I want to go on biblical archeological adventures with Dr. Scott! I'm over 50, and also bald, so qualified. 😆 I've been to Israel twice with groups of fellow veterans with PTSD. The excitement and joy expressed here is familiar to me as Israel confirms everything we've been taught since Sunday school. The Lord is real, and he loves us.

Have I told you guys lately how much I love Alissa? God richly bless this servant of Christ! Brilliant, lovely guest! She gets the best people and has the best discussions. Bring your note book, lol. One of my favorite shows on utube. Three words on Alissa Childers: intelligence, elegance, and class! She's our Deborah for modern day America. Who better to bring God's people to the online world? The names of God on the led tablet and the time period may be spot on since it was at this time that Moses asked what should he tell people His name is; God replied “I AM WHO I AM” (El, [the God]) . God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: YHWH, [the God ]of your ancestors,[ the God ]of Abraham, [the God ]of Isaac, and [the God ]of Jacob-has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.

W.F. Albright is considered to be the greatest Bible archaeologist of the 20th century. He wrote:
"There can be no doubt that archaeology has confirmed the substantial historicity of the Old Testament tradition." (Albright, Archaeology and Religion of Israel, p. 176).
Even liberal sources admit to the general historical reliability of the Old Testament. Jeffrey Sheller writes:
"In extraordinary ways, modern archaeology has affirmed the historical core of the Old Testament--corroborating key portions of the stories of Israel's patriarchs, the Exodus, the Davidic monarchy, and the life and times of Jesus." (Sheller, Is the Bible True? p. 52).
When writing about the Old Testament, William Green declares:
"It may safely be said that no other work of antiquity has ever been so accurately transmitted." (General Introduction to the Old Testament, p. 21).
    The archaeologist, Nelson Glueck writes:
"It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a single biblical reference. Scores of archaeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible." (Glueck, Rivers in the Desert, p. 31).

Psalm 40, love this psalm, so many hidden treasures, like verse7.
    1
Psalm 40 For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.
    1
I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry.
    2
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
    3
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
    4
Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. [1]
    5
Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you; were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.
    6
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced [2] [3] ; burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
    7
Then I said, "Here I am, I have come-- it is written about me in the scroll. [4]
    8
I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
    9
I proclaim righteousness in the great assembly; I do not seal my lips, as you know, O LORD.
    10
I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and salvation. I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.
    11
Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me.
    12
For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.
    13
Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me.
    14
May all who seek to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.
    15
May those who say to me, "Aha! Aha!" be appalled at their own shame.
    16
But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say, "The LORD be exalted!"
    17
Yet I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.

I will be interested to see the peer reviewed paper when published. I am not an expert but scanning the press on this find (eg the newspaper Times of Israel) would suggest at least two possible areas of criticism (which I assume a peer reviewer would dig into): 1) the dating (how to know it is 11th C BCE or whatever) - they were getting this from an excavation dump analysis using “wet sifting” not a stratified site; 2) how they did the scans to see “inside” the metal to get the text. I would look forward to hearing what the key peer reviewed points were and how Dr Stripling has handled them, even if it does get into the technical weeds a bit. So Alisa, if you follow up on this in say 6-9 months to see how the peer review and other feedback went - and if this indeed upsets the prior views in academia on this time period in Israel’s history. I will definitely watch that follow up. Interesting!

I always find the secularist perspective on the Bible and archaeology to be very curious. On any particular detail (even the most mundane ones, like the name of a town or a ruler) they usually treat the text of Scripture as unreliable UNLESS they find an archaeological find that supports that detail. But even if they don't think the text is inerrant and inspired, why don't they INSTEAD give the text the benefit of the doubt, since we are 2,000 years removed from the events recorded? Maybe they should have a little bit of humility, and just assume that the text is reliable, but they just haven't yet discovered an archaeological find to corroborate it?

Dear ALISA, IF U WANT TO KNOW many more references about Jesus outside the Bible , go to the early church fathers , of the Catholic and Orthodox , THERE ARE MANY MORE THEN 6 6 or 7, The letters of St Ignatius , martyred around 107 AD, SAINT POLYCORP MATTERED IN 154 OR 7, both knew Peter who was before he want to MATTERED ROME WAS Bishop of Antioch and appointed St. Ignatius in his place to care for the flock just before heading to Rome, and Polykarp wasn't a deciple of St, John and there are many more , Avery careful reading of Eusebius "The History OF The Church, Penguin Classics , who had access to many documents we no longer have, and many more we since his time do have , which makes him a reliable source , if u study not just read, you will find this history very Catholic.ETC. I WAS ONCE AN EVANGELICAL MYSELF , BUT READING THIS BOOK STUDYING IT , began to show me that in fact there was a different Church THEN the one I was at that time in....they had bishops priests eucharists etc etc, I too studied apologetics since that was an excellent tool to not only answer questions for others but for myself ....it took me a few years to fight my own pre conceived protestant ideas...to see to all and much prayer but in the end like so many others Scott Hahn etc, as St John Henry Newman put it ," to go deep into history is to become Catholic ''' , there are a 3 vol set of Catholic apologetics entitled RADIO REPLIES, compiled bye 2 priest where in anyone could call that show and challenge them on any question or claims, they are brief answers, but I found a ton of names in info which helped to go deeper by of course looking up those references they gave and so on and on I want despite the disturbance and prejudice I had to fight in me so I could fight past myself to get to the bottom of all the challenges I kept bumping into....Not an easy thing when ones paradime was being demolished at least in part, I did have a very negative view of the Catholic Church at this time , since I thought I knew all about it having grown up in Catholic schools before Vat 2 , but I WAS A CHILD and they simply taught me the faith, not where we got it from or history , pr say, later had I stayed then I would have gotten all that , anyway I wish u a good journey Stephen

