This is a complete clockwise trip around the DPM loop, starting and ending at the Broadway station, viewed from the front window of a train. Recorded on 12 May 2017.
Sure changed a lot and for the better. When I rode it in the 80's: abandoned buildings galore then, particularly around Caddilac Square. Detroit now is a city with great potential, if the right people invest and move in.

All that scenery gave me the chills, it looked like some apocalyptic event had happened in the early 20th century at that place.
it goes right through the center of a building - that's pretty wild. And some of the stations have been built as a major architectural feature of the other buildings too.
Me too. I first went there in the 90's because I had a love of cars and wanted to see the Motor City. I try to get there every couple of years. Nice to see it finally improving.

I am from Ann Arbor/ Canton/ Traverse City....have been to downtown Detroit "MILLIONS" of times!! ...Sports, boat and car shows, hockey, Greek Town, Ice Capades, Hudson's, parades, Hart Plaza fireworks, Belle Isle, Boblo, Farmer's Market, boat races, Rooster Tail dining, plays, Carl's Chop House, concerts, Detroit Institute of Art, Fox Theater, Vernor's AND Stroh's beer tours, etc, etc...but NEVER on the People Mover!!.... What A WONDERFUL WONDERFUL video!!! ....Thank you!!!... First row seats and NO talking!!!.... I LOVE it!!! ....It made me "feel" like I have now "ridden it"....lol...Thank you again!!!!.....(I also LOVE LOVE LOVE RUclips!!!!)

There's a lot more to the city of Detroit than a couple blocks of downtown. As of May 2023, there are 1,980 homes for sale in Detroit for $5,000 or less. One of the challenges facing the city of Detroit is they did not have enough money to tear down all of the abandoned buildings in the city and return the land to mother nature. At one point, they were considering walling off and abandoning entire sections of the city because they couldn't provide basic services like fire, ambulance and police protection.
After seeing so many horror videos about Detroit's slums, I have to admit, downtown Detroit looks alot nicer than I thought it would! I've seen much worse looking cities in the USA! Maybe it looks worse down at street level, but from this train it looks pretty nice!
there are two detroits. the slums/neighborhoods and the core neighborhoods/downtown. basically the core neighborhoods of downtown, midtown, corktown and layfayette are similar to any major us city. it is the outer 80 percent of the city that looks like a major war zone followed by abandonment.
Hearing Japanese in the background is a nice touch. They got off at Michigan Ave station, LOL. Detroit looks really deserted but basically clean. Downtown Miami has one of these conductor-less people movers, generally more crowded.
Oh the memories. Picking up books from comics oasis in trappers alley, going to various events at the joe and cobo, hanging out at ren cen... I spent a good chunk of my teenage years riding in a big ass circle cause I thought it looked cool lol
Oooh you took me back.. The Freedom Festivals.. Cobo Hall, Ford Auditorium, Hart Plaza, The Renaissance Center then off to Trappers Alley to eat and check out Harmony House then the Fudgery.. Back to the car to ride up Jefferson around Belle-Isle to the strip.. Mary-Jane time.. Continue off the strip around the rest of the Island back across the 🌉 bridge up Jefferson the opposite way back toward Downtown..😊Happy Days.. It was a car and fashion show every weekend and on every B.B.Q. Holiday Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day for sure.. And after Downtown and Belle-Isle and riding Jefferson, we would ride through the City to Rouge-Park to complete the day and close out the evening before heading 🏡 home.. Ahh the memories.. ( sorry for the long response).. I went there😂..
It was supposed to be the size of the Chicago fast transit system but budget cuts caused it to be much smaller. Hopefully someday it will be as large as the Chicago L.
Its like the SkyTrain's long lost sibling. One of them became an icon and changed constantly the other became almost forgotten but preserved in its original state
I visited Detroit on business many times in the Seventies and Eighties, staying at the Cadillac and later RenCen. It wasn’t Club Med, but neither was it a crime-ridden hellhole. Reasonable street smarts required, but where aren’t they? Current situation, couldn’t say.
Please come back. I live downtown. You would be blown away by the amount of construction. Too many projects to list. Development is now spreading west and north. Long way to go but definitely happening. The Book Cadillac is open again and looks amazing.
Is that Welcome to Greek-town above what used to be my favorite hamburger and french fry fast-food chain a Five Guys restaurant while the monorail approaches the Greek-town station?
Detroit core along with other Midwestern/ Eastern cities that declined through most the last decades ( white flight) are going through a reinvestment and genification. They look great because many of them still have the awesome early 19th century American architecture mixed in with sky rises and modern buildings, Cincinnati is another example of Detroit's gentrification with many 19th centruy building.

I left in 82' so here a few observations. I counted a total of 8 passengers getting on this thing. How much does it cost to run?? I never heard of any areas of Detroit referred to as the "financial"district or Broadway or Times Square. Never. How many of the buildings downtown are vacant? Where are all the people? I drove to Detroit in my car during a weekday (in the 1980s) and parked on the street in the "financial district" It was the only time I can remember when I got spooked because there was absolutely nobody on the streets in the middle of the afternoon, so I turned around and got back in my car and left.
You would be pretty miffed if you wanted to go one stop but in the opposite direction to the train. Imagine having to go all the way round the loop just to go one stop. Probably better off just walking. I was expecting Detroit to be a dump but it actually looks quite modern, clean and tidy.
Such an odd looking city. There aer so many parking lots, so many highways, but really no pedestrians and not much in the way of storefronts on the street level.
This isn’t meant to be a criticism as I am aware that Detroit is coming back, but a few years ago I was at tiger stadium and there was a banging sound echoing through the entire area. When I asked what that was, everyone around me said “the people mover”. What about this could make so much noise?

@C caymer Detroit (and suburbs) doesn't have subways or the like. Detroit's biggest problem is the lack of public transportation. The People Mover goes on a circuit. Other than that, there are buses that don't usually run on time and taxis. (Maybe Uber, etc., now, as well.)

Its wierd seeing ICTS with single track.... None of the ICTS on Skytrain is single track... One short section of Canada line (which moves with Traditional electric 3 rail traction motors instead of the Linear Induction tech used by DPM, Expo Line and Millennium Line is single track but it's not long at all. I'm not from Vancouver myself but I have family who lives there so every time I go visit I try to at least use Skytrain to get to somewhere. Does DPM always go clockwise? or do they have Counter Clockwise runs too? I saw something about a siding system that allows for trains to run in the opposite direction. Its funny watching these old Mark 1 2 car trains when your used to seeing ICTS Mark 2 and Mark 3 more commonly.
Kevin Howard One other thing. I use it everyday. January --- June 2018 ridership numbers are up 72% and above projections. The only time I dont ride it is on game nights when It's too crowded.

Part of the reason Detroit city was named to that list was that you can (or could) buy a single family house for $5,000. Now that is affordable housing!

Downtown is being rebuilt slowly but surely and is actually okay. The videos you are referring to are a 5 minute car ride away.

The Detroit people mover is also like the Miami Dade Transit Elevated train and it also doesn't go underground.
This people mover in Detroit apparently doesn't even go underground like the Washington DC Metro. It's somewhat like the Chicago 'EL' train.

Ace Detroit uses the same train technology as Toronto and Vancouver. That's why the chimes sound the same.
