Well done for doing what most educated, modern and Teagasc advised Farmers journal farmer readers wont have anything to do with namely have some of your own food. Most Irish farmers are fed from the supermarkets, ie a direct compounded contradiction of a farmers life, ie food. If fossil fuels did not arrive in Irish ports and the reason why would not matter the Irish would starve all over again. If any glitch comes into the system we take for granted, ie power shortage, unexpected bad weather or no fuel famine would descend overnight. Modern farming for production alone and no food on and from the homeplace has looking for the devil all over it. Rant over.
Totally agree micheal I want to learn what and how I can grow things yes it's easier to buy food in the shops but the taste alone there's no comparison to what we have grown. The farm here is 75 acres we should be able to produce a little ourselves rather than going giving money to companies who have already made money off the farmers back by giving a low ball price it's like shooting yourself in the foot. This year is an experiment might go bigger next year with more of a plan to it. Sure when the snow was bad last winter one day of lorries off the road and that ment nothing on the shelves for a week just goes to show our total reliance on outside sources it's scary when you think of it