If you find a tomb with the inscription: Jesus son of Joseph James brother... Then, is your faith shaken? Not mine!!! That's why I think it's absurd to believe that mortuary findings with names have per se any significance. It's common sense that they have almost negligible consistency.

islam is the very antithesis of the Christian Faith, and even it authenticates Jesus, though islam came along centuries after Jesus was gone. The qur’an, if you can imagine, has a whole book on Mary, mother of Jesus! Not only does it talk about Jesus, but it proclaims that Jesus was the only Man ever to walk on earth, who never sinned! He is even considered one of, if not the greatest profit, second to more-ham-I’d.

"Judge not by appearance but judge by righteous judgment." Jesus Christ
What happens in the world is not what is important. "They are not of the world as I am not of the world."
"The kingdom of heaven is within you." This is the realm that holds the truth of who we are and why we are here.
"History does not hold the truth of our purpose any more than the present physical moment does.
We know truth through prayer, not the physical senses. Use the moment to connect with truth through prayer.
Love takes us home, not history.

Prayer alone doesn't give us truth. Mormons and Muslims pray yet miss the truth.
God designed us with the physical senses to observe what He has done in creation.
He tells us to look to the heavens to see His glory (Psa 19).
He gives us signs and the resurrection to give us an evidence based faith.
Another interesting thought is that scripture shows us that Jesus (God) is the Λόγος (logos) which is translated to word, logic and reason.
Since we are created in His imagine, it seems God has created us with the capacity to use logic and reason to realize His existence and discern His nature.

@@TheGuy.. You will keep believing that your salvation is in this world until you realize this world is not what is real: the kingdom of heaven is and it's within you as spirit, not as a body. It's your choice to see who you are by where you came from. To know yourself as spirit, you must be born differently
.Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

Nope, where did you get that idea? I never said or implied theat. My salvation is rooted in the grace of God through faith.
So when you say that "this world is not what is real", you think God created an illusion?
You think Jesus came into the illusion and put on illusion, that the crucifixion was an illusion and that the empty tomb was an illusion? None of that was real?
      What church do you attend?

@@TheGuy.. Does it take faith to see and hear in this world? Is that what this means,:"Those who have ears, let them hear?"
So it would take eyes and ears to know God's truth and so prayer is not necessary to know what God wants you to do, just look at the world and the truth will be there.
So the Holy Spirit would not be necessary, Just open your eyes?
This world has beauty in it, but that beauty is in your mind because it reminds you of God, not in the separate individual cells and molecules. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Which eye?
Jesus showed us through the resurrection that death is not real, though it sure appears to be if we think we are bodies, not eternal spirit. Death still has a sting if you think you are a body.

@@robertdouglas8895 I see you couldn't answer my questions but I'll answer yours anyway.
"Those who have ears, let them hear" is an expression meaning "those who can reason, let them perceive.". But notice that no matter the wording, prayer is not being used, so truth can be arrived at using the reasoning capacity and the physical senses that God has given us.
But then you said, "so prayer IS NOT NECESSARY to know what God wants you to do, just look at the world and the truth will be there.".
But that contradicts what you said earlier in your OP when you said, "We know truth through prayer, not the physical senses.". Huh? I can't figure you out.
Who said the Holy spirit is not necessary? Certainly wasn't me. The Holy Spirit Guides us from embracing lies...convicts us when we err. But even those without the Holy Spirit (the lost) can know truth. Paul declares so in Rom 1:20-21.
You said and asked, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Which eye?". Again, this is a figurative expression meaning, "Beauty is in the PERCEPTION of the beholder. So asking "which eye" means you don't understand figurative language, which is also loaded in scripture.
You said, "Jesus showed us through the resurrection that death is not real, though it sure appears to be if we think we are bodies, not eternal spirit. Death still has a sting if you think you are a body."
Why did you tell me that?? You think that I don't know that? I am body, soul and spirit and God will save all 3 (1 Thes 5:23, 1 Cor 5:52, James 5:20, Philemon 1:25, 2 Tim 4:22, 1 Cor 6:20).
I just added a little insight to your original post and you are coming at me with all of this, why? Are you just looking to someone to preach to?
