This young man is looking out for the best interest of the athletes who have so often been taken advantage of by team owners and leagues. The ones who do all the hard work putting their bodies through the rigors of athleticism with injuries and so on while owners/leagues run the show. It is wonderful to see someone there to protect and look out for them. Thank you, young man! ❤

Kind of their job wouldn’t you agree? Not being clever but how would anyone benefit from an agent who is siding with the team and not the athlete? They are the first line of defense and have clearance to operate and move within any facility or building their client is in. Agents are literally power of attorneys for most pro athletes, they have a shared interest for mutual benefit and the “player” is basically saying wherever my agent is I am and he speaks for me. Good business begets good clients which in turn become friends. Rich is a heartwarming story but the real test will be when lebron retires. Scott Boras is a prime example of an entire league of owners who dread talking with him when negotiations begin. Btw, I speak only as someone who works with attorneys in contractual law mitigation (mainly predatory loans issued to individuals with no credit but have decent disposable income) and it gets dirty even at the lower levels, especially if an agent isn’t involved. Banks, credit card companies, mtg companies ,car finance companies, all want a piece of the pie.

  • @Itshotaf

I’m glad he said “when it was someone that didn’t look like me, it was genius. It was why you get a power agent, but when it’s me, I’m destroying the league?” Right there. 👏

@@HappyYankeeFanYour question is fair. I think culturally for “us” we value virtues like righteousness, justice, fairness etc., and we recognize that many of the barriers that exists in our system are based on racists propaganda designed to shape public opinion against Black folk - particularly men. So of course we will be happy when prominent Blacks identify this propaganda and double standards and speak out against it for all to see. Our “happiness” isn’t always tied to our own “personal[]” benefit its tied to principle and people that extend beyond our own individual horizons.

What this proves to me is that, Rich Paul got his street knowledge, which is better than some colleges and use it to his advantage. I came from the streets and I was a Vice President, CFO, am a CPA, Finra Arbitrator, Insurance agent and I have other licenses. I got my instincts from the streets. I am also a college graduate. Thanks to the Streets. I had a lot of fun too.

Can't speak on it bruh, but maybe smart is smart and nothing to do with the "streets"? What it does prove though is that you can't count out folks from the "streets" just on account of background. I didn't hear him give God the glory. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, belongs to God. If you succeed, give God the glory. You are alive because of his grace and mercy. Every breath belongs to him.

I know agents and let me tell you, Rich is a breath of fresh air.
His character got him to where he is.
    Then his business savvy.
    In that order.
Many agents don’t even need much character.
    They sill get business.

His blueprint is, to surround himself with up and coming successful people. Not sure that's very original, but he must be doing something right. At this point his agency is so influential, he can negotatiate certain contracts just because the team GMs know, they have to be at peace with him or they are gonna have consequences in other deals.

I am happy for him. I pray he gives back to those who are in the same position he used to be when he was young.
I pray he teaches them how to be a victor not a victim!
