  • Ever wonder how cities like Dubai have become such economic powerhouses? It's not just luck-it's about smart policy, like Special Economic Zones (SEZs). These zones create areas with their own rules, designed to attract businesses, investment, and innovation. It’s where the magic happens for entrepreneurs, investors, and those looking for new opportunities.
Ladies of Liberty Alliance (LOLA) Israel was thrilled to host an exciting and insightful webinar featuring Peter Young, the Managing Director of the Free Cities Foundation, to explain how these SEZs work and why they matter.
Peter leads the operational management of the foundation, overseeing project delivery, communications, and finance. Before joining the Free Cities Foundation, Peter spent most of his career in Beijing, supporting trade links between the UK and China, so he knows how these ideas can succeed on a global scale.
The best part? This concept is already taking off. Places like Dubai have used SEZs to turn desert land into one of the world’s biggest business hubs. Peter will break down how Free Cities and Special Economic Zones like these offer a glimpse into the future-where cities can operate independently, set their own rules, and unleash unlimited potential.
Hosting this conversation is Daniela Traub, member of LOLA TLV, who has a BA in International Relations and Theatre from the Hebrew University and an MA in Diplomacy and Security from Tel Aviv University. Her doctoral research focuses on foreign policy analysis in the normalization process between Muslim states and Israel. Daniela has also published two novels, and in the last few years, she’s focused on business development in the hi-tech sector. She previously served as the Israeli Deputy Ambassador to Ireland and as Assistant to the Military Attaché to Italy.
Curious about how these zones can change the game? Watch lively discussion and discover how Free Cities are shaping the future of business and innovation!
