    hi, i had this year the same issue too, the best thing what helped was cutting all the leeves off, and lett only the fruits on the plant (like a skeleton), it helped pretty quickly and the first fruits startet to ripen after only a few days

    I know this video is pretty old, but there are other tricks you can use to force the peppers to ripen.
    1. Remove unnecessary leaves. If they are very large and old, they serve no real purpose. Their aid in photosynthesis is minimal. You can conservatively remove about 1/2 of the leaves from the pepper plant and it will be just fine. Those leaves are robbing the fruit of nutrients. I just remove them and throw them right back down into the soil so they can break down and nourish the plant.
    2. Deprive the plant of water. Only give it 1/2 of the water that you would normally give it. This forces the entire plant into a state of survival mode. Not only will the fruit begin to ripen, but the peppers tend to be hotter than normal when you do this.
    Those are my tips for getting the peppers to ripen.

    • @fjalls
      @fjalls 2 года назад

      Wow, this is the opposite of what I "feel" like doing. My plant has leaves bigger than my hand at the bottom and the plant tend to sag a bit if I dont water through the pot.
      So you say I should maybe remove the big leaves on the main stem and water 50% of what I would have?
      It has started to give fruits like crazy, no ripe yet. I want the strongest possible :)

    • @trinitymaker5833
      @trinitymaker5833 2 года назад

      @@fjalls Only use the aforementioned suggestions to expedite ripening. Otherwise, let the peppers do what they do. It never hurts to remove some of the leaves. Then the plant will divert nutrients into the fruit.

    I always pick my peppers as soon as they are ripe didn’t know I was speeding the process up

  • @Kauntvlad
    @Kauntvlad 8 лет назад +28

    That's actually the slower way, faster would be to take off everything above pods that you want to rippen. That includes all new branches, leaves, small pods and flowers.

    • @DraconesMori
      @DraconesMori 3 года назад +2

      Will this work even if none of the peppers has color?

    • @Kauntvlad
      @Kauntvlad 3 года назад +4

      Yes it's best for that setup. It will speed up rippening but it's not magic. Begining of october is ideal time for that.

    • @Kauntvlad
      @Kauntvlad 3 года назад +1

      De nada :) If you can put them under south/southeast/east window. Cold will help rippening too, so if it's not under 45 at night, keep them out.

      My plant has 1 ripe one and thats it. So what exactly would you recommend I do? Thanks for ant input you may be able to help me with. This is my first go at growing anything. • @Kauntvlad
      @Kauntvlad 3 года назад +1

      @Venus Morbidae If it's nice during the day, you can bring them inside only at night. Until temps go under 45 and then is game over for outside.

    I attempted to ripen some green habaneros by placing them in a paper bag with a small apple I picked (a trick I learned from my Nonna for other fruits), it's been 4 days but no signs of ripening. That's how I happened upon this particular video so I can ripen what's still on the plant so I can make pepper sauce. Thanks for the 411 Khang! Wade Wilson thanks for your reply😊 The plant is supposed to be Jamaican Hot Yellow peppers and I’m growing it in Toronto. I also took one off, but nothing has happened yet... so we will see... it’s just a bit frustrating as I have about 60 green pots (20-30 full size ones and 30 or so smaller ones) and none of them has changed color a bit. I am also growing it in a container so I alternate to put some nutrients and worm casting every other week or so. I don’t know if it’s because it has too many pots on it and it doesn’t have the energy to concentrate on ripening of any of them? It’s my first time growing peppers, I didn’t expected to see this many pots on this plant so I’m super nervous about them, haha.

    I'd rather have a smaller, fully-ripened harvest than a large harvest half-ripened. They taste better when ripened on the plant. The rest I can recycle in my compost pile. While a pepper will appear to ripen after it's picked, it's only the color. It never gets sweeter or more flavorful and is therefore less nutritious because it has been pulled of the plant. If I want flavorless, non-nutritious peppers, I'll just stop growing them and buy them in the store instead. ;)

      ? No?
      Picking early or late has literally 0 to do with a fruit being organic or not.

    Picking off the rip ones don't work either! The only fast way. is to gas them with Ethylene gas!
