  • How can we solve the Tragedy of the Commons? Elinor Ostrom has an answer!
This is an educational video about the commons scholarship pioneered by Elinor Ostrom, which provided a challenging alternative to Hardin's theory of the Tragedy of the Commons. "Commons" is a term used in resource economics to describe types of goods that can be accessed by anyone but their use by one party limits their availability to others. Examples of common-pool resources include pasture lands, freshwater, fisheries, forests, etc.
Through her research with different communities across the world, Elinor Ostrom showed that it is possible for local communities to sustainably manage their common resources without any external intervention like state control or privatization.

This video won the runners-up prize in the Commons Video Contest, held as part of the 1st Virtual Conference organized by the International Association for the Study of the Commons between November 12-30, 2018: iasc-commons.org/blog/2018/12...

Great quick breakdown of Ostrom's principles! It was just the refresher I needed to help me write an essay for class.

Hello! Great video!! and I subscribed as well!😊 I have a question, you mentioned that privatization is not the only answer based on ostrom, why is this? What were the effects of privatization for ostrom that didnt led to the success of the commons? Thank you..

What Ostrom said , Gandhi said a century ago.. The GRAM SWARAJ , now when I look back The man was so ahead of his time.. he single handed gave solutions to most of problems today we have..

Ostrom wrote complicated book, not verbally said only. Gandhi cannot write. He is third rate scholar

Gandhi was a creep, and this idea is very old. It does old as human life and older. No one said it was olstrom's original idea. It's just that she fleshed it out and wrote a book about it.
