OPPOSING Upper Body Workout / Dumbbells | EPIC Heat - Day 12

- Antagonist pairing upper body session! Basically it’s a very simple method of working a muscle group, then into the opposing (chest/back, shoulders/lats, biceps/triceps) in order to allow better performance due to more rest, and more volume overall! Mostly compound lifts so will require a lot of energy as different muscles working during one exercise!
For this upper body workout you will need a pair of dumbbells and your mat!
I am using a chair for seated press (as I prefer to be seated if using dumbbells over 14kg on shoulder press) and also for pull overs for that larger range of motion but this is not essential! Pullovers on the mat are perfect!
The dumbbells I am using for your reference are 15kg each and 8kg each!
The timer will be on for a majority of the workout for 45 seconds of work, 15 seconds rest, occasionally it will be 50 seconds of work, 10 seconds rest.
It is important to go at your own pace. This applies to all the exercises. You will notice I perform each movement pretty slow... controlling the movement makes the weight feel a lot heavier, particularly on the lowering portion!

You should be feeling pretty fatigued by the time you reach the Arnold Presses so ensure you perform with smooth lifts and lowering!
A lot of compound movements particularly at the beginning so you will be working all of your upper body during the first portion of this workout, hence once we hit shoulders, biceps & triceps you feel it!!
Hopefully you enjoy the rest during for example chest press then into renegade rows... you essentially gain a full minute rest on the chest muscles!
A lot of volume in these 30 minutes!! 👊🏼And your lats will feel this a lot no doubt!!

Hi Matthew, very true. The colours in today’s workout are so beautiful. Day 12 done! Today I jumped weight and did 4KG and I feel the burn on my arms 🎉 I also did 600 steps on the STAIRMASTER in 12 mins too so got a good sweat into! Excited for the next workout x

I ❤ Caroline Girvans Training , this 30 mins will give your upper body the pump of its life and will seriously show your true potential. Used 17.5kg for the Chest Back and Shoulders and 10kg for the Biceps, Triceps and Raises. How these set link together is so effective and I love the opportunity to go a little heavier with good form and pace. Rest is limited, in fact it's really only enough to transistion between sets but I loved that. This one is definitely being rolled out again I loved it. I don't think I have ever been so pumped after a workout. EPIC Heat is really delivering for me I love the 30 mins full on DB sessions and the additional sprints 3 times a week. Its only week three and I'm so excited for the rest of this incredible program.

I absolutely loved this one as well Anthony. The pump was definitely REAL after this one!! I could feel the cardio aspect today with the limited rest as well. Just enough time to move the weights and get into the new position and it was already time to go again. Those holds and the finisher were something else!! Oh it burned so good!! I can honestly say I have loved every day of Epic Heat so far. This program is phenomenal. Every workout has been so unique and so challenging. It just keeps getting better and better!

@@melinda5610 Melinda I totally agree today was my all time favourite and I have so many. My shoulders really took a hammering and yes the holds. Its so funny a few weeks ago I thought I was loosing my strength and endurance on my Push-ups but clearly we are working them in Heat because today they were on point. I'm finished nearly two hours and the pump is still there. I love feeling when it exhausts you but even though you have no rest you still manage to kill the next set. Well done Melinda, love hearing how you are blasting through Heat. Awesome work.

That was liken a crash course of all the muscle groups of the upper body and back.. It was quite intense! One feels the sense of accomplishment after finishing! Resorted to your same weights except for a set of the flyes and rear delts, I went to 5 as well as the sweeps! My biceps are growing stronger, so very pleased. Thank you!

I survived! But arms are gone! 🥵 Toughest upper body workout yet. By 50% arms and chest are shaking. Those deadbugs I could only do a few. Finisher was a killer. After a few seconds of the Deep push-ups hold I was kissing the ground 😂. Feels Amazing to finish this! Thanks Caroline! ❤️

Wow! I’m listening to your intro and description and I’m thinking « all this in 30 minutes? How is it possible? » I can’t wait to do this one later today. I’ve done EPIC 1 and 2 series, and many of your other workouts. But this EPIC HEAT is kicking my butt! I feel this good (?) post workout muscle ache after each workout. It’s an ongoing joke with my partner who also does it « my legs are still hurting from yesterday and now she wants us to do what? » « no dear, legs were two days ago, yesterday it was shoulders » « all the same, I’m aching everywhere! When is rest day? » CG, you’re the best!

I loved the opposing theme of this workout. Obviously my weights were half of Caroline's but they gave me a good run for the whole workout. It was great fun and I enjoyed every second of it!!

Upper body is always a challenge for me. Still trying to master different types of push ups but the other day I tried pull ups with the help of an elastic band and now my lats are sore 🙃 The important thing is to keep going, although in baby steps! 💪
I've always done supersets, but never opposing muscles. This was a great and refreshing way to workout! Thank you!!

Wow...this was a good one, maybe my favourite upper body of yours. Loved it. Take it from the description you were gonna put Arnold presses in then decided to remove them, good move, doubt I could have done many at the end 🔥🔥 loved the finisher. Slowly starting to warm to push ups. A move I used to dread doing, maybe that's because I see big improvement. Thank you ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Day 12!! Let me tell you when I started his workout challenge a 5lb weight could take me down. But now I starting workout at 20lbs and finishing at 15lbs. It’s mind blowing what the human body can do with motivation and consistency! Thank you Caroline for refueling my love for exercising.
Wow, that is amazing arm strength! Is this for men also? I am a man and did this lesson but it was just brutal! I could manage only with 1 lb dumbbells didn't even last 14 minutes and I stopped as my arms and shoulders just gave up.😔I feel very low and unconfident.
