Five Terrific Travel Brushes...And I Can Always Harvest The Dog If I'm Stuck

  • Hello all,
In this video I share with you some truly beautiful brushes, four from Rosemary & Co. and one from Roman Szmal Aquarius. Full disclosure: I am - as of a week or two ago - an affiliate for Rosemary & Co., which means I get a little something every time someone buys a brush on my recommendation (use code ROISIN2024 if you want to help me!) but the truth is I have been recommending Rosemary & Co. ever since I bought my first R13 back in 2018.
(I have other brushes by Rosemary that aren't featured in this video, which I love, and I am alarmed, because I can't find them. I only hope they're in my studio under all the chaos somewhere...if and when they turn up I will share with you the reasons they're so great too!)
While I sell watercolour paints by Roman Szmal, I no longer sell the brushes. That's because I only have 5 left in stock and I want to keep them for myself, and to give as gifts to some very lucky recipients - I LOVE that brush! So you could say I am biased towards Roman Szmal products in general.
I forgot to say in the video that the reason you need a big fat natural sable or squirrel brush is that a natural brush holds loads of liquid before it runs dry, on one stroke of paint. This means that you can mke lovely skies or other large areas without any brushstrokes to disturb the nice smooth surface.
In the video, I joke about harvesting my rough-coated Jack Russell terrier Reuben's fur for a brush, but the real reason it's a joke is that I don't know how to make brushes. I cut Reuben's hair every month or two, and while I almost invariably make a terrible job of it, there is always a heap of white fluff on the lawn afterwards that gets blown to the four winds, to be picked up by birds making nests. It's MY fur! I pay for Reuben's food and vet bills, so I should have it! If I ever do watch a RUclips video about making a brush, I shall use some of Reuben's by-product for a brush...I am sure he'd like to contribute in some way, as well as making us all as happy as he does :)
Here's a link to Rosemary & Co.'s travel brushes, but you can buy anything from Rosemary and you can still use the code:
    www.rosemaryan...
There's nothing like a little packet of Rosemary brushes arriving in the post. I can't wait to try others.
Happy sketching - and see you next time!
    Róisín X

Hi! Great informational video, again! My R13, Beatrix, arrived last week and I love it. I have many Rosemary Brushes and, for sure, you can't go wrong! My favorite is Agatha. She is an R9 and had travelled from Yorkshire, across the US with several stops, including San Francisco, and for some reason decided to go back to the East Coast. I was sure she was going home but she did finally arrive. Beatrix is her new best friend. I did mention you when I ordered Beatrix! You are the best!!!

Another very informative video. I’ve just received (today), two Rosemary & Co brushes. An R13 (as recommended by your good self), and an R12 dagger brush (as recommended by Taria of pretty sketchy TV). Looking forward to trying them out over the next few days.

Reuben brushes sounds like a plan .... I too love a delivery from Rosemary and Co. And if you don't want to lose your brushes she does some great brush cases for these travel brushes. The one for 3 brushes I fit about 6 in. :) Just waiting for another R13 (just need a spare for this essential brush) and a couple of limited edition brushes to try out - and of course I remembered the affiliate link for you.

Thanks so much Jan! I just came across the little cottage they rent out. It looks so tempting. Maybe one day I’ll reward myself for something special and spend a few days there. I have that little brush case - I will use it in future!

@@roisincure Just got my little package from Rosemary and Co through the post. And there was the leaflet for the cottage. It looks lovely. Of the places it mentions the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is probably my favourite especially as it has some Barbara Hepworth and Henry More pieces. I need to go there alone next time and sketch some amazing pieces - and the countryside is wonderful too. I am lucky enough that this is all pretty local to me. They say they run workshops with "the very best teachers from around the world". Well there's a working holiday for you. 😁
