    Love your videos! I’m wondering what tool / how you make the custom signs for the chiaras or arches, and how you’re able to change them out for every event without damaging them.

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Год назад +1

      Hi, signs are best made with a scroll saw and are pretty easy. They just take time to make sure you stay in the line. I have a couple of videos on here covering the topic of making the signs and hanging them. To hang them I use fishing string most of the time as it is strong and clear. Easy to change out and you cant see it. Thank for watching!

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Год назад +4

      @@cesarpena-quevedo8033 Hi, most of my plans have the wood I used with images. But my most go to plywood is 1/2 inch sanded plywood from Lowe's. A little more expensive than standard 1/2 inch plywood from Home Depot but it does not have a lot of the blemishes you see in construction grade plywood and no visible knots or spots. But it is only for paintable props. If you need to stain I recommend Home Depot sanded plywood which is great but you see the wood knots, which look great with stain. But if you paint them they are a pain to cover up. You will need a shellac based stain blocking primer before you paint over wood knots. And that primer smells strong. So I rather just buy the Lowe's sanded plywood which is lightly primered already so its easier to paint. If you have any other questions please message the Etsy store as I answer there a lot more. RUclips due to the high amount of comments I answer about every other day sometimes. Thank you and good luck!

      @MakerDecor  Год назад

      Hi, for jigsaws. Most are good, but I switched to Ryobi jigsaw because it is not that expensive and definitely enough power to do what I do. I do not recommend the Milwaukee 12v jigsaw. To save power they did not add the small blower on it. So when I was cutting it was good cause it was small but the dust would just block my view of the line I had drawn. That's why I switched to the less expensive but good Ryobi jigsaw. But most will do the job, good luck!

    Hello. What is the length from the end of the wood piece to where the pencil was placed? Looks like 1” but I want to make sure. Also how far out does the piece of wood (where u placed the pencil) need to be while tracing? I see that it sticks out a little as you trace.
    *I bought your plan but I didn’t see that on there btw thats why I ask 😊

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Год назад

      Hi, yes about 1 inch. But that isnt so important. The measurement between the pencil and the hole where the screw pivots is what will create the right size arch. So depending on how wide you want your backdrop it will change. So if you want a 3ft wide backdrop. Then the gap between the pencil and screw will need to be 18 inches. So when it is making a circle it will be 3ft. The backdrop I made was 42 inches wide so the gap was 21 inches between the pencil and pivoting screw. I also try to line it up with one of the sides, so I do not have to cut that side going down. I hope that helps and if you have any questions please let me know on the Etsy store as I answer those more quickly. I check RUclips not as much. Thank you for the support!

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Год назад

      Hi, thanks for watching. To start I use only a couple of tools to build most of our projects. Circular saw, jigsaw, drill, measuring tape, small clamps and a straight edge or 4ft level to use to create straight lines. You do not need them all and it depends on what you are building. Starting off with a couple of things and slowly start building up as you become more confident with your tools. Good luck

    What type of wood to use ?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Год назад

      Hi, mostly just sanded basic pine. It is inexpensive and at Lowe's theirs has a light white primer already painted on, making it easier to paint. And usually from Lowe's there are less visible wood knots showing. If I am going to stain instead of paint I just get the sanded pine plywood from Home Depot as it is not primered white.

    Okay, so do you always use a cover ? I feel like my line where the board folds is more pronounced than yours and I paint mine a lot of times or use peel and stick wall paper and that line kills me

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  15 дней назад

      Hi, have you thought about making the backdrop not foldable. I have built different types, some foldable, some not. The foldable option is more for those who have no other way of transporting larger items. Its kind of a trade off of ease of transport but you have to cut that line straight and have the hinges aligned right, to minimize the line. Or just have the full size backdrop and not have to deal with the line at all. And no I did not use the cover all the time, paint or vinyl does well. But also I have other backdrops and depends on the situation. Good luck
