@ZionHillFarm I'm with you .. I like this version better than the later one. She said she didn't think she did the song justice and did it again ... but I think she did a terrific version here. She definitely had a true gifit .. thank goodness she started singing .. she wanted to be a dancer but was injured in a car-train wreck. thank you ... so happy you enjoyed !
Issy -- I'm glad you liked it ---- sent you into your Doris dream world for a little while ! She definitely deserves all your praise - and ours too ! She's one talented and loving human being. Ok I'll stop too ! Thanks again - take care - Toni
Thanks, Cherri !! I wanted to do one with some of her earlier photos ! She was so young ! Started singing with a band at about 16. Glad you enjoyed it !! Take care, Toni
@captjohn10 Thank you. Up until about 10 years ago I really wasn't aware of her pre-Hollywood career ... which was a career unto itself ! So happy you enjoyed !
@raybrkly654 You said it !! Her singing always goes straight to the heart .... she's one of the best at interpreting a song. She's quite a lady !! So happy you enjoyed !
@hepburnsinatrakb This is a great song from Doris and the Les Brown band. Have to agree with you ... love her style and charm too. Thanks for watching .. really happy you enjoyed !!
Well - welcome to being a Doris fan. There are a lot of us out here ! She really could sing anything. I think you'll be surprised at how much you'll begin to love her music !! I know I'm hooked ! Thanks - check out some of the other songs I've posted. She recorded around 600 songs - so there are a lot more than are here on yt. Thanks !!
Doris was very successful but at the same time underrated Aretha Franklin even stated that she felt that Doris was an underrated singer and Sarah Vaughn once remarked I dig Doris Day
David Lee -- thank-you sweetie -- I know you appreciate Doris now - how could you not, with all the Doris music and movies I share with you !! I think Doris is Clark's dream girl...good choice ! Thanks sweetie xoxox
I love this song, and Doris Day in general, so much. Thank you for posting her songs. Do you happen to have her song "No"? I love it dearly and can't find any recordings of it since the one video got deleted.
I know - I feel the same way - I've never understood her feeling about the first one. But - she's the master - so I guess there was something she didn't like about it !! I love both !
Hi Toni! I though you did show already all DD images, but am surprised, how many you have. I enjoy them. I have many too, as well as her songs (more then 500). If you would like to get any from me, let me know. Nada
@waynebrasler Do you mean the version she recorded in 1964 ? I've read she thought she didn't do it justice in the 40's recording. But, don't you think Les Brown had the say on how the song would be ? I'm sure he made the decision as to it being an upbeat - energetic version.
Regarding the original, Doris with the band decided on her song interpretations. The issue here is not the song being arranged upbeat but her interpretation of the mood and lyric. For the 1964 version she recast the song with an undercurrent of slyness and found more in the chords. One reason among many Les Brown liked her is her singing approach was so direct, which was typical of her whole persona.
The other answer is right, bobby pins, curlers but also cloth strips & hot irons. My mother used all of the above to curl her's because they were straight as a board.
Nada -- I would love to have Moonlight Lover -so if you could send it to me I'd really appreciate it !! Thanks ---- and Thank-you for your kind comments !! Take care -- Toni
Gee - I never really thought about that before. I have no idea how they curled their hair in the 40's. That would be interesting. If you find out - let me know. Very Interesting !
Doris rerecorded this because she felt in the original she had missed subtleties in the chord progression that make the song more than a chirpy, saucy number. If you listen to the rerecording for the "Doris Day's Sentimental Journey" album you'll hear the difference. It's not that the original isn't terrific--she does so much with the song--it's just that the second version has an element of wisdom to it.
That was great!! What a beautiful woman and what a great voice!
Thanks Susan - she has one of the best voices ever --- glad you enjoyed !
Love all her work. She is amazing and still in my heart. I listen to her and it is like she is in the room.
