One thing I have really noticed, after watching zillions of videos of climbing on YT in lockdown, is that I have almost zero benefit from watching people project V12-V15 boulders. All those guys are great but it's watching the unobtainable for me. I think the greatest benefit for the V3-5 level climbers is watching someone have a crack at V5-7 problems, and then given advice on beta by a coach or route-setter and then go onto finish them. It gives you exposure to seeing boulder problems that you will encounter and help visualise solutions.

Glad to know you like this kind of videos man! Videos like this generally don't perform as well on RUclips, it's comments like yours that motivates me to continue making videos like this!

@@GeekClimber I think that just because videos don't generate as many clicks doesn't directly correlate to how informative they are. I hope you can find a balance of clickable videos against ones that help us climb better. This is your mission.. ;-)

Thanks for the video. Watching this actually reminded me of something Rockentry had brought up in one of his videos, and I think it's something we take for granted as viewers! Specifically, it was when you mentioned how although you had climbed majority of these problems, you were waiting for an opportunity to actually re-climb them to get better angles (he's brought it up as well). I think we sometimes forget just how much work you all put into these videos, especially when it comes to beta break downs. So with that, I truly mean it when I say thanks for all you do! Even if the video isn't quite as what you wanted, I think the concept and intention are really well appreciated. I actually really enjoyed it when you even paused to let us look at a problem (well, I also paused the video lol) just to see if I could figure out the beta. A lot of us can't climb right now so it's always nice to get a bit of content. Any ways, I wanted to mention that because the effort does not go unnoticed.
Asides from that, I think it's really great to see you progress to this point (if you don't mind me asking, roughly what grade are you at these days?). I just remember some time ago, you mentioned how you were at a V5 plateau for quite awhile, so thinking back to that, to you basically clearing all the problems at your gym...your progress is very inspiring and reassuring to see.
Any ways, don't mean to make this so long. Just wanted to say thanks and congrats on your progress. Cheers and stay safe!

Comments like yours is what motivates me to continue making videos like this even though it doesn't draw a lot of views like my other kinds of videos! To answer your question, I've climbed a few V7s but I felt most comfortable climbing V6s now. Stay safe too and hopefully the gyms will reopen up soon!

@@GeekClimber just came across this video today. The part about filming and refilming different angles and doing the move over and over again the right way and wrong way really hits home. I'm sure every filming genre experiences some form of this but especially for us amateur climbers you need to film doing moves that slowly tire you out over and over, and then sometimes it's even kind of hard to do moves the WRONG way, just to demonstrate a bad example, and then there's re-takes because someone's in your frame (like that guy in the front of your first problem or the guy who waited for you to traverse on the blue v5). I started making my own climbing teaching videos and it has been so much more work than I bargained for haha. I hope you stay motivated for a long time, I appreciate your candor and hard work, you are one of my top inspirations that made me start my own vids!

Hey bud, good to see you making these videos during quarantine. Quick note about the dyno though, and this is of course based solely on my experience and what I've learned from it, you want to avoid bending or tucking the legs during a dyno. This is especially true for dynos on overhangs or roofs. It may seem like you are elevating your center of gravity, but really you're making your body feel heavier and sometimes, the swing will feel much more volatile. My rule has always been to not fight the swing. Pull up and hit the mark with engaged arms to alleviate pressure and let your legs swing while arching your back. Then once the swing reaches it's apex, tighten your core and bring your legs back onto the wall. The "secret" to holding a swing on your dyno is core engagement.

    • @GeekClimber

Hey Peter, thanks a lot for the input. Dyno is one of my weaknesses in climbing. When the pandemic is over, it will be pretty cool if we can shoot a video together and have you teach me and the viewers the techniques of dyno.

On the blue V6 @5:35, could you have backstepped your right foot, flagged left, and locked off the left arm instead of throwing for the hold? I’m curious because I cannot see the foothold on that side/don’t often throw for holds.

I guess this is really for climbers but I came to see you climb and didn't understand 80% of what you were saying so the timing of the jump cuts were very annoying. As if you were trying to teach something and thought it didnt matter if people really got to see as long as you finished explaining it.
