Peter pull Mary's skin really tight before putting in the Huber needle in next time you have to access Mary's port. I too have a power port in the same place Mary does. By pulling the skin tight it will make placing the needle into her chest less painful and even painless trust me it works!

Every day I come home from work and watch your videos. Because I just found you, I'm starting from the beginning. Now I'm here. :) I am a head start Advocate and I love watching you guys. I enjoy the innocence of your marriage, the love and faith you share. May God continue to watch over you. And keep my family in prayers please. We suffered a huge loss in September, the death of my only parent, my dad and our main source of income as his caregiver. I know God has a plan and my daddy is no longer suffering.
I hope you read this story... MANY years ago when I was a teen, my dad had a Dachshund every night when he came home from work the dog would get up in the chair a nuzzle in his ear and tell him what went on all day while he was at work... He said she was telling him secrets.... So through out the many years when one of our many dogs would sniff in out ears we would say that they where telling us secrets... When your mom's dog was sniffing your ear it brought back that memory and I just wanted to share it with you....

+123dietdrpepper there are dominant genes which would mean only one parent would be needed to pass on an illness and there are recessive genes where it takes two parents, but not all the kids in the family would get sick. In CF there chances are that one in four kids will get CF, two kids would carry the gene and one kid who doesn't carry the gene at all.
It's hurting more because you don't have scar tissue built up over the new site yet like there was over your old one. But YES definitely get the Emla (lidocaine/prilocaine) cream it's a freaking life saver. I already have some stocked up for when my port gets replaced which will hopefully happen soon cause I am sooooooo dehydrated. Love you guys, I'm so happy you were able to spend time as a family at home for Christmas and I always love when your family visits it makes me so happy cause now that I live 8 hours away from most of my family I know how hard it is. I totally understand how Peter felt. I did wound care for my husband (3rd burners over 34% of his body). Learning each new dressing change, new equipment, new medication... the learning curve is just stressful, when trying not to cause additional pain/discomfort. Our doctors always reminded me it a marathon not a sprint. Keeping you all in my prayers. Thanks for sharing

Hi Mary and Peter, my port is in the same place and it took many months for the tissue to settle down with pain, underneath the stitches will probably be swollen.It took me a few months try my yoga too, so go with what feels ok.Also having the needle in constantly and many changes i understand this is very tender.You both will be feeling confident and comfortable soon.Bless you both.

Peter & Mary...re: the puzzle...I had a chiropractor who had jigsaw puzzles in his waiting room for his patients to work on while waiting & when each puzzle was finished he'd put a backing on it & frame it & hang them on his wall...it would be a really cool way to display them & be able to do a new one each year!!
