The intro glitched during editing for this one (What's with intros breaking for Nimbatus?!) So this time around I just wanted to put this out as I have loads of other video footage I'm working with right now (Lots of games, lots of footage!) Enjoy, all! ^_^ As some of you have said - Adding a double hinge with one at the front and one at the back would have solved the flipping issue with some of the body parts , and the final body segment needs to have the hinge placed so it is not behind its center of mass- Where were you guys when I was building this thing at 5am!?
@Lathland - The problem is that you're dragging your sub parts by their center of mass. You should drag them from the front.. not the center. This is why your final sub part is spinning. There's nothing being drug behind it to keep it straight.
I'd suggest you bring the hinges away from the center of each segment. Being the center of mass for that segment, it'll let the segments freely swivel. So put it at the ends of the segments so you get more of a hinge than a swivel, and going forward in a straight line will actually realign the segments to the head.
actually nvm, I commented before the end of the video. That last one will be even more prone to flipping a segment because the joints are behind the center of mass now instead of in front...
I was getting annoyed by this the whole time, having one hinge in the center connected to the forward and backward segments made it so unstable. Needs 2 hinges front in front, back in back.
Lathrix a simple solution to the drones hinges going crazy would have been to make a solid block then attach the hinge then put a solid block so the hinge wasnt connecting to stuff so far away.
Hey, Lath. Here's what you need to do. Have a directional sensor on each segment, to keep the segment from rotating. Then have six directional sensors pointing out hexagonally for controlling your thrust. And finally put each segment on a free hinge so it can rotate freely to stay upright as your head digs around. Make the segments as circular as you can so they won't catch on corners with their corners.
I would do two atachments, one in the front that goes to the back from the front craft and one at the back that goes to the front of the back craft, so that the different parts stay in the same direction and don‘t dangle so much. I would also turn the thrusters in the back to face a bit backward, so that they push a littelbit more forward in the sharpe corners.
Physics engines tend to have issues with low-mass bodies chained together, the forces become erratic. Instead of attaching hinges to hinges, you could attach a heavy armour block to a hinge, then attach a hinge to the armour and chain those in sequence. So the armour blocks sit in the middle space between hinges. Then only build off the armour blocks so that the thruster forces are transferred to the larger mass. That would also mean that the hinges are in a better place for each segment and segments won't randomly flip.
Why not place drills on the other part as well wouldn't that fix alot of the issues concerning the space in the tunnels and increase how much you terrain you dig?
I don't comment on videos much, but I have to say I really enjoy this drone concept. Lathrixian engineering at it's finest, and I mean that in the most complimentary way. I'm sure I don't speak for everyone, but I would greatly enjoy seeing more of this specific drone, how it evolves into a true plant-wrecking monstrosity: Weapons, shielded segments, the works. My only regret is a lack of a decent name suggestion... I had a quick look at Nurgle lore, but "Slime Hound" just seemed so ill-fitting. Perhaps "Mortarion"?
I think the back section of your worm bot flips over because there is nothing behind to stop him rotating, the midle ones dont rotate because they are framed with the others...
to stop the last section flipping out, make it something similar to your stabilized drones, it will stop it from turning around, and could enable you to have rear facing weapons in case any enemies follow you down the hole.
Make it like a train with two hinges instead of having a single common hinge for the forward and aft 'rope.' That might deal with the internal flipping issues without so many sensors.
lathrix. in order so you can not only allow the little segments to be bigger but also you could center the module with sensors so you can mine without a care in the world.
Have you thought of using two hinges per body segment? and no hinge on the tail to keep it from rotating and just stay lateral in relation to the body segment before it? Like... (h)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---(t) where h is the head, b is the body, t is the tail, and the * is each hinge
I think the reason why you had no issue going vertical is because the thrusters increased how much power they were giving, as long as you didn't go over the speed limit they could go up to max thrust. If that makes any sense to anyone but me :/
if you don't mind the extra mass, put drills on the sides of the tail? Also maybe attach each sensor to 1-2 engines, so that it can at least align itself with the terrain/craft instead of moving at an angle, because there are no turning thrusters on it. (and/or what others have said, pull in front of the center of mass, not the center of mass/behind it, pretty sure that's why the last one flipped, because you were literally pulling its behind.
Not sure if you've already done anything to this robot, but attaching the hinges at the front and back of each body part instead of in the middle would prevent them from spinning entirely.
Try using two sensor (or possibly four for coverage) per carriage side with two independent thrusters. Make one long range and the other short, so you have two speeds of 'reaction movement'. Should make the thing a lot less jerky. And miltarise it please next episode. I wanna see it in combat!
you should have connected the different modules via the closes block to the rotating anchor, not by its own anchor, it will solve a lot of the problems you are having, for instance that back segment
im assuming the reason some sensors go under and some above is simply the way the game loads in the objects so if it loads the engine first the laser will go above it or if it loads laser first the engines are rendered ontop of it. further proof of this is the last drive of your machine where you brought this up the last segment had a laser go above two engines then below the third.
You should make a drone that can automatically beat any level. Like the only part of it that is controllable is the motherdrone that has all the power, but not many weapons, and release automatic battle drones to clear the surface, and diggers to kill the core hives.
A few quick sugestions. I think it would get even more stable, iff al segments except the last one had their own forwardthrust. Aditional parts will weight down the segments so in order to not have them crash the sides constantly, extend the sensors range by a little bit. This one is on the theorethic side because i dont play the game itselfe and therefor dont know if the controls can be sett seperatly. Build the segments round'ish, and give them the sensors and controlthrusters (or motorized hinge) to alwhys face the segment ahead of them. You are doing fine, and it's a lott of funn to watch. ^^
To stop part rotatios you could just make segments a bit longer and insteed of using single connector per segment you could use 2. One on front of segment to connect it to previous segment/core and one on the back to connect it to next segment.
If you try something like that again try use the logic splitters on body parts then you can just copy and paste the body parts and you won't have to use different letters and numbers for each piece also use two joints or have the joint at the front of the body
theres a couple of things you could of done differently, the segments could of had two hinges to prevent spining, though this wouldnt work at the end and you might want it to be more bottom heavy to fix that. then instead of reducing speed, you could of instead put thrusters on the segments to kinda make them "keep up" so they dont stretch and fling back into place. personally i would of tried a more rigid approach like making all the hinges motorized so the whole thing bends as far as a "U" allowing it to still turn and bend but not so much it breaks it. still turned out not bad though!
I dunno if you fixed your issues in a further build or not, but it seems to me that you need the sensors on your mini-sections to be nearly as large as the tunnel you're creating. This will stop them from deviating close to the edges and will keep them in center of the tunnel.

