A company that tries to manipulate a raw material seller is more than likely manipulating the buyer of the refined product. Buy low, sell high is great but scamming the clientele is downright disgusting.
So we know hot shot drivers get nailed by their brokers, I can vouch that shipping agents/brokers will up-charge you if the wind blows too hard across the ocean.....and now we know brokers in the scrap trades can be evil. I'm beginning to wonder about the title Broker and what septic system it originated from.
Well explained buddy. I am always taken advantage of. I run myself and my small business ragged. It's nice to see someone able to stand up. Thanks. Love your videos and appreciate the time you put in on them.
Almost always. Lets see how 2025 plays out for you. ( For the record, I take huge chances on tenants and very often will get burned. Few people escape being taken advantage of ).
did you get in touch with the mill too and let upper management know that exactly what they said would never happen again did happen again? Would be interesting to hear their response or explanation.
Brokers are the bottom feeders of the earth. I have dealt with them for years in the trucking industry. Stand your ground, sir. A person's word is just that their word. If they can't keep it, then it's time to move on.
Good move. A loss of $20 per ton on 300 tons of material is $6,000 loss. Plus all of your future losses per ton. Is the person you talked to the owner? If you can, go higher up the chain of command.
I agree with you 100%.We had an instance several years ago that the buyer wanted to change the deal from what we agreed on.Then sent the contract. We haven’t dealt with him since and won’t deal with him in the future.People don’t think you can stack that material to the moon.It doesn’t take up much room.
This buyer did NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. For some reason BOTH OF THESE GUYS were afraid to SPEAK THE PRICE. You buy groceries and the price is on the can ,it never says go to the checkout and you will see that the price is 10% higher than last month.
People do these shenanigans in every business. The government isn't interested in prosecuting fraud because then they'd have to put themselves in jail.
Yes You did right! You can not deal with shady or lying companies. Keep looking, the right buyer will come. Yes our local scrap yard prices Change quickly as the market changes. That's the business. That's for being a good guy out there
I know someone who stacks so high that the clouds cover the tops of the piles. I always tell the little guy, the scrapper on the street to hold materials......by nature they never listen.
The everyday scrapper does not the luxury of holding their stash. Too many guys that I know in these parts are happy to off-load it whether they get paid or not. It's a futility in keeping unwanted baggage.
Cant stand a liar, especially twice. Id be calling all my friends in the business and telling them not to sell to him. Id say your on point with this one.
Same thing in Omaha I sold one legitimate catalytic converter to somebody I've known since 1983 he paid me $35 for a Mazda 3 precat I got another one complete exhaust from a buddy of mine two days later sold it to a different yard and they paid me $135
I agree it's about principal. Buyer business is trying to take advantage. I'm with you, I'd rather not sell to that business based off of the lies. Good at keeping your ground.
A yard I worked at had me separate the drums from the rotors. (Cast iron - prepared #1 steel). Is the price the same and that’s why you sell them together?
I've worked in the oilfields for over 35 years plugging wells and dismantling offshore platforms and I can look at steel and tell within a few thousand pounds of what it weighs.
Stand on your principles. In the end that is what your business is built on and that will make it prosper. The same will hold true for the broker. Lack of integrity on his part will take him down.
Good. Let them pound sand. Your industry is the odd one in which sellers always have the upper hand. There is an entertaining book on it and all the antics of when the Chinese emerged on the scene before 2008. I sorta recall the title was something about recycling.
Hmmm that’s interesting, the scrap metal recyclers in my area ( NW,Wa) tell me there’s no price difference between auto scrap steel and auto scrap cast iron that it all pays the same 🤔
Thus a lesson learned once a liar always liar I wish I 😂do business with you I deal with the same person Troy Schaefer for over 20 years like you very honest
Your reputation is what keeps you in business and strengthens your commitments with others in the business. This snake got what he deserved and word will soon get around how they treated you. Two strikes and you’re out! Never again!
