There's a lot of irony in that interview. For instance when he says "someone will throw a dagger at me and I'll die" and then the song played during the interview- Neon Nights was the one that was playing when the whiskey bottle was thrown from the audience that hit Geezer Butler that ended the show.
Awesome Ronnie James Dio Black Sabbath interview. I will always love Ronnie forever. He was such an incredibly powerful and magical singer/songwriter and person.
I have a vague recollection of this interview (I was 10yrs old at the time and had my WLPX rock and roll airforce wings!). I was a huge Dio/Sabbath fan and wished I was older so my parents would let me go to the show
I was at that show. I was 14 then and they kicked my ass. Blue Oyster Cult opened. "The Black And Blue Tour." I miss WLPX, 93QFM, and The Loop outta Chicago. Great radio stations in this area back then.
LPX was the weak sister of milw radio. #1 was ZMF 2 was QFM, LPX WAS A DISTANT THIRD. LPX had this bubble head Bobbin Mcbean, I think she was originally on QFM, I don't think this is her. Years later she was reincarnated in the form of a new and improved bubble head Marylyn something or other on a station called Lazar 103. I worked in the 80s with a guy who said he went to high school with Marylyn and her name was "Marylyn the idiot." I've got to think he might be telling me the truth.
Hey Eric thanks for your post above. Brings back fun memories of this era. My regret is that I first discovered ZMF the same week they shut down. I actually interviewed Bobbin as part of a project for a high school English class. I remember her as being very articulate and extremely knowledgable of her industry and rock music in general. She was also a very gracious host. Her on-air name was Bobbin Beam, and u-betcha, this is her. You're probably thinking of the station's evening host, Jim McBean. Bobbin has been doing voice talent for a number years now. You can check out her website at www.bobbinbeam.com. You probably remember that this was the Milwaukee concert that ended in a riot that tore up the Arena. I went to see Springsteen at the same venue a week later. Before the show someone announced to the crowd that at the first sign of cigarette lighters being lit the house lights would come up and the show would be over. Well, cigarette lighters did get lit and the house lights did come on, but in true Springsteen fashion he and the band came back on stage and in full house lights performed a rip-roarin' version of the Devil With The Blue Dress medley. Great memories.
