Our bad! We accidentally called the Luger Pistol a "Revolver" - there is no revolver version of the Luger. Thanks to all the fans for pointing this out!
UCzDwella201 well it officially ended on November 11th, 1918 so yes, you are right, the film it set in 1917, 103 years ago. The war ended 102 years ago. Just for accuracy :) God bless you
“They surrendered and one of the German troops handed over his Luger revolver..” interesting considering Luger never made a revolver lol c’mon watchmojo get your basics straight
I saw this movie at the TCL Chinese Theater premier, Sam Mendes and some of the cast were in attendance. Sam Mendes gave a speech before the start of the film and told us his grandfather’s story and about how his grandfather constantly washed his hands as he tried to clean his hands from the mud in the trenches he could never seem to clean off throughout his life.
No, it means it's based on or inspired by true events, but doesn't strictly adhere to historical fact. She worded it a little confusingly, but she was right. It's a "true" story based on actual events, but with some artistic license taken. I hope that helps, and/or i hope you weren't just being a pedantic troll.
If you were the general, wouldn't you send 10 or 12 pairs of runners to deliver the message? I mean you wouldn't even need to tell them about each other. That way, you'd increase your odds of one or 2 of the groups getting through.
I definitely agree with the number one pick-- Tony Soprano. Now I think his crew deserve a honorable mention, especially his uncle Junior. I was disappointed that The Crypt Keeper didn't make the list at all. To me, that character STILL stands out for me especially his laugh. Oh, well I can't complain too much because many of those on the list needed to be there.
Alfred Mendes married in October 1919, and had a son, Alfred John, the following year. His first wife, Jessie Rodriguez, died of pneumonia after only two years of marriage. A second marriage, a year later, ended in divorce in 1938. His third wife was Ellen Perachini, mother of his last two sons, James Peter and Stephen Michael. He is the grandfather of film director Sam Mendes, whose 2019 film 1917 is inspired by Alfred's First World War stories
This is not the truth... Where are the Black Female German Soldier with a prosthetic hand? Wheres are the prototype weapons where the character conviently finds alot of them.
The day after the movie ended the Canadians took Vimy Ridge. Then they took Passchendaele six months later and then the Hindenburg Line a year after that.
Going to see it tonight. In Sussex by the sea. I respect what they did with this story, how they went about it and how they made it happen. This is a subject worthy of great respect. I think this is their attempt, if for commercial gain. I spent many years working in the area of the Somme etc. 'Lest we forget.'
It seems that the anti-war genre is truly dead, never again would see something like the All Quiet on the Western Front, now at days is milk toast messages about bravery and loyalty, but not how brutal the war was, and how many people lives were wasted in that war. Dunkerque have the same problem, sanitise the war and glorified the acts of the soldiers, never actually show the human cost of war.
Rebecca, I really must compliment you on your near mastery of pronunciation in this video. I am a major history nerd & I cannot pronounce these well-known to me foreign words/names like you can, specifically your mastery of Ypres. Furthermore, I have seen actual historians who would not stand a chance at beating you either. Cheers, James
My grandfather, then-Corporal Raymond Mills, fought in World War I from 1917 through 1918 and was wounded in the Second Battle of the Somme in 1918. The idea of "1917" resonates with me. I'll try to see it.
Watch mojo sucks it literally did 2 videos saying "things family Guy views hated" and then had the same thing in both videos maybe if watch mojo was seen a lot somebody should make them a hated video. I'm not a internet jerk but come oh it's terrible watch mojo.
This would never happen because everything was connected by trenches so there would be no need for such an adventure like this. They could have just followed the trench line

I heard this movie is a modern masterpiece
the filming and atmosphere is off the chart and for the acting its pretty up there IMO
I don’t understand why there are dislikes on this ?
Maybe somebody was turned off by the mention of a "Lugar revolver."
Or the horrendous vocal fry of the narrator.
