  • All right, now here is the continuation of my awesome description of Central Park 1980 for part 2!
After a breather, Elton returns, now wearing a military-style suit with piano keys, complete with a matching hat, and plays an energetic version of Saturday Night's Alright, which is one of the best live versions ever, with hectic vocals and piano FTW! And also, the audience is eagerly participating in the "Saturdays" near the end. It is worth noting that in the 2nd verse, his stoned nature comes out when he says "give me love" instead of "see me right", I love it! He then follows it with Harmony, another Yellow Brick Road song, which he introduces as one of his "most famous non-played numbers," but he "decides to play it this time," and it just fantastic, even better than the album version! Next is a song from 21 at 33, "a song about naughty substances" as EJ puts it, and that is White Lady White Powder, and it is very energetic, with fun vocals and sprightly piano and instrumentals. This is then followed by another 21 at 33 song, Little Jeannie, Elton's #1 hit of 1980. IMO, this is better than the album version, the slightly faster pacing and Elton's great vocals and the instrumentation here make it so. Bennie and the Jets is next, and it is easily the best version of 1980 and one of my personal favorite live versions of Bennie ever, and it isn't hard to see why: it has great vocals as always, and great instrumentation, plus an amazing piano improv solo at the end which EJ is famous for in live versions of Bennie! He then surprises the crowd by performing John Lennon's hit Imagine, because Lennon lived close to Central Park and the show within earshot of his residence and also because John was working on his album Milk and Honey (which would be released posthumously in 1984, RIP John Lennon), and the crowd goes wild when he starts the famous opening chord! No offense to John Lennon, but Elton's version of Imagine is much better, I love the instrumentation, and Elton's voice goes well with the song. It is funny near the end, when Elton substitutes "schemer" for "dreamer." Another LOL moment! Elton then performs Ego, which is, as he puts it, one of his favorite Bernie Taupin compositions, and it is even better than the studio version, I love the fast pace and the train whistle! Also worth noting is that in the 2nd chorus he says "tell them poofs sent me" instead of "tell them heaven sent me", another funny moment in the show! A song from Don't Shoot Me comes up and that is Have Mercy On The Criminal, never-before-heard on previous versions of this concert! It is an amazing version, with epic, powerful vocals and spectacular music! Someone Saved My Life Tonight then follows, and it is just an amazing version, even better than the album version, with great vocals and epic music and an extended ending!
Elton returns after another breather, this time wearing a Donald Duck costume (the most famous costume from this show), and the audience bursts into laughter, and even Elton his laughing hard! He performs Your Song, which is the funniest version ever, as he laughs throughout the song, and he even says "quack!" 2 times during the song! The concert comes to an end with an energetic rendition of Bite Your Lip, a fitting end to an amazing concert, another version which is superior to the album version!
I mark this as one of my definitive uploads, along with Sydney 1986, 11/17/70, and Wembley Arena 1977. I hope you enjoy this show, and look forward to more awesome shows in the future!