Lathland when your at a planet press c on your keyboard to activate tiny drones from the drone brain
Lathland you have been uploading A lot lately
Lathland okay im enjoyng already
lath please make a reaper from mass effect in nimbatus
I just love how you regard that one rotated block with "How dare you". casually interrupting your outro in the process
and then just sounds like he is laughing on the inside..
A lot
in a way
Using 2 hinges per segment, one at each end, would probably help keep them from spinning around.
Very good suggestion, will try it out! ^^

NeoAcario *dragged
That and the rest had 2 segments to bump into preventing spin.
Was literally screaming this while watching

He just needs a free hinge in the beginning and the end of each segment. Like a train
this was bugging me the whole video lol
I was getting annoyed by this the whole time, having one hinge in the center connected to the forward and backward segments made it so unstable. Needs 2 hinges front in front, back in back.
Nimbus Windstrider edit your comment and say that if you don't know how to edit your comment except tiny dots in the corner of your comment
pfft intros, who needs intros
Who needs intros? WHO NEEDS INTROS?! I DO, and now I'm confused as to who this is. He sounds familiar.... probably a handsome chap, too...
intro’s? where were going we don’t need intro’s!!
as long as the content is good...
Yes need intros
I like that there isn't even an intro. straight into the building and testing
I guess you can call it the eater of worlds
Lathrix a simple solution to the drones hinges going crazy would have been to make a solid block then attach the hinge then put a solid block so the hinge wasnt connecting to stuff so far away.
Rest in peace this video's intro.

