Billy G. as a guitarist is very minimalistic and sometimes even a bit clumsy to be honest, but his sense of phrasing is out of this world. You cannot find many people who can play same notes for hours without becoming boring. The trick is in the small details, and Billy owns bagful of these tricks and details.
It’s all about “feel”! And you can’t really learn that…that’s in the genes! Guys like Leslie West, Mick Ronson, Peter Green, Larry Carlton….and Billy Gibbons! I could tell you who it was just by one vibrato note!
Mike, Your Rockaplast vids of zz top Have blown my shit away,I love em! And with the recent passing of Dusty, These Vids have become priceless! Thanks Mike for sharing them, you are a saint Dude,I really appreciate Ya!!
I had seen this concert directly then in 1980, here from Denmark, Europe and me and my friend, who also plays guitar and bass was blown away, such a supergroup, like Cream
I fucking LOVE this song! The key change at the end of the verses is so fucking cool.. I'm telling you.. Billy Gibbons in the 70s was untouchable. So tasteful. His phrasing is so freaking good..
👍 Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs the other day. My first rock concert May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University Rory Gallagher ZZ Top (6 months pre-Tres Hombres, no beards, but Frank) $4 Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. (RIP Rory, Lou, Rod. Thank You!)
Best version ever of Arrested for Driving While Bund. In all seriousness though, ZZ at their peak are what makes rock great. Frank is the most overlooked monster of a drummer there's ever been.
Thizz gig izz outstanding .... Billy izz flying, ... Frank izz so fuckin' mellow while killing it'zz ... and Dusty izz the Reverend ... layin' it'zz all down ....
One of the loudest concerts I have ever been too. My ears rang for several days after that show. So did my head. These cats are rock and roll. No auto tune not just 3 ole boys from Texas have a good time and getting paid for it. I saw them sever time each show was loud and bad ass .
Hard to imagine anything about Frank Beard being underrated. The Tejas album this comes from might be a bit underrated though. Probably my favorite of them all so I’ve never understood why it got such little airtime on the radio when I was a teenager. Great performance, thanks for posting it!
I saw them twice at the Capital Center in Md back in the late 80s, early 90s ? Saw them again at The Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. after that. They rock pretty well !
I grew up in Delco PA and I remember this concert playing on MTV late one night back in maybe 84 or 85,I think MTV were trying to introduce the MTV world to ZZTOP because not long after that they were on MTV 100 times a day
When you're driving down the highway at night And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite Don't give Johnny Walker a ride 'Cause Jack Black is right by your side You might get taken to the jailhouse and find You've been arrested for driving while blind Now just the other night with nothin' to do We broke a case of proof 102 And started itchin' for that wonderful feel Of rollin' in an automobile You could say we was out of our mind And let me tell you we were flyin' while blind Then they had us up against the wall Hey it's only blood grain alcohol And there ain't no cause for alarm We ain't out to do nobody no harm How could anyone be so unkind To arrest a man for drivin' while blind
Yeah. Obviously. But it still works...until fairly recently, it wasn't possible to drive if you were blind. Now it is...with special glasses and 6mo of training, I'm told
Michelle M That's awesome! I, too, until fairly recently couldn't drive whilst blind. But then I moved to Thailand, where the police are a joke, and I discovered I could drive whilst blind about 97% of the time without trashing a motorbike... :-)
Maybe i'm just just seeing things but that LP looks like a '59 and i was under the impression he never played that baby live? Anybody help me out here??
Frank Beard's shuffle is one of the meanest, highly underrated and most driving around. His left hand technique on the snare is fierce.
Frank*s playing during the 70s was outstanding ... Fandango Side 1 is the meanest Bass Drum eva
Agreed!!!!
Texas Shuffle

So right maybe some day theyll make it big 😎😜
Milos Popovic you said it. More soul than any speedster.
It’s all about “feel”! And you can’t really learn that…that’s in the genes! Guys like Leslie West, Mick Ronson, Peter Green, Larry Carlton….and Billy Gibbons!
I could tell you who it was just by one vibrato note!
This is the man who can make one note sound like a whole scale!
It’s just rock and roll, bro. 🤘
My MOM took me to see ZZ Top....how awesome is that??
Mike, Your Rockaplast vids of zz top Have blown my shit away,I love em! And with the recent passing of Dusty, These Vids have become priceless! Thanks Mike for sharing them, you are a saint Dude,I really appreciate Ya!!
Thank you, I really enjoyed doing it!

Get ready Lord, it's about to get real up there. R.I.P. Dusty.
Rockpalast 1980 i saw it ( Live) on my Tv in Sweden that night.
Frank Beard is an underrated drummer
I totally agree. Rock solid.
I fucking LOVE this song! The key change at the end of the verses is so fucking cool.. I'm telling you.. Billy Gibbons in the 70s was untouchable. So tasteful. His phrasing is so freaking good..

