19:00 Sophie please don't ever kick the dog cage, it could raise the dogs anxiety and make it worse because then the dog will think you are going to hit it. Plus it's makes the whole thing rattle and their little body's will have to take the brunt of that. I'm sorry for this little rant. But just PLEASE don't do that it'll only make things worse.

this maaaay sound crazy, but try a loose rein with finn and see how he responds. my horses automatically relax, stretch and carry their own weight when i give them a long rein. when i hold the reins tight the boys seem to get heavy and “push” into the bit aka they start going fast and push against my hands. when i loosen the reins they stretch their necks and backs and seem to slow entirely because they don’t have anything to push on. but i loosen my rein to the part i can have a very small contact on their mouth and where they would be allowed to stretch down. and instead of using my hands to slow them down, i post slower and use my seat every time o sit down. when i cantered, i would shorten them but still to the point i had small contact on their mouth. and when they cantered fairly fast, instead of stopping the canter or yanking on their mouth, i would half halt, and go into a circle. my trainer taught me that i was never allowed to stop my canter unless 1) she told me so. 2) lost my stirrup. 3) they’re bucking or taking off. sometimes it can be good for the horse to let their steam off and running fast and if they don’t slow down eventually keep going.

So glad you got to go out on a trail ride with the adults Laura, no having too worry about anyone else 😊 You do make me laugh though with your descriptions of the terrain and I’m sure if you’re not used to it ( which you aren’t) if probably did feel like a sheer cliff face etc 😂 Horses will sometimes go faster downhill, but like a person really, it can be easier and momentum takes over, plus it’s probably harder on Stella’s hocks if she tries to steady herself 😊 I know you like to film, but you would definitely find it easier and have more control if you keep both hands on the reins, perhaps it’s time you invested in a little helmet cam, I’m sure there’s some good ones around 👍

Kailey rode Finn like a pro, she is such a quiet rider, her hands have the perfect amount of contact with him, you could see he was content and happy. Sophie you were awesome and I didn’t see any moments when your confidence was about to bolt. Storm was his normal chilled self. Stella definitely rocks the trail ride, I’m guessing this is what she has done most of her life, with the occasional barrel race thrown in. Laura I can see you loved that trail ride. It was lovely seeing Fiona on a horse and relaxing in the sun.

I think I know why Stella won’t bond with Laura like storm bonded with Gabby! Over my trip I was talking to a horse owner and she said that her horse wouldn’t bond with her because he was already bonded with another horse. I think this might have happened with Stella because she was bonded with Willow before Laura, and usually the first bond lasts unless it is no longer available, I think that if you give it a bit more time, Stella will start looking towards Laura for company as willow looks for Gracie.

That’s great Nelly. Putting in the hard work as a young Equestrian is really good and an important part of learning to become a good horse person. It helps to teach you all the important details of horsemanship and different kinds of work that is needed to run a barn and on a horse. Just remember to always ask questions because we can help broaden your education on the little details that are needed when working with horses. And always continue to educate yourself with good correct and kind methods and techniques so that way you become the best person for your horse in the future and it’s important to find instructors and trainers and people that help you that also further their education with people that are in an upper level or are more educated than they are so that you know that you are learning from the best as well and from someone To find it important to continue learning for their students and Horses. Keep up the hard work it really pays off in the future.

Laura, I would really encourage you to talk to Fiona about using a western snaffle for the trails. It would give you so much more control over Stella so she doesn't go barging past people. Great job guys and the smores looked sooo yummy. Happy trails from Arkansas.

That's good that Sophie did good with Finn! Good job Sophie! Laura I had a problem with a horse too that would want to be in front of everybody. I think that you are holding the reins to tight when he wants to go up front, you should give him the command/correction to slow down and then release the pressure once she corrects it. I couldn't see that well but that's what you could do to help her from running to much. Just show em who's boss!

Laura I say this out of care and love. Please tighten your chin strap on your helmet. It may not feel comfortable to start but as loose as it was in this it will not help you if anything should happen. The trail looked amazing you all did so well!

Since you are riding more and more Laura, you should get a go pro for your helmet! Would be a lot easier for you to ride a film.