This looks like a prototype The Destroyer from Terraria.
Hey, Lath. Here's what you need to do.

Lathrix you silly goose.
I always thought myself more of a potato
Agreed.
Why not place drills on the other part as well wouldn't that fix alot of the issues concerning the space in the tunnels and increase how much you terrain you dig?
You put an extra space...
,,You feel vibrations from deep below,,
Actually it’s “You feel vibrations from deep below”, but you could be referencing something other than the destroyer from terraria.
I don't comment on videos much, but I have to say I really enjoy this drone concept. Lathrixian engineering at it's finest, and I mean that in the most complimentary way. If you place drills on the side when you take sharps turns it will round out the razor sharp corners making it so it won't catch
how about that for a loop, after 1 or 2 years of memes, school, and various other obstacles, right on back to probably my favorite youtuber xD
I think the back section of your worm bot flips over because there is nothing behind to stop him rotating, the midle ones dont rotate because they are framed with the others...
I'd reccamend a small "tail" segment at the end with nothing important in it to keep the last true segment from spinning out of control.
give that snake a derpy face!
Yes, do indeed become the devourer of worlds!
I love your video's. keep being awsome
Titus 291, what? His videos have a thing called "keep being awesome"?
Never had any real care about this game but that’s because I didn’t know it existed, so why is this is my recommended tab RUclips?
Function is always better than fashion. It don't need to look good to work good
to stop the last section flipping out, make it something similar to your stabilized drones, it will stop it from turning around, and could enable you to have rear facing weapons in case any enemies follow you down the hole.
I discovered this channel just now. By searching Nimbatus creations, and this channel is pretty wicked!
same but only just now
he's had the most nimbatus videos ive seen so far
I am far too early nowadays to be an effective commentator.
*grabs left over taco bell tacos*
Let's get gross with worms and shit, shall we?
Also, just got down replaying Mass Effect 2...so I'm thinking Thresher Maws right now
"Anyways, thank you so, so much for watching, if you... How dare you?" - Lathrix, november 18, 2017
Make it like a train with two hinges instead of having a single common hinge for the forward and aft 'rope.' That might deal with the internal flipping issues without so many sensors.
The last segment kept flipping be cause it was pulled from the back and a way to solve this is by putting the hinges up front. Hope you understood
Love seeing videos right after uploaded by pure luck
I think that having one hinge at the back Of each segment would make it smoother
"The Destroyer has awoken!"
So much lathrix! I approoooove!
This guy us seriously underrated. Hope you blow up soon, dude. You've got my sub
It's the eater of worlds
Goddamnit lathrix it's 1:30 am! I need to sleep!
Each segment should be connected to the next with a V shaped set of struts to improve stability and avoid them all spinning around one point
lathrix. in order so you can not only allow the little segments to be bigger but also you could center the module with sensors so you can mine without a care in the world.
Hey Lath this is like the third video in 24 hours!! Awesome!!
Actually..the minus and keypad-minus are visibly counted as separate buttons, as are all of the keypad buttons. So, yeah.
That video name is Full of Happyness and it made my day
XXDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Lathrix makes a logic gate system instead of just changing his thrusters to the adjuaable ones
Have you thought of using two hinges per body segment? and no hinge on the tail to keep it from rotating and just stay lateral in relation to the body segment before it?
Like... (h)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---*(b)*---(t)
where h is the head, b is the body, t is the tail, and the * is each hinge
I think the reason why you had no issue going vertical is because the thrusters increased how much power they were giving, as long as you didn't go over the speed limit they could go up to max thrust. If that makes any sense to anyone but me :/

"They even have lights on them." I guess that's just how _light_ they are.
Comedian Rimshot hit*
Not sure if you've already done anything to this robot, but attaching the hinges at the front and back of each body part instead of in the middle would prevent them from spinning entirely.
Tfw you look at the title and thumbnail and think oh god lathrix what have you done