I'm going to have to try that with a precious metal dealer... Don't think that will work.. 🤣 That guy is a theif. I wouldn't do business with him either.
I had someone do the same to me. I told him I'd give it away before I would let him take advantage of me. He said ok you give it away he would take it. I laughed. I told him I'm not giving it to you. It is principal.
Dam dude you couldn't put out a "Boring" video. 4 years ago how old were you when you started all this??? You are a young guy and know your stuff. I've said this in the past how you would be a great guy to work for. I'd do it in a heartbeat. In saying that if you have any interest in a worn out old truck mechanic hit me up. I think that I could commute or at least come home on the weekends. What do you think. I don't want to put out my address but I will say Have you ever heard of the CN Tower. Wait for a second I went from a say to a question all in the same sentence. Finally let me know when you want me to start and because you guys like the snow so much I will bring as much as I can. It's not going to be much but after a bit you will have a bit of a pile. Good thing it's not very far because I don't have any way to keep it cold. Just saying 👍. Seriously you are going places and I'm happy to have found your channel it's definitely a keeper. They say that the sky is the limit well whoever they are don't know you. Another just saying 😜👍🇨🇦🔧🥶
Shop your product to several buyer to get your best price when you're ready to sell and don't concern yourself with trends in the overall market. Different buyers have different needs and commitments to their up market buyers.... so you may get a better price from one buyer or another that needs to meet demand.
Once a cheater always a cheater. Thats definitely poor business practices. They're definitely going to be going out of business if they keep that up. Good on you for not buckling.
They should have a fixed price that everybody works from kind of like gold has the spot price and companies will buy and sell relative to that. Sounds like it would be easier than saying it went up last month and down this month so now we're at... let me do the math.
Be interesting to tell the story to the CEO of the mill. He may not know he’s got a weasel buying for him. Or he does and condones it. Sell to someone else if you have options. Be interesting for all the yards in your area to boycott the mill. No scrap =. No output!
Just use someone in your business as your broker, and they call the mill directly. Vertical integration of processes keeps more control and better bottom line.
Do like them Pakistan guys do the big truck drums they make a sand mold melt the old ones pour them in sand molds make new ones get a whole lot more for them watch video on how they do it
Great story and all that, but my assumption is this guy is not watching the metal market prices and letting the broker tell him how to run his business in the long run ..not the brokers fault.. he was getting shafted
It makes 100 % sense. Why would you allow your mill to try to f you from the front to rear & all around. Would any of you people down below? If I had the space, I would stack it up as well and sell elsewhere. Just a better buisness decision.
I for one appreciate you for standing on your principals.
A company that tries to manipulate a raw material seller is more than likely manipulating the buyer of the refined product. Buy low, sell high is great but scamming the clientele is downright disgusting.

Did you think of those first couple sentences on your own 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ wow !!!
Well explained buddy.
I am always taken advantage of. I run myself and my small business ragged. It's nice to see someone able to stand up. Thanks.

In every industry. Even bible brokers.
Broke
Nuff said
Brokers ruin any market they touch. Scam artist middlemen.
Snake’s in every business
It would b cool if u could do long length videos just found your channel really cool awesome job
This is a typical problem with trucking and load brokers. Good on you for sticking to your principals.
Good move. A loss of $20 per ton on 300 tons of material is $6,000 loss. Plus all of your future losses per ton. Is the person you talked to the owner? If you can, go higher up the chain of command.

THE RICH DONT CARE BOUT WATS RIGHT BUT ABOUT THEIR POKETS! I SUBBED! TY FOR DOING WATS RIGHT!
People do these shenanigans in every business. The government isn't interested in prosecuting fraud because then they'd have to put themselves in jail.
Yes
You did right! You can not deal with shady or lying companies. Keep looking, the right buyer will come. Yes our local scrap yard prices Change quickly as the market changes. That's the business. That's for being a good guy out there
It's a hard way to get money from scrapping anymore but I want to see him do well so good job on doing the good homework
And he probably cheats on his scale with you as well.
