I've always been fascinated by that time period and New York City, the dirty New York city you see in countless movies, it must have been some place back then.
I find new york city fascinating & in 2015 I could finally afford to go and ended up going there, alone, for two weeks.... I wish I could of experienced it during the 70s/80s/90s ... even still its an amazing city.
Cars these days have no character. They all started to look the same sometime in the late-90's, early-00's. And LED headlights are the final nail in the coffin. The old ones in this video are called classics for a reason.
In 1979, my high school buddy was in Times Square one night (we lived in upstate NY). His father had driven down to NYC for some reason and his son went with him. He was playing pinball in the back of a drug store in Times Square and then some 20-ish year old pimp came up to him and tried to sell "his (18 year old) sister's" ...um, 'services'.. to my friend. Times Square (1979) --- a cesspool of lurid sex in that era.
If I had to pick one record to accompany this footage, it would be “Betcha wouldn’t hurt me” by Patti Austin and Quincy Jones. That would sound perfect to me.
@@simoneboldreghini7209 greetings. i grew up in this town in this era. it was magical and exciting! you could feel the intensity of ambition and dreams in the NYC air in the 70s and 80s. people came there from all over to prove their worth and conquer the world. sincerely john galt dough
This is when NYC was REAL, Now it's all a bunch of Disneyland HORSESHIT!!!, That why I got the hell out of there in 2004, living in Monterey CA now and LOVE IT!!!
I left in 2001 I moved to AZ then LA no regrets. But this was the NYC i grew up in as a teen and young adult. I went in every one of those theaters and peep shows multiple times and the arcades~
It was rough back in the 1970s and 1980s. Muggers roaming all around, prostitutes and open market drug deals. NYPD hardly enforced any laws there unless it involved murder. Drunks passed out face down in the gutters and porno shops and peep shows almost every 100 feet.
Daniel S it was fun. It was the city that never sleeps. It was the place you could Have a dream. Now it is yuppie hipster dog waking star bucks boring and white.
@@alexmunch6118 wow replying to an 8 year old comment and I’m on crack? How long did it take you to find this comment. This isn’t even a video of the “city” …it’s Times Square, which is what I was taking about. Generalizing of course.
@@JJLuver33 No shit this is only a video of times square. Thats what im talking about too. Your original comment shows that either you havent been to the city lately, or you are on drugs. +Eldon B TODAY NYC IS LIKE A TECH COCK TOO MANY IPODS IPHONES
DONT HAVE THAT NYC FEEL ANYMORE
e Kopke yep
Tijuana seemed to have that gritty 1980 vibe to it I went last year.
especially Law and Order in the early 90s.. they literally shot all over the city. its dope to see what it used to look like
I can verify that!!!
Absolutely brilliant footage of the golden age of Times Square, so many great theatres now gone.
So fascinated by the old cars driving by!
I lived on 47th and 7th in 1980 so THANKS for the trip back in time! I only lived there for two years but it was a great time!
1970s and 80s was the best time to be there
best times period
yassss
Yes, actually.
Reminds me of incredible Taxi Driver.. 70s-80s were the most violent but best periods of New York.. The era that defines New York
god knows i miss it! 1980s NYC ...... Danceteria , Mudd club , continental , Paradise Garage , Roxy .....
+TERRA NOVA MAMA LEONEAS RESTAURANT 1985 I WAS THERE FROM A TRIP FROM CONNECTICUT
I'm over in Australia and have only read about those joints...Must have been something special..
Paradise Garage!!!!!! WOWW!!! You've been there????
:-( I wish I was there!!!

Wow 😮 I love these classic vintage video footages
Wish it looked like this today!
It definitely does just less flavor and much more corporate.
the REAL nyc
thanks for sharing..had a great couple of visits there in the early 1980's!
the idolmaker was released in november of 80 so this had to be around then...
I wish I got to see new york in the 80s. I am about to turn 21 and I havent yet visited. Im from Australia - NYC has always been my dream.
good camera for 1980.
This has gotta be film not tape. Probably explains the lack of sound.
Shogun Assassin at the Lyric 😎🔥
i'm so glad they invented steady cams
I like watching this footage while playing the Taxi Driver score from Bernard Herrmann
in the good old days
Back when Times Square was Times Square....
I wonder if Nelson Sullivan is wandering around there
it's like almost different country. this is why we need to preserve thing or time travel.
One of the best names in comic book movies 0:50
Very cool can't say I miss it though.
Florsheim Shoes and Orange Julius. Back when you can get anything you needed in NY and didn't need Amazon.
So many cars considered classics these days. I wonder what cars 30 years from now people will be nostalgic about. Ones they wish were still around.
The ones you have to drive yourself and run on gasoline. As opposed to electric and/or self driving cars that will probably be common by 2050 or 2060.

I think Travis Bickle filmed this.
I guess the '70s didn't quite die yet back then. Also if I were to time travel to the past in New York, the 1990s would be my best choice.
+FastCarsNoRules220 It was only 1980. Previous decades tend to stick around in the early years of new ones.
Times Square was ghost town in the 90s. The city shut down and shuttered most of 42nd street.
Just in a frenzy watching 👀🔥😳😍😍😍😍😍😍 love it! Real NEW YORK CITY!

The year I was born, the city I am from!
I love NY!
I don t like US and Western Europe, but I must say, that the NYC is one of the best cities in the world.
What is it you don't like in western Europe? I'm not saying that it's wrong but i'd like to know :)

anything uptempo would work gimme the night, stomp etc. Q had a sound based on this city nights, live the life type hip vibe.
