The fact that this wonderful "true country" group with its amazingly talented lead singer, Rhiannon Giddens, is not a household word yet is astonishing..
Lawrence E. Alba. .......Their only problem may be that they don't fit anyone's stereotype....but they are a wonderful group and they are maybe a real contribution.
She trained originally in opera and developed her enormous range. In an interview she said her opera training is the reason she can articulate lyrics so quickly because in Italian opera especially, you have to be able to sing fast
Not often one gets fabulous musical art and some historical knowledge at the same time. I LOVE this group-and Giddens is astonishingly talented (and brilliant)
Talent to burn! These folk along with Pokey LaFarge, just shows what an amazing pool of talent US has......and not necessarily knowing about them! Great post!
Thx 4 posting this. I've always wanted 2 hear this w fiddles. Luv the original, but always wanted a longer version- a stanza of fiddle b4 the "we got married..." repeat would have been awesome.
There are amazing artists who are not household names like Lindi Ortega and Rhiannon Giddens. Both are True Country and True Old Time Music. In my place they are household names!

She's a Dusey!
Have you heard Nancy Sinatras?
I've been watching videos with Rhiannon Giddens for hours now and still have a hard time believing how LOW she can go with her singing! Bravo!

I love their stuff but wish they'd take on a few more of these old school covers to which they add their own flare to so well
Great rendition! Amazing!

Giddens is sawing the fuck out of that fiddle.
Interesting version, but the vocals?! No Johnny and June there, that's for sure.
lee hazelwood and nancy sinatra done it first
Good, but with Justin they were great. Meh.
Am I the only person here because of an article in "Smithsonian"?
DralionProductions I’ve been meandering down this Rhiannon Giddens worm hole for the past week and have yet to be disappointed
Please don't ever sing that version again. Terrible.
