When seeing her live you can't help but wonder how all that sound comes from such a small lady. She is absolutely incredible.
The BEST ever!!!
Her greatest song is “Independence Day.” I remember back when she signed autographs at a tire store in my hometown.
Her live vesrion of Over the Rainbow from the Martina album is her best song, the best female performance ever!!!
I have heard her live when I was stationed in Fort Campbell. She can blow out speakers with that voice! Also, I enjoy the fact that you can hit those high notes!
She does a song called “Anyway” that’s just amazingly well done.
She is the best female singer in modern country music. She has so many monstrous live performances.
That depends if you count Alison Krauss as a modern country music performer.
@@craenor or you could appreciate both of their styles. Alison Krauss is Blue Grass and amazing!
@@rena6895 It was roy who started with "the best"
She is the BEST singer Period!!!
And it could have been even more but she was dedicated to her family.
Her rendition of God Bless America after 9/11 was the best I ever heard.
I saw her in concert. She's a little bitty thing but she could blow the roof off the arena. There are very few voices like hers.
Agreed. Her and Pat Benatar...tiny ladies, blow the roofs off everywhere!!🔊🎶🎤🌬🔥💜😁🗯
The only other female country singer that can rival her power is Jennifer Nettles.
@@volo1826 negative
@@volo1826 how about Carrie Underwood. Her performance of How Great Art Thou gave me chills.
Yep. They toned her voice down in the mix on her recordings. Seeing her live, her voice would just explode with intensity, all completely under control and nuanced with feeling. Just one of the best singers I've ever heard. Unbelievably good.
I love watching your face while you are listening. Your love of good music is so obvious. Keep 'em coming!
😊💖Agreed!👍👍
I'm sure your research turned up that she won Female Vocalist of the Year, many years in a row. You need to treat yourself to her song, A Broken Wing. She hits the last note in the song, hard, and carries it into the next day.
Yes yes yes
Agreed!!!!🥰😎❣❣❣👏👏👏
You beat me to it, that is one of her best.
Another song I love is “When God Fearin’ Women Get the Blues”
@@stevemoore9984 heck yeah!
I've seen Martina several times live, from before her first album debut...
She's Never, Ever missed a note in any performance I've seen with my own eyes and heard with my own ears. She was always phenomenal!
The lady with the deepest blue eyes ever, swoon. One of my favorite female country artists.
Can you name a few more favorites? I liked her so I'm looking forward to get to know more good country singers.
She is a huge Pat Benatar fan & they have sung together, which is fantastic! I saw Martina live - she gives what you think is all & suddenly goes beyond that point so it takes your breath away! She’s amazing!
Martina is one of my favorite country artists. “Independence Day” you should also check out. She’s fantastic!!! She gives me chills when I hear her sing.
Yes, when that song came out… wow! What an impression she made! And the subject is definitely not what you might think based on the song title. But when I think of her, that is still the song that first comes to mind.
I agree with checking out "Indepedance Day". It's always been my personal favorite song of hers.
Oooooh, that is a good song! I think that was the first Martina McBride song I ever heard in high school.
Same Here! She is absolutely incredible!! And has brought me to tears so many times
Yes -- you should review "Independence Day" -- one of the best choruses !
I love Martina! She’s a Kansas girl!
She sure is. She used to work at the Dairy Queen!
She is one of my all time favorite female country vocalists!
Absolutely amazing vocalist in her power, her range, and also the subtlety she can bring as well. She can belt out the high notes and still give delicate expression. Incredible.
Where Would You Be - This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers , just beautiful and powerful and haunting and lovely, very romantic to boot , Yeah Martina McBride !
Saw her in 1998 at an open air venue, she sat on the edge of the stage, put down her mic and started singing Whatever You Say and we heard her clearly in the nosebleed seats. Most amazing show I ever went to.
Your expertise always makes me hear things ive never noticed
Martina is well known in the USA. Thank you for pointing out her range and quality. I will pay closer attention next time.
Being a rock guy most of my life this lady got me into country her voice is one of a kind because of you I hope she gains more fans in the UK thank you for showcasing this amazing singer!
I absolutely LOVE Martina McBride ❤️ Concrete Angel, Broken Wing and Independence Day are some of my favorites!
Shes one of the best vocalist I've ever heard. Love Martina she's amazeing.
She IS the BEST!!!!!!
She is the best!!!!
Martina's voice is a force of nature. Another great song of hers is Broken Wing. Thanks for highlighting her incredible voice
I heard Martina McBride about 15 years ago at a free concert she gave at Lone Star Park, a horse track in Grand Prairie Texas. May have been further back than that. She sounded wonderful live. Very nice lady, beautiful, and very very nice.
