    No, the A320 does not have nose wheel brakes, although the Boeing 727 did, at least originally. The reason the parking brake is released after chocking the main wheels is to relieve any lateral stress from the nose gear before jacking. This stress can be caused by setting the parking brakes (on main gear wheels) when the airplane stops, particularly if one engine is still running. With the brakes set and the nose tires unable to move sideways, the stress could move the strut laterally as the jack lifts the tires off the ground, causing the jack to fall over. After landing, the parking brake is usually released as soon as the chocks are installed, to prevent hot brake discs from sticking together. Even if the brakes are cool, it is good practice to release and reset the parking brakes after the chocks are installed, to remove stress from the gear.

    Forgot to set the parking breaks & the left side wheel had a low psi which reads 55 psi & the other readings where at 60 psi on the computer !!!! But I'm getting my A&P soon but short videos like these are great for learning & they do help.

    I'm pretty sure that you should set the parking brake outside on the ramp. But you don't set the parking brake inside a hangar though. Besides, the video showed the guy releasing the brake on an aircraft. It fails to mention that he should be setting the park brake if he released it in the first place......

    i saw the other video with the rear wheel, and it made sense, since they needed to rotate the wheel, but the front wheel has no brakes anyway

    For everyone commenting about using a torque wrench to loosen the nut, remember he has to measure and record the torque of the nut for the maintenance records

    • @marjan8888
      @marjan8888 8 лет назад

      +Fred Hankes no you don't,you back off the nut after the first toque setting,then you re-torque it to a lower value

    Brakes are kept off even though Nose Wheel doesn't have the brakes. The reason is during jacking the nose wheel, the plane is lifted at front creates arotational movement of the aircraft , fulcrum being at Main wheels. Main wheels may rotate a bit and if the brakes are on it will resist the main wheel movement.

  • @Tjita1

    @Stingercam21 I do indeed. Although I never finished my practical training and thus never became a licensed EASA Part 66 technician, I have done all the exercises in school, including the paperwork. Never changed a wheel on something this big though, but we did it on a Fokker F27 once, and multiple times on a Cessna 150, a Scottish Aviation Bulldog, and on a Saab 105 (Sk60 in Sweden). Think i did it on a Piper PA-27 once too, for a brake job... Nevertheless, 30 minute job = 30+ minutes paperwork

  • @Juppie902
    @Juppie902 12 лет назад

    huh what does the circuit breaker panel at the beginning has to do with anything ?
    tire pressure has something to do with electricity ... ?

    • @Aerodave11
      @Aerodave11 4 года назад

      Yes every parameter is monitored to give indication on the cockpit and the info goes electrically hence CB pulled when working on the system as standard good practice. In this case tyre pressure, for main wheels tyre px and also brake temperature.

    Why parking brake yo be off as there's no braking system on nose wheel assembly 😂.

  • @johnwolf9319
    @johnwolf9319 8 лет назад

    Good way of putting out your eye - you never remove the Schrader valve stem (valve stem) - you remove the entire Schrader valve assembly with a 1/2 inch socket set and let it bleed down. If you remove just the stem, it is easy for the tire pressure to blow the stem back into the mechanic's face.

    I've always been curious. .."how do you steer the aircraft when landing gear is down "???????..

    • @dougvanderhoop8012
      @dougvanderhoop8012 7 лет назад

      Rudder at high speed, then as the aircraft slows the rudder peddles provide up to approximately 6° of nose wheel steering then a hand crank operated on either side by captain or copilot provides input to hydrolic steering actuators capable of approximately 30-35° turn.

  • @dropmech

    WRONG! Two things that jumped out as being incorrect procedure. 1- he used the torque wrench to loosen the axle nut. That's a no-no. 2- he doesn't have gloves on. While that axle grease probably isn't that toxic, it still has chemicals in it. Shame on you for posting this up in a public forum.

    It's not 'Landing Gear,' it's known as undercart or 'Gear'. Planes don't just land...they take off too and they taxi around the airport....so 'Landing Gear' name is not representative.

    • @dougvanderhoop8012
      @dougvanderhoop8012 7 лет назад
