Awesome little video, I was looking at how to remove the door panel, very nicely done. The problem with your latch was the little black clip attached to the wire which activates the mechanical latch, the little one under the door handle. It was set to far.
Just came across your page and saw this video, you and I have had the same problem and we did the same thing, but I didn't take my door apart to check the handle mechanism and it works as it always did when the door was unlocked and once open from the inside. I could open the door just like you are in this video, but you didn't show you locking and unlocking the door and then trying to open it again, that is where my problem and I am guessing your problem is as well. Once the door is opened from the inside the outside door handle works fine, lock it and it won't work. Mind you this isn't always the case sometimes it does work, sometimes I think it is the electronic part of the mechanism that doesn't work Anyway thank you for sharing I was wondering how to take off the door panel to check or change the door lock module.
Hey! Locking and unlocking didn't have any affect on the door opening. But, I did have issues with the lock actuator a while back. That is why I have the aftermarket one in now. It sounds like it would be worth it for you to check out the lock actuator and the mechanisms. Good luck!!
@@MaqsVids Thank you for sharing because like I said this video did help me to understand how to take the whole thing apart. I didn't know how to take it apart until your video. I ordered a new lock actuator or module from Amazon and was able to change it without any real issue, though the window mechanism is a little messed up and needs to be change as well, so I just ordered a new one and will change it sometime in the few days when it comes in. Thank you for sharing your video it truly helped me to do what I needed to do for my own MK4....
@@rama20066 Hi Ramiro, I did. In the end it was the locking module that needed to be changed. Ordered one from Amazon I think, but there are few places to find them cheap and change it and now it is all good. you should know that it was kind of tricky to change it out though. For one thing the whole window assembly must come out to get to the locking module, but it was easy enough, you can watch it on youtube. Second there is a little set screw in the door jam that you have to loosen to pull out the door handle, just don't take the screw out its hard to put back unless you take the whole thing out. But once done you reverse the process to put it all back together again....Good luck.
@@vincent7248 You are spot on, Vincent. His problem is the cable from the door handle is a little slack so that when the handle is pulled the connected door lock lever does not move through its entire range of movement and hence door latch does not unlatch.
I have had the same problem for a while now, I determined that my cause was the wire connected to the door handle the grooves get worn out and wont stay so it falls out of place and doesnt catch.
have same car but with opposite problem..... all door would lock with remote except one door front passenger side.... the locking lever that u push down to lock is missing from the panel
What a MAMMOTH JOB ;-( !! And a brilliant video! Thanx for sharing this ☺️!!! ( Your right , not fun or a big joy but.....nice not to have to open "English" and crawl over the seat everytime! Righteous !!! Peace !
So the thing what you use the T20 to screw loose the lock cylinder did fall down for me… don’t know what it looks like and can’t find it. Help me out plz? What does it called and what does that part look like?
have an issue and maybe you know how to solve it, it is 2001 mk4 TDI doors would unlock using a fob but won't lock using a fob. they would lock using a fob, only if I unlock them and lock within a second, same situation happens inside the car with 2 buttons near the inside door handle. any ideas, or suggestions?
Great Fix !! I have a Golf Mk 4 - 2001 Year My door failed a few days ago and I cant lock any of the doors with auto lock fob The Key for the drivers door got stuck, and I couldn't get it out then when I did just spins around I have to climb over the passenger seat to lock the drivers door The Boot just wont lock Any ideas?
you dont have to remove the inner metal at first , only screw out the t 20 torx screw at the side and important must pull out the handle and screw at same time never drop the half force of the handle and be able to se the probllem no problem continue inside :) this video is not 100 procent correct unfortunately, , to remove cylinder, then take of hatch and lift the handle of car,, :)
Hi! Thanks for the comment. But, I don't fully understand what you mean. I had to remove the entire module to troubleshoot my problem. I was prepared to replace the entire module.
You wander into problems just like a normal mortal, no jargon or expertise, just logic and curiosity. Refreshing, entertaining, inspiring. Thank you.

I've got the exact same problem in my Mk4. Thanks a bunch
Good clear angles of view of what is going on inside the door!
Thanks for the tips, helped with my Golf door latch.
Awesome! You are very welcome.

I'm getting caught up on comments. Did you ever find it?

I used to hit the door with the bottom of a closed hand and the door will open.

Ouch! I have never dealt with that. But, I would start with the lock cylinder and work your way back to see what you find. Good luck!
