"Everytime somebody says 'you can't do that', that's exactly where you should go". Bravo! This is what Doctor Who has been doing for 60 years and there is no reason to slow down now. 'Canon worship' has driven Star Wars, Star Trek, MCU, etc. into the ground and resulted in a lot of universe-building fan service dreck across these franchises.
@@mjm3091 yeah I mean that too. I don’t think her/his subconscious wanted 10s face back. I think a villain has toyed with this regeneration, maybe that why her/his clothes changed when they never did before.
For me the main reason they return is that Doctor and Donna never had a proper goodbye. All previous companions in New Who had it - yes, tearful heartbreaking (like all companions in Moffat era), but they all said goodbye to their Doctor. But Donna never did... And its so unfair! And also that Donna lost her memory of their adventures- it should be there! And that final scene that Russell talks about (nothing thats ever been in whole tv series...). But that's what made her ending so tragic and beautiful. It was a good ending for a character to leave you heart broken. They didn't have to bring her back to make a new ending, but I'll save my judgment until the end of special 3.

It felt like the show I loved was back, and it made me even more excited to see Ncuti. You are going to have people cry woke just because of Rose being a character at all in it, and adressing anything to do with current day. So you should not write around those people to stop them from getting mad. There was just one line that made me raise my eyebrow, something I wouldn't have done if RTD hadn't said in some interview. That he is of course well aware and thrilled by the fact that the show has a dedicated adult fanbase. But Doctor Who must be written for children in mind first and then you can add elements to where an adult watching will understand it on a different level than a child. A sentiment I agree with. Which is why I think this one comment before Donna and Rose let go of the metacrisis energy was strange. When she says that it's too bad that he is no longer a woman because as a man he can no longer understand that they could just let it go. The Doctor and Donna relationship contains a lot of ribbing and making fun at the others expense and whenever we saw that on display it worked perfectly. It's the sort of sibling rivalry thing that a lot of people can relate to. With the mind set "we can make fun of each other but I will have your back if someone else comes after you." Being and adult, I understand that the line about letting go is a jab at the anti-woke people who can't stand a joke being made at their expense. What I don't think it took into account is you are going to have young boys who are watching the show, maybe some who started with 13 and is their Doctor now getting used to a new one. But I'm also sure it will bring in a new young audience because it's now easier for people to watch through Disney Plus. What you have just told those young boys who doesn't have the context or any ill will, is that they are lesser.

We were Doctor Who fans before you were born I imagine so yes we've been paying attention to the show. Yes it was a lot of 'woke' ideology crammed into a short running time but if the audience they seek are those who just want their entertainment full of lecturing about the way people should think on political and ideological matters that's fair enough. The rest of the viewership (us mean old Davros loving 'bigots') will let them get on with it and just go watch something else. It's a good way to get it cancelled again as the production cost won't justify the shrinking audience.
I hate forced woke stuff in media but star beast to me seemed natural and not forced. It didn’t feel cheap or pandering. The whole thing with “binary” was great. I know it wasn’t planned since journeys end and Doctor Donna saying “binary” over and over, but it felt like it was. It felt meaningful and relevant. It was woke, but it wasn’t nasty woke. I think RTD does progressivism correctly. Only thing I hated was the comedy of Doctor-Donna’s first concern was about giving away her lottery money, while the ship was tearing apart London and doubtlessly killing people. Also her mother, husband and daughter were all on the ground near the ship and donna wastes time ranting about something she always knew. It’s not like the lottery was a lost memory she just regained, also doctor- donna should have cared about money much less than normal Donna. She rediscovered her memories of time and space, her time lord intelligence and knew she had minutes to live, and she spends time ranting about her decision. Why would a time lord consciousness, specifically the doctor’s, make her less generous than the fully human donna. Copyright donna noble.