They go low, we stack higher
I know someone who stacks so high that the clouds cover the tops of the piles.
I always tell the little guy, the scrapper on the street to hold materials......by nature they never listen.
The everyday scrapper does not the luxury of holding their stash. Too many guys that I know in these parts are happy to off-load it whether they get paid or not. It's a futility in keeping unwanted baggage.
@@tommielee8 I sure wish they would sell off some of the things many of us could still use.
Not as easy as it sounds.
Have a great week, stay warm!
Cubic square footage is expensive.
Stack it to the sky Michael! It’ll eventually go up 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You should hit up a cast iron cookware manufacturer. The stuff they buy looks pretty much just like that mountain behind you.
The broker sold his integrity for only $4000 what a POS of a businessman or woman. 🤘♾️☮️♾️🇺🇸
What integrity, he never had any.
Easy enough to track steel prices on line and thru CME to know what its doing daily.
Cant stand a liar, especially twice. Id be calling all my friends in the business and telling them not to sell to him. Id say your on point with this one.
Well we have a couple scrap yards in Marion NC that will blatantly rip you off. It’s hard to find a yard that will treat you right.
Same thing in Omaha I sold one legitimate catalytic converter to somebody I've known since 1983 he paid me $35 for a Mazda 3 precat I got another one complete exhaust from a buddy of mine two days later sold it to a different yard and they paid me $135

What he said, "worry about how much they pay me per ton." That is correct, that's why you're not selling to him.
If I had to guess the destination mill is Nucor.
"There's principallities involved, Smokey!!! Playing wit my money is like playin wit my emotions!!!"
Big Worm
Welcome to life brother. It happens my man. Sorry you've had so many falling outs, maybe time to switch up people you sell to.
A yard I worked at had me separate the drums from the rotors. (Cast iron - prepared #1 steel). Is the price the same and that’s why you sell them together?
Ah ci pośrednicy wszędzie tacy sami 😊
You are 100 % right ! If they can't he honest I would never deap with them again !
I've worked in the oilfields for over 35 years plugging wells and dismantling offshore platforms and I can look at steel and tell within a few thousand pounds of what it weighs.
In Tampa they are only paying 2c a lbs for prepared steel
What scrapyard are you going to?
$12.00 for 100 lbs. in Pa.
Stand on your principles. In the end that is what your business is built on and that will make it prosper. The same will hold true for the broker. Lack of integrity on his part will take him down.
As ownership concentrates at the top, companies are able to squeeze both ends.
Good. Let them pound sand. Your industry is the odd one in which sellers always have the upper hand. There is an entertaining book on it and all the antics of when the Chinese emerged on the scene before 2008. I sorta recall the title was something about recycling.
Seller does not always have the "upper hand". Always the uneducated entitled trumptards. No wonder you clowns get grifted so easily.
A shame you had to go through all that. I hope you don't hold it against him for too long.
Simply stated, it is a commodity market.
So, broker issues. That sucks. It's the same beef truckers have. I thought you sold direct. The middle man will often try to make his cut sweeter.
That's called "The India Technique".
Buyer: “Let’s not fight and bicker over who killed who!”
Hmmm that’s interesting, the scrap metal recyclers in my area ( NW,Wa) tell me there’s no price difference between auto scrap steel and auto scrap cast iron that it all pays the same 🤔
Scrap cast in automotive will contain chromium, beryl, vanadium, all kinds of highly desirable ingredients.
Integrity in your business dealings is fundamental for long-term business relationships. Lack of it turns your business into a short-term endeavor.
Just out of principal❤😂😅
STAND YOUR GROUND !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay strong 👌
Thus a lesson learned once a liar always liar I wish I 😂do business with you I deal with the same person Troy Schaefer for over 20 years like you very honest
Ask him to supply the data, where did he get the lower Dec number ? In the aluminum business we follow the LME and Midwest spot.
