I'm skeptical that dropping this today is mere coincidence. The book written in the 90's, the musical premiere 2003, then a 2-decade wait for the movie to debut only when the themes are most profoundly relevant? You're absolutely right - we DO need this.
@@giggles7179 The two decade wait was merely the movie being in show business purgatory. Nothing more. As for this little snippet itself? I'd buy that. Too little people connect the dots with it's political message. Most people don't when it come to heightened fantasy.
@jenniferhiemstra5228 I'm well-read on the story of how it sat in development hell while Disney tried to fill the void with _Oz, the Great and Powerful_ (which I re-watched recently and is nowhere near as bad as I remembered after seeing it in 2012). My comment was more of a tongue-in-cheek observation of the parallels the film has with the political madness unfolding days before its long-anticipated arrival.

This movie is a dream come true for an avid Oz fan like myself, and for Wicked in itself being a spiritual prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz just like the Disney film Oz the Great and Powerful. Jeff Goldblum was going to be playing The Great and Terrible Oz himself. This guy is perfect for the role and I look forward to him bringing the book in the stage play to life in this screenplay.