Lathland is my favorite youtuber :)
Awh shucks ^-^
Lathland is the best RUclips in the world!!!!!!!
*GASP*
EATER OF THE WORLDS!!!!!
or you could add drills to each segment of it and them it will change the terrain to allow itself to keep following
Make a rocket that drills in to the ground and explodes in there!
The body sections need to hold more of the power systems too, right now the body doesn't do anything and the "head" could be slimmed down a lot
you should have connected the different modules via the closes block to the rotating anchor, not by its own anchor, it will solve a lot of the problems you are having, for instance that back segment
You could have used a hinge on the top and bottom of each segment so the back and body would stop completely rotating
Instead of using hinges, try to use sensors to make body parts FOLLOW the craft instead of having everything attached to each other. (Use de couplers)
im assuming the reason some sensors go under and some above is simply the way the game loads in the objects so if it loads the engine first the laser will go above it or if it loads laser first the engines are rendered ontop of it. further proof of this is the last drive of your machine where you brought this up the last segment had a laser go above two engines then below the third.

That's the next video! ..spoilers! ^^
Goddamn, looking forward to it!
You could've used that fancy new mouse controlled directional sensor to steer. That would've worked well
it is ground breaking
A few quick sugestions.
I think it would get even more stable, iff al segments except the last one had their own forwardthrust.

Pretty cool build... I wonder what would happen if you added the mining lasers to each segment?
Can You Do A From The Depths Beginner Tutorial Pls?
He has a couple already. Just search around on the channel.
"we didnt really build anything ground-breaking"
ok
"we" only you built that
"didnt" it literally breaks the ground
Add drills on the side to make it look like it have legs and more better
if you put 2 hinges at the back on on the left corner one on the right it would be more stable and probably stop flipping over
Put a drill one each one so it drips though the sharp turns
If you try something like that again try use the logic splitters on body parts then you can just copy and paste the body parts and you won't have to use different letters and numbers for each piece also use two joints or have the joint at the front of the body
The Eater of Worlds has awoken!
The back one kept flipping because the hinge was on the wrong side
add drills on the side so the body blocks wont get stuck
Might work a bit better if eat segment had a hinge at the front and back. More like actual tandem trailers. Besides that, awesome video like always.
I am very much going to get this game, w-whatever it is
you should connect them at two points so that they dont rotate
theres a couple of things you could of done differently, the segments could of had two hinges to prevent spining, though this wouldnt work at the end and you might want it to be more bottom heavy to fix that. then instead of reducing speed, you could of instead put thrusters on the segments to kinda make them "keep up" so they dont stretch and fling back into place. personally i would of tried a more rigid approach like making all the hinges motorized so the whole thing bends as far as a "U" allowing it to still turn and bend but not so much it breaks it. still turned out not bad though!
Hey you should put drills on the things that are connected
PRAISE BE TO SHAI-HULUD, FOR THE GOD EMPEROR HAD RETURNED
The eater of worlds has awoken!
Wj11jam lol I have terreia
Wj11jam it's more like The Destroyer
Very true, it would be even better if it shot lasers! And how about some probes, too?
Wj11jam its more like the destroyer but ok
Lol
Lathland when your at a planet press c on your keyboard to activate tiny drones
dallin tippets he knows
its the destroyer XD
From terraria? That’s the only one I know of.
A very weird...... thing
How about you connect the tail units with a "rope" on the exterior instead of in the core of them, this way the end would not spin like crazy
use the logic separators to make the bodyparts identical and stackeble. also: so you have a voxel and physics based space game? ooooh claaaaang!
The EATER OF WORLDS AWOKEN! !!
TERRARIA REFERENCE PLAY IT!!!
*has
I dunno if you fixed your issues in a further build or not, but it seems to me that you need the sensors on your mini-sections to be nearly as large as the tunnel you're creating. This will stop them from deviating close to the edges and will keep them in center of the tunnel.
Its the destroyer from terraria! Or eater of worlds from terraria both of them are worms! But the destroyer is mechanical one
probably should of attached two ropes to the last one of the corners?
I would make the back segments fuel cells, as that is right now just for cosmetics, and it is kind of a waste of space.