Martina is the best singer I've heard live. It was a rainy show in a 30k capacity outdoor venue and only like 3 or 4 thousand people showed up, everyone got seats under the pavilion. I was working security and she just crushed it for 2 hours.
My favorite, she's awesome, truly!!
I discovered Martina McBride back in 1995 when CMT was still on in the UK. I discovered a whole load of fantastic new music through that channel. I saw Martina live in Manchester the following year. Absolutely fantastic!
Concrete Angel and Independence Day are also songs that give me goosebumps. Thanks for giving Martina her dues.....
Martia McBride is a great singer one of my favorites.
That's my girl Martina! What a great performance, have always loved ya, you are a great singer and a beautiful woman.
Martina has been my favorite country singer for decades, hope that more people get hip to her with your help. I love country singers who can flat out sing.
Oh, man! Martina is amazing!
One of my very favorite singers! "Whatever You Say" is such a good song.
Been in love with Martina since the early 90's. Love those women that really belt out a tune. Plus she is easy on the eyes.
I love Martina. I went 600 miles to see her at the Ryman on Valentine's Day with the Nashville orchestra. As far as huge artists in one country and not another. It's America's SHAME that Slade never broke here. One of the best bands ever. Thankfully, I bought Slayed when it was released and was hooked for life.
I"m in America and love Slade! Although I found them because I grew up in the era when Quiet Riot covered their songs, then later found the originals which were so much better!
Martina’s voice is second to none in country music. I have seen her live, she is amazing!
1993. Where I used to have a heart.... oh I would sing it over n over trying to hit every note with her, she’s a gem❤️
Her song Wrong Again literally kept me going as I was going through a divorce. I'll always be grateful for that song!
Not gonna lie, I've been waiting on your analysis of Martina. She has been a stellar vocalist for a long time. Thank you my friend.
She deserves more recognition than given in the US as well. Thanks for all you taught me, the not so musically inclined!
Beautiful classic voice- very reminiscent of a young Linda Ronstadt- love Martina McBride! “Independence Day” is a kick-ass song!
I loved your smiles while you were listening to Martina singing.
Whoa! No wonder her voice jumps out of the car radio and makes me stop on the 'country music' station! Loved your demonstration!
Love Martina McBride! She has a beautiful voice. Love a lot of her songs!
Whoa - maintaining that volume in her upper range does get one's attention.
I think you have said several times earlier that alot of country music doesn't make it "across the pond".
I want to see her Christmas tour. She sings the best rendition of O Holy Night, that I've ever heard. And I'm a huge Elvis fan.
Some other huge female country artists you may not know but want to check out are Patty Loveless, Suzy Bogguss (especially), Pam Tillis, and Tanya Tucker.
.......Sara Evans, Wynnona Judd, Jo Dee Messina, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood.
Suzy’s wine down Wednesdays are great’ from an auld eejit Fils side the pond
Martina has a great album titled, Timeless. It covers classic country songs. It’s my personal favorite of mine.
I still play that one, excellent recording as well!
This is my favorite song of hers!!! THANK YOU!!!! Number two is Somewhere over the rainbow ...LiVE...
I've loved her for 20 yrs. Lol. Powerhouse!!!😉🥰⚡⭐♨️Glad u covered her, thanks for reminding me. Pure voice & emotion, gives me chills every time 🦄💕💛🧡🎶Another great old country voice...Jo Dee Messina, Burn.
Yup- she is as good live as in the studio. We saw her live several years ago and couldn’t believe the sound and pitch control in what was certainly a very basic sound system for a small outdoor venue.
…and I have a strong dislike for all the auto tuned garbage out there which lowers the bar for people who want to be “professional” singers. She’s legit!
Her husband is her sound engineer in concert!!!
Now you got to treat yourself to the true Matina McBride....*Independence Day* Or *Broken Wing* . Give them a listen. You deserve it
I love listening to her music. Another country singer who has a powerful is Ronnie Milsap.
She’s my favorite all time female country singer. My wife and I sang a duet of “I was born to give my love to you” 25 years ago for our wedding as my lovely wife walked down the isle.
I have all her albums and have seen her in concert so many times over the years. Not only does she have a powerful voice, but give a listen to some of her softer stuff. She has a beautiful voice, and is by far one of my favorite artists in any genre. Thanks for this analysis, Fil👍
She has such a powerful instrument that her voice amazes on every note.
Someone once said she has the best pipes in the business.
Thank you for your generosity to this great singer.
Seeing her live is phenominal!!!!! She is better LIVE, than on records!!!! Her 'Emotion" album is awesome!!!
I love the same powerhouse performances that everyone else does (Independence Day, A Broken Wing, Concrete Angel, etc.), but I also like when she shows a sense of humour and fun positivity (My Baby Loves Me, I Love You, When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues), and her fire-em-up bangers (Reckless, Life #9, Ride). She can pull off inspirational without being preachy, and some days that just hits right, even for those of us that don't ascribe to religion.
