Just a reminder: ALL radiators DO wear out. Eventually. Since this LR3 is now 17 years old, it’s not surprising that this would crop up. You paid $1K for it 3 years ago - you’re way ahead of the game for a nice driving vehicle that brings you a lot of fun. I don’t think of $1.6K as exceeding the $1K purchase price. I think of $1.6K as equivalent to about two monthly loan payments on a vehicle of this caliber. After 3 years of motoring and 30K miles added on a vehicle that has 262K on the clock now, this is NOT a disappointment. It’s normal. The lesson, if there is one, is that if you drive a high mileage and/or older vehicle, you have to budget for these incidents. They’re bound to happen an any vehicle with a similar history. You’ll need an emergency fund for such things.
I had my timing belt done recently and same thing all those rad hoses were junk. Not bad i guess they lasted 18 years.
