Spectromagic, Illuminations, a parade in every park, and paper fast passes…ahh good times.
Dude. Those paper fast passes were SURE to get lost!
@@JustInDisney Nah, they easily fit in wallet or lanyard key card holders (in the pre magic band times, you got a “key to the world” card). The BEST part about the paper FP’s: you could give them away if you didn’t end up using them and the receiver of the tickets could use them!
@@toddw8396but wut if u accidentally dropped one? They wouldn’t have been easy to pick up…
@@JustInDisney it’s a great big world of what if
I can’t even imagine being in a Disney park on September 11th, 2001. I never really thought about how chaotic that must’ve been. Hugs to all!
It sure does seem like Disney parks have lost a lot over the years. Those all look like really fun things…Not much left anymore just higher prices
Heading back out to Disney World soon and wanted to see what it was like the first I went… in September 2001. I was 3 at the time so I don’t remember much but according to my dad we were there on the 11th.
According to him, the cast members seemed uneasy (obviously) but didn’t say a word inside the parks - supposedly to keep the illusion of being the “Happiest Place on Earth.” It wasn’t until we had left the strangely empty Animal Kingdom park that a security guard mentioned that something bad had happened - but didn’t say what. We go to lunch and my parents are very confused about why an “action movie” was playing on the TV. Then they realized.
All that magic has almost disappeared with the dollar grabs.
9:37 These pins still work, but the only places I noticed that were still working were:
El Río Del Tiempo / Grand Fiesta Tour @ EPCOT towards the end, in the large fireworks room (1/19 confirmation)
Pirates of the Carribean @ MK, right before the drop off and inappropriately throughout the cannon scene. (It’s a very dark ride, and you’re sharing a boat with others. Had to cover it up, to avoid distracting from the moment) (1/19 confirmation)
Haunted Mansion @ MK - At the very end, all LEDs blink in unison, simulating a heart beat. (1/19 added)
Dinosaur @ AK after you return back to the present. (1/19 added)
Not bad for a forgotten 20yo feature.
Rides previously known to go off, but did not ride:
Tower of Terror @ MGM/DHS
Maelstrom @ EPCOT was also known to set it off, but no longer works with the new Frozen ride.
Spectromagic parade @ MK has been disassembled and is no more.
Did not notice it during:
Small World @ MK (1/17 Update - Batteries were too low to determine)(1/19 Update - I did not notice it go off at all, but at the very last scene, where all the nations are together in a giant blue unity room, I noticed a blue LED fade off. I could not tell if it had been doing this throughout with just that one color, or if I had accidentally triggered it myself)
Space Mountain @ MK (1/19 Update - finally rode it. I was jerked around so much that it was lighting up throughout the ride, but whenever I checked, it lit up in the same fashion as if you had pressed the button yourself, so I could not confirm)
Peter Pan's Flight @ MK - (supposedly only lights up the white bulb, so even though I was holding my bag, I might've not noticed whether it did anything or not) (1/17 Update - Batteries were too low to determine) (1/19 Update - Ride was closed for refurbishment)
I use to work at EPCOT and when they put the sign over spaceship earth we use to call it the 12 million dollar lighting rod.
Thank you great show...I love 💕 these.. it brings back so many memories.. it also makes me sad and angy..
The 50th The greatest irredesent paint and light celebration on earth is the most un-disney celebration..
💯 Years of magic.. there was shows everywhere.. parades in every park....it was magic everywhere for every one.. think about if you are 7 or younger what there for the 50th.. show they like? ( As my wife said show were best place to take kid before the melt down) Meet and great? From a distance or have the characters digital placed in same photo (new photo pass option).. don't get me wrong I really love Disney, I going in December..
Work like a Capt, party like a pirate 🏴☠️🦜🦜🏴☠️...
My family typically went during Xmas/New Years. Every year it was busier and busier. In 2001, only a little over 3 months had past, and it was still on everyone’s minds, even if we weren’t directly effected. We had considered canceling the trip, but went anyway. Flying to a great symbol of American culture during the most important Christian holiday made WDW a big Target in our minds.
To our surprise, it was busier than it had ever been up to that point. While yes, off peak was essentially a ghost town, with everything literally a walk on, including E Ticket attractions, peak season still remained peak. May 2005 we owned the parks. Dec 2005, it was even busier than 2001, what I had previously believed was busier than ever before.
I truly love this series! I pray they create a Playlist starting with 1971 on, and add to it every year! Thank you for doing this!
There’s a playlist of all the Timekeeping videos on the channel
@@Alirien I know they do, but it's in reverse chronological order, so you have to watch it backwards with the last video as 1971.
@@jrios29 Ah, okay, I hadn’t noticed that 😅
ah, back when resorts had themes and not something you would find on the interstate.
I was there about 2 weeks or more after 9/11. The park was empty until president Bush said..get down to Disney world in Florida. The next day the park was packed to the max.
Ah 20 years later... DONT GO ANYWHERE EVER
Darn COVID! Missing so much.
Used to be so much to do and see.. 😢
In March 2009 my wife at the time, the two step-kids and myself were asked at the beginning of the day while waiting first in line for a meet and greet with safari Mickey & Minni if we would like to be in the parade. We the Del Guidice Family from Timmins, Ontario, Canada rode on the "Hippo" float
Year my dad died and we went to WDW for Christmas. Rough year for me.
Great series - are the episodes organized in a sub channel? Would love to see them listed together
They’re in a playlist
September 11th. I thought so.
If there's one thing this series made me feel it's that anything that happened between 1955 and 1971 is akin to pre-history 😂