Edited for truly atrocious autocorrect goofs. 😁
I live in Arkansas ,USA ,where country music is a big deal. and I never took time to listening to
M Mbride , but, now that I hear how awesome she is I will wll be searching her out to enjoy more.
Thank yoU.
£
God, I enjoy videos like this so much. She's such a talent and hearing it isolated and seeing the waveforms.. something so special about that.
One of my favs. I like her song “With a Broken Wing”.
Hey Fil, she is fantastic. I’ve always loved her voice ❤️….oh and I’m from the U.K. 👍🏽
I am VERY picky with my Christmas music, listening mostly to Josh Groban and Karen Carpenter, with Bing Crosby and Mel Torme to bring back the good old days, but I ran across Martina’s of O Holy Night a few years ago and it is spectacular. The best version I’ve ever heard.
I just had to check it out as Karen Carpenter is my favourite! Wow I love Martina’s version of O holy night! Thank you for bringing that into my life!
I'm picky when it comes to Christmas music. I like Martina's album.
I would suggest Tarja Turunen's "From Spirits and Ghosts (Score For A Dark Christmas)". As the name says, it has a darker mood and sound, but it's a more serious take on Christmas, and is the most pure album from a "what is Christmas?" perspective. And her voice is as good as it gets.
Yes!
But no, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, or John Denver ?
Also, her version of Silent Night!!!!
OMG!!! I totally agree - how have you never heard of Martina McBride before!!!!??? One of THE BEST voices in country music. bar none!!!! Welcome to her world!!!! (One of her best, in my opinion, is the album "Evolution" - every single song is a work of art.....
you said it yourself - COUNTRY music. They don't have the genre over there. It's mostly US - some Canada (Shania, Terri Clark). What Brit? About the closest is Olivia Newton John's early days, close to 50 years ago, and when she was over here.
I saw her years ago with Clay Walker opening, she was outstanding. He put on a hell of a show too.
What we fans of hers know...she has the pipes!! She was still pretty underrated for female vocalists of her time. Still she's one of the best. Never seen one of your reactions before...this was pretty cool, me being kind of into the geeky things...lol, yes that's a compliment.
My fav is Independence Day, what a song.
I mixed a show, part of a broadcast series, me mixing for the audience and recording people mixing to recording and broadcast, with Martina in the early 90’s. She was funny, down-to-earth, in charge of her situation and a great singer. A treat.
Was watching some of your recent reviews and thought "has he reviewed Martina Mcbride?" Did a search and found this video, the power in her voice is amazing, she's an amazing voice. She got her start selling Tshirts for Garth Brooks at his concerts
I JUST FOUND YOU TODAY, December 27th, 2023!! Your analysis are amazing! PS. I am an old lady but, I MUST say your smile is intoxicating!! Your voice too!!❤
😍 I hadn't heard this one before & WOW! I can FEEEEL every word she's singing! Even WITH all the stop & go Martina keeps tugging on my tear ducts! Her delivery is not only ACES, it's also HEARTFELT & SOUL-FULL! Thank you for sharing Fil!🤗💖
The voice monitor ("The lines DON'T lie") and your analysis only proves that my love and appreciation of her powerhouse voice was not without justification! I'm so sorry you've only just discovered her, but please give a listen to "Independence Day", "Concrete Angel" and/or "A Broken Wing." She is amazing and debuted before auto-tune. Great singer/song choice, analysis and education (as always!) 👍
One of the best concerts I've ever been to! Her voice is incredible and it's so incredibly powerful, especially coming out of such a tiny body. She's also an incredible storyteller and funny! She was George Strait's opening act for his retirement tour.
Thank you Fil for bringing Martina into my life!
Here are some of the lyrics from Independence Day From Martina McBride. Let the weak be strong. Let the right be wrong. Roll the stone away. Let the guilty pay. It’s Independence Day 👍
Happy Easter!
I don't have any musical ability (other than some grade school trumpet playing) but I've learned so much by following your channel. Thank you
Martina is the greatest female artist ever!! That's just my opinion. Something about her songs and voice just gets my in my feels every time
Thanks for sharing this! Her song “Anyway” is amazing too!
Lots of fans here of country, she's talented I'll have to listen to her song A Broken Wing.
i only got to see here once, and it was for a tv taping of a christmas special with mannheim steamroller . on the ice. it wasn't her best but she was a trooper for even doing it. we all know, well, those of us who actually try to sing live, how cold air affects a voice. she's really excellent.
Love Martina! What a voice and easy on the eyes too! While you're learning female country singers, check out Suzy Boggus. Pure, beautiful voice.
A Broken Wing and Independence Day have already been mentioned but Whatever You Say is another Martina McBride song that really showcases her vocals too.
