Perhaps try a new one from somewhere else that will be genetically different to your main plant and cuttings. I’m on the Mornington Peninsula and mine fruits every year without any special attention underneath the shelter of some mature cocos palms. It makes incredible tasting jam and I just made a new batch of Babaco and Mango this week.
Our Babacos in Brunswick continue to flower and fruit, but our soil is pretty balanced. It definitely has dry winter and wet summer cycle though due our raised and less rainfall in winter than you George.
Hey George, I have read that you need to prune the side shoots and leave the strongest main stem to grow in order to make good fruit. Maybe try to buy a new plant and grow another one. It may be better than the old plant.
Babaco needs pruning, Phosphorus and Potassium to fruit. I had one, it was strong but fussy about flowering until its required needs were met. Greetings from Palermo, Sicily island.
@@RealLifeFruitopia that's exactly the problem I suspect George, the Bay is ultra competitive and vigorous. When i look at the root systems on my babaco ( in pots of course ) they have pretty pathetic fibrous root systems lol. My 1 metre tall air-layer actually has a fruit developing on it yet the original parent has nothing 😂. I'm only guessing they are poor competitors anyway 😉

You may be right. It's been weird so many years without a single flower.

The original cutting that was planted held a dozen fruit without adding any amendments or fertilizer. This same plant hasn't fruited since.
Looking at where you've planted them they look pretty stunted mate, i don't think they can compete well with other plants 🤔
That's very strange. The Bay leaf tree beside it grows over 5 metres each year, that only a chainsaw can manage it.
