Thank you very much. I’m old school and have been tying for 30+ years now in my early days you had to “use what you have”. You didn’t have a fly shop at your fingertips and had half the material we have now. It’s just what you did.
Shawn ….. FANTASTIC tutorial !!!!!! Excellent philosophy on “ use what You Have !!! “. Genius and keeps it FUN 🤩! I have yet to find the Original HENDS color Anywhere !!!!! Thanks for my last order and Have a Super New Season !!!! Be Well, Brian in NW Michigan ✨🎣💫
Thank you very much. We get the original color in every now and then. It's really weird. We always order every color when we order from them because it's such a hassle ordering from overseas. Often times we get every color but the original color and it is backordered. One time we received the original color and every other color was backordered. You just never know.
I’ve been catching fish on the gasoline. Nice ‘bows, Little Red River, Arkansas. I tie them with a black color, and now I aim to tie some with a hotspot. I’ve clipped a bit of my own hair, palmered it, and caught fish.
I have had great success with the Gasolina. I was able to bag some of the Heads 233 tinsel early on, but I can't say with confidence that it possesses special mojo that other materials lack. There is even some debate as to whether the color of the tinsel varies on the front and back sides as you wrap it, and whether you can even "ruin" the color if you stretch the tinsel too hard when you wind it. Hends sells the same color (their #233) as a flashabou product, as well as a foil, and none of them appear identical in color. As you pointed out, even the same material may vary in color from lot to lot. I will say this stuff changes hue depending on the angle of the light. As you mention, the color of the thread underneath also has a significant effect on this tinsel, and any other translucent product. Just to give credit where credit is due, the fly was actually invented by Spanish competition anglers. Torrey Collins, who manages Upcountry Sportfishing on the Farmington River in Connecticut apparently learned of the pattern and passed it on the George Daniel, who did his own video on it back in 2020. Any way, it is a great fly. I don't usually add a hot spot, which was not part of the original Spanish version, and it fishes great. I am finding wild fish on heavily pressured streams are less excited about hot spots than they were just a few years ago. You get stung by enough things with a bright orange or pink spot, you might not want to eat another one!
I stand by my statement that it is more important how you put a fly in front of a fish’s face than it is what fly you put in front of their face. Perdigons are not Stillwater flies when fished right should be traveling past the fish and not giving them the time to decide if the color of tinsel is correct for the pattern or not. Thanks for adding it came from the Spanish guys. I’m all for giving credit where credit it due.
Howdy Sean, I have a lot of sulky Hollow shimmer colors greens blues reds I purchased at sewing shop. To me these colors look very similar to the hens. have you ever tried this material? Peace love the show
Years ago a buddy gave me some to try. I just remember trying it, not much more. If it works for you use it. I actually get stuff at the craft stores all the time. Thanks for watching
You are such a good teacher. Not only the tying, but explanations on fishing the fly as well. I’m indebted and grateful. Till next time.
Thank you so much. It helps that I love what I get to do. I’m glad that I’m able to help.
Once again Sean, great video. I appreciate how you always stress “use what you have.”