Fabulous band, I heard it since 1976, no one can replace their sound, it's unique.
This is my favorite song from Rockpalast live
Thanks Billy for the guitar lick at 3:00! :-)
early Top, some of the best. . .
Hard to imagine anything about Frank Beard being underrated. The Tejas album this comes from might be a bit underrated though. Probably my favorite of them all so I’ve never understood why it got such little airtime on the radio when I was a teenager. Great performance, thanks for posting it!
THE Greatest American Band.
Fantastic band then and now 😊. Missing dusty but all time Billy still plays like a god , their just the best! 👍🏻
Excellent quality for an old video.....Thanks
Yeah they had good cameras back then, too....duuuuh.
Have mercy....
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
Billy and the Boyz in Fine Form this Night!
1983 Elimanator tour best concert I ever saw
I saw them twice at the Capital Center in Md back in the late 80s, early 90s ? Saw them again at The Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va. after that. They rock pretty well !

i was 12. saw this tour. their best in my opinion.
Fuck.... i was 18 and there....greatest gig!!
The biggest live sound of any power trio - ever.
Gigantic. Pearly Gates was roaring back then.
ELP, Grand Funk Railroad.
Blues Rock = ZZ Top 🤟🤟
I grew up in Delco PA and I remember this concert playing on MTV late one night back in maybe 84 or 85,I think MTV were trying to introduce the MTV world to ZZTOP because not long after that they were on MTV 100 times a day
When you're driving down the highway at night
And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite
Don't give Johnny Walker a ride
'Cause Jack Black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You've been arrested for driving while blind
Now just the other night with nothin' to do
We broke a case of proof 102
And started itchin' for that wonderful feel
Of rollin' in an automobile
You could say we was out of our mind
And let me tell you we were flyin' while blind
Then they had us up against the wall
Hey it's only blood grain alcohol
And there ain't no cause for alarm
We ain't out to do nobody no harm
How could anyone be so unkind
To arrest a man for drivin' while blind
Best band ever
The best!
❤❤❤
brilliant and beautiful
I LOVE this tune. Praise be Rev Willie G!
man they could play,wow, thanks.
en las fiestas bailábamos super volados estos temas, jajaja que tiempos....
Tone to the Bone!
"Arrested for driving while bund" danke, deustchland.
@2:17
Listen to that Les Paul ! For those who don’t know, Billy named the guitar Pearly Gates. It’s a 59’ and is as legendary as the band.
Soooooo good.
awsame brilliant.
Incredible!
I know a blind woman who likes this song and with modern technology, actually can drive using special glasses
The song is not about that "blindness". Is about a drunken guy xD
Yeah.
I know a woman that is not blind, she mostly listens to popmusic and she does not use glasses
Apparently, one person was so unkind to arrest a man for driving while blind.
Apparently 27 Mothers Against Drunk Drivers are down voting this epic blues rock masterpiece!
Seen them many times each time was better n better!
Very good ZZ TOP!!!
I think reverend Willy G must be from another planet
oh yea. thanks for the vid
Sweet
Watch this one. Badass!
Drivin’ while “snow” blind, maybe!
. . . but, Man, these guy’s rock!!
William F. Gibbons and Company, better known as "22 TOP"! He He...
In Rockpalast gesehen, musste wegen Vater’s Sportschau umschalten😖, Montag sofort “Deguello” im Plattenladen gekauft.
Nice Les Paul Guitar...
je les ai vu en CONCERT à PARIS en 1983! après la naissance de ma fille en 1983.
I don't think I've ever seen Frank Beard even break a sweat
Manic mechanic from this show is the best version......nowhere to be found!!!!!
No one here on RUclips plays the subtle slide in the background.
Fuck yeah 🔥
Fucking GOOD!!!
Yeap. dang good stuff
😊.
Can I just say, driving while blind been there done that. 😂😂😂😂😂
Brought to you from the mind of Reverend William Frederick Gibbons ! 🧠 🙃

2:15 - Arrested For Driving While Bund
I have been arrested for driving blind twice. so I quit driving.
ZZ TOPs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
he wants ta tear up ol pearly ?
Maybe i'm just just seeing things but that LP looks like a '59 and i was under the impression he never played that baby live? Anybody help me out here??
He played his 59 live up until recently. Now he can use his collectors choice model and not worry about damaging the original.
FL Guitarist So is this "Pearly Gates"? Just asking? Good Day Mate....
Texas Muddog Yeah, it is
Billy used nothing but pearly up to very recently, that'd be in the studio or live
- Billy was so skinny then... same for the music. They fattened it so much since through rigs and effects...
I saw them on stage this summer in Sweden, Billy was more skinny then ever...
"ARRESTED WHILE DRIVING BUND"
