When The Summer Finally Comes To The Arctic We Tend To Forgive The Winter

  • Enjoy this non-edited clip that I shot last night to celebrate the summer colours in North Iceland. We face the north in the beginning with the hot water pipelines that go all the way to Akureyri in the foreground but it's the capital of North Iceland (population 20.000)
    Some of the hot water wells for the town are around there but we mostly see typical Icelandic farmhouses in this excellent agriculture region where we have mostly dairy farms. As I start panning we come across a large and wide house, obviously not a farmhouse, and thats where social activities have taken place for decades, but now, it's the official home of the local theatre.

    freyvangur.wor...
    Those little forestry projects are common around here and we see them in all shapes and sizes and the road to south where the video ands leads us all he way to toad F821 (the highlands) but it's also possible to drive to the innermost fart of the valley and drive back at the other side of the river (Eyjafjarðará) It's a highly recommended route that includes a very special museum and the Christmas House where we celebrate Christmas every day of the year.

    It is so great to see a green Iceland. All the volcanos are exciting and I learn from those videos. But, green fields, green trees, farms, is a wonderful break from volcanos and fields of lava. Thank you. I know you have a huge video library of all Iceland, it's just a nice break from the current events.

I was beginning to think that all of Iceland was just black, orange/red or other mixes of all those colours! LOL. Iceland is SO much more, for sure. Good evening Gylfi,
    Only one week after that summer started here in the Netherlands. The main difference is probably temperature; we got a few days of about 30°C.
    What a difference a bit of warmth and sunshine makes. Iceland looks more like greenland 😅 now.
    Enjoy it to the fullest because it lasts so short.
    Stay safe.

    Gylfi, I said this before - on our tour of Iceland it was Akureyri, lost at the extreme end of Europe, that impressed us so much. We stayed in a B&B next to one of those big water pipelines. Anyone who ever visits this town should see the marvelous northernmost botanical garden.

    Interesting to see that they try to grow forests now. That could change the look of the landscape a lot over time.

    • @Varasalvi2
      @Varasalvi2 3 месяца назад +1

      There are little pockets of forests all over farmlands for the simple reason that the government pays farmers to do so. I'm of two minds about it. On one hand it's good for the planet, on the other the farmers usually plant trees in a grid-like pattern on a square field, so we end up with a very artificial looking "forest".
      Edit: Mind you the trees in this video are not examples of when it looks bad. These patches of trees look quite nice.

    • @petebeatminister
      @petebeatminister 3 месяца назад +1

      @@Varasalvi2 Well, its difficult to make a man made forest look natural. Its much more work, so it makes it more expensive.
      Even here in Germany most forests look artificial - because they are. Here its done to maximise profits from the wood harvest. Which now brings serious problems, caused by changing climate. Its now officvially recommended to plant mixed forests and different tree species. But with trees it takes a long time before you see the effects.
