New Zealand real estate agents are not great in our experience. First one quoted a high estimate and with all promises made confidently asked us to pay $1000 for online advertising. Then on day of review at the office with his director, we were told to sell at $85k reduction in price!! We refused and got a smaller company agent who sold it within 3 weeks. The second one told us she won’t take our offer to her seller as she doesn’t believe we will get our property sold. We sold it in 3 weeks and her response was she won’t accept offer within 2 weeks (!??!). We have no faith in our estate agents.

We bought our first home this year and we dealt with 2 different real estate companies and I have lost all trust in real estate agents. There must be good ones out there but these bad apples are giving them a bad name. We tried a 3rd one and noped out of that one real quick.

In New Zealand you are more protected when buying a car.
We are currently looking at real estate to buy and the standard is shockingly poor - everyone has been misleading, hiding and lying so far.
Real estate agents play dumb and point the finger at the sellers.

As a vendor, you just have to assume all these RE agents are dodgy and acting primarily for their own interest to get their commission . So be careful when dealing with them. 😅

My folks sold a house through an agent they knew. He told them to accept an offer that was $100k less than what it was worth (my folks were new to the country so not aware of conditional vs unconditional) because he wanted to guarantee that he got the sale, and then find someone else to buy at a better price. Only thing was it was his boss that put in the offer from his daughter and instructed my folks to make it unconditional... not knowing it was the boss' daughter and because it was the agents boss they listened and accept the offer as unconditional.

Make a complaint that’s highly unethical and an open and shut case

I stopped going to auctions because of agents under quoting at open homes. Spent over a grand on DD only for it to go about $60k over what I expected which was the reserve. Scumbags just after more bodies in the room.

Gets up your goat? The correct expression is ‘gets on your goat’. In any case, I wouldn’t like to be your goat.