Wow!! I saw this performance when it was live on tv. That note! So dead on!!! Amazing
Martina McBride and Sara Evans both had (have) amazing pipes.
Another singer who may not be well known in the UK is Anne Murray. Her most famous song is probably "Snowbird". I'd love to see you analyze her!
Yes Anne Murray 🇨🇦! She is well known for one take! 🎶💖
Shadows in the moonlight...
Yesss!!
She's so smooth when she sings. I've always enjoyed her songs. Nothing fake about her......!
Martina sure can blow the doors out of the joint! I like the lack of vocal gymnastics with those held notes. Martina was huge back in the day but opted to spend more time at home with her family. She definitely had the talent to be a Carrie, a Whitney or a Dolly.
Flashbacks to my early college days. I adored Martina, and so many other wonderful female performers, but her songs hit me right in the feels. I highly recommend you just binge on her voice. She's just such a powerhouse.
She was on a the show Crossroads with Pat Benatar and sang Promises in the Dark with Pat. Blew me away! My favorite version of the song. Unfortunately it is not on RUclips anymore and I haven't found how to purchase the show..... yet. If you get a chance to see it you'll understand. Absolutely amazing!
If you type in "martina mcbride crossroads" it will give you the individual songs. Yes, they are damn good together.
@@CrisNuyt1 yes, I found it as well on utube
So much to say. I think I may have asked you to do this song in the past. The first time I heard this song ever.. was when me and my wife saw her live at radio City music Hall in 2007 in New York. When she did this song everybody was on their feet.. men were practically weeping with how incredible she was. I get the chills every time I hear it. We also saw her Christmas show at a small venue on Long Island that used to be called Westbury music Fair. She sang o holy night acapella. You can probably find that performance on RUclips.. she has so many songs where she holds notes like this.. I can't say enough about how incredible she is.. thanks for doing this song.Fil 🤗👍
Imagine my thrill when I saw the title and knew you were going to cover the song I requested! I'm so happy you found her voice as awesome as I did. I always suspected the change in key made it harder for her to hit the higher note, and now I find I was right, for the most part. I saw her live here in NY state several years ago, two nights in a row in different cities, and she did not sing "Where Would You Be" the second night, from what I've read due to the fact that she can (or will) only sing it when she's well-rested and is confident she can hit the notes. The playlist in the two shows were otherwise identical.
Here in the UK we don't fully appreciate just how wide and deep the pool of singers in each genre is in the USA. There are genres and su genres that hardly register here- the white Christian rock genre is MASSIVE but has zero traction in the UK. I remember my very first visit to Tower Records Store in Times Square in NYC and was overwhelmed by the vast number of discs on display and the sheer scope and scale of the departments. Each genre had a massive section- often a floor all to themselves with literally hundreds of artists recordings on display. The Gospel and Christian Rock sections were massive too as was Country and Jazz AND ALL THAT WAS BEFORE I REACHED SOUL/R&B, ROCK & POP! The UK just doesn't have the bandwidth (or cultural connection) for most of this stuff
A few years ago, I attended a Martina concert. She sang a rendition of "Help Me Make It Through the Night" that had total emotion. She reduced the band size for the performance to give it more intimacy. Her ability to make range jumps with absolute accuracy are legendary.
Thank you for doing Martina. She is one of my all time favorites. I knew she was a great singer. I could hear that, now I’ve seen it too! I agree with everyone who has recommended Independence Day for you to analyze (or at least for your own personal journey of discovering what Martina can do). That song never fails to bring me to tears, a powerful message delivered by a beautiful voice. Thank you Fil for teaching me so much about music through these videos.
She is a stunning vocalist - beautiful tone and such power! I have loved her for years.
I saw a comment stating that Martina McBride got her start, after Pat Benatar "blew her away, on her own song". Yeah, uh, no. She got her start from Garth Brooks.
And her "Independence Day" vocal? One of the best out there. Love to see you do an analysis of the chorus of that song. She has a great voice.
Saw her live, years ago, when I still lived in CA. It was a smaller venue, and I was maybe 10 feet from her. I sat, stunned, listening to her hit these notes, LIVE. On independence day? There was almost NO difference on her vocals- other than the studio processing being absent. It was incredible.
She very much has the power, not the vocals, but the power, of Ann Wilson of Heart.
Was surprised you didn't know of her Fil, lol. Apparently, that ocean between us is a bit larger than we thought, after all.
I'd love to see an analysis on Independence Day, too. What a great song!
Ditto on Independence Day. It's phenomenal!
I saw her bac in 2008..she had her kids with her..her husband is her recording guy..he owns their studio.. Before the concert we all saw her kids playing on the stage during the set upp!!! Besides seeing elvis in concert, that was a great show!! I think she is so much BETTER live!!!!!
My favorite song by her!