Yep. How much are you getting for auto cast?
I absolutely hate dealing with people I don't trust and do my best to avoid them.
What is the scrap industry jargon for........Go pack sand Mr. Broker ?
Well done, and tHanks for telling us the story so we can learn.
around here we call that trying to waterhead you i admire that get the money straight first
Your reputation is what keeps you in business and strengthens your commitments with others in the business. This snake got what he deserved and word will soon get around how they treated you. Two strikes and you’re out! Never again!
Go to the top = owner...
Sounds like manager- worker is
Skimming the money.
Good for you bud I do the same thing on cat I hoard them til price goes up
Thanks for being you
I'm going to have to try that with a precious metal dealer... Don't think that will work.. 🤣
That guy is a theif. I wouldn't do business with him either.
what nucor or several star
It sounds like what insurance companies do.
It doesn't matter what the heck the market did last month or last century. The market price is the market price. It's crazy to work off the trend.
I had someone do the same to me. I told him I'd give it away before I would let him take advantage of me. He said ok you give it away he would take it. I laughed. I told him I'm not giving it to you. It is principal.
Effem... stack it up for later...especially if it doesn't hurt the bottom line too bad!!
Stick to your principals and never let the scammers win!

Made it here the day tiktok died.
Keep scraping brother!
Yes you can stack it..100% don't fall for bullies they need you more than you need them
Sometimes you just can't change stupid because it's too f****** greedy, weed em up brother
Shop your product to several buyer to get your best price when you're ready to sell and don't concern yourself with trends in the overall market. Different buyers have different needs and commitments to their up market buyers.... so you may get a better price from one buyer or another that needs to meet demand.
You should put a "lairs sur-charge" on any future dealings with that dealer.
But don't tell who the lair is to others, because they will sue you.
Spin it and win it is his idea... good catch... There will always be garbage (the other buyer)!
Once a cheater always a cheater. Thats definitely poor business practices. They're definitely going to be going out of business if they keep that up. Good on you for not buckling.
Call all your buddies back and ask them who’s “gonna get me the best price and you a referral bump?” Then go from there.
Well, he sure did an excellent job of proving to you that he was a lier and deceiver and quite obviously still is.
They should have a fixed price that everybody works from kind of like gold has the spot price and companies will buy and sell relative to that. Sounds like it would be easier than saying it went up last month and down this month so now we're at... let me do the math.

He knows. Trust me - he knows.
“He knows” is right.
Just use someone in your business as your broker, and they call the mill directly. Vertical integration of processes keeps more control and better bottom line.
Stick to your guns young man!
... Sooo, the "new" integrity is to apologize when you get caught lying, over and over...
Scrap here won’t pay the fuel to drive it to a yard. Pile it up and wait.
Sounds like you're dealing with the government
Lets hear the name of the mill bro!
Yep... Try to avoid the dishonest people in life.
Hope you get wat you wish for.
The steel mill was a gentlemen the whole date until they agreed to go back his place for a night cap. That's when things took a turn for the worse....
Sounds like trucking brokers
Don't worry will pay you the lowest possible and youll like it
smdh shady...smart move.
It makes 100 % sense. Why would you allow your mill to try to f you from the front to rear & all around. Would any of you people down below? If I had the space, I would stack it up as well and sell elsewhere. Just a better buisness decision.
Don't deal with brokers!
I love it when people vote with their feet
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Way to hold your ground! Trash, like the guy you were dealing with, should not be allowed to do business with anyone.
You give him discount if he buys it all.
Name the company that was dishonest like this, so we can know who not to do business with as well.
Let’s see the reciets. Just tell them that’s your pice and it’s final. You’re giving them wiggle room. They will take it
Just like a used car dealer. It is not what you buy it for, it is what you sell it for.
Do your due diligence avoid liars when you find them out.
Sometimes Mr Goldberg and Mr Goldstein fib a little.
Should have charged him 40 more a ton.
