Evergreen Polar Plunge 2011

With temperatures barely above zero on New Years morning 2011, over a hundred devoted plungers left their warm beds to jump into a small hole in an otherwise frozen Evergreen Lake. Call them crazy, or call them generous. The money they raised went to Drive Smart, and our local Evergreen Rec Special Needs Program - AKA "Maren's Kids." What a selfless way to start the new year! Great job plungers!!

my state's about to do this and i need some awnsers :)
whouldnt the water be warmer if its still liquid? (aka above 32 F?)
are the pools normally about 4-6 ft deep (is 5 ft 3 O~o)
and is it possible to be so un prepared that you get knocked out by the water?
