The hardware seemed best, but was louder.
The SSL official seemed quite good but the compressor wasn’t being hit as hard.
The Plugin-Alliance seemed to lack low end punch until you switched it to the G dynamics, then it was much closer, but still quieter and a little hard to judge.
One thing for certain is that the Plugin-Alliance version is the most affordable because they put it on sale for next to nothing every other month, and it’s a really full featured channel strip.
The SSL is full featured as well, but far more expensive.
I may throw this video into DaVinci Resolve and volume balance the clips a little better.
They all were surprisingly close, which is 17-kinds of good news.
    😎👍👍

Yea, I noticed that as well after I watched the video back, it seems the hardware has more auto make-up gain than the plugins. The SSL channel strip and bus compressor go on sale together about every 3 months as a bundle for 49 dollars on plugin boutique and Sweetwater so just keep you eyes open when that happens. Cheers and thanks for watching!!

Can I ask, What was your conclusion? Did you like one over the others or did you feel they were all roughly the same. I know the hardware was about 1.5 to 2 db louder due to it having a more aggressive automatic make-up gain compared to the plugins but besides that I personally found the IK multimedia and Plugin Alliance to be very close and the SSL plugin and Antelope had a less aggressive make up gain so they did a better ob at matching the input and output gain. But I could use any of them. I really like the workflow of IK Multimedia's Mixbox and I have the SSL UC1 so I use it quiet a bit as well. But I still use hardware during tracking since it lets me work faster and get things right at the source. I just don't want to buy $8000 worth of 500 series modules to replace the SSL X-Logic Rack. So I think I will be picking up a couple of them and using the SSL compressor in the Antelope Audio interface when I need more then 1 or 2 of the hardware units. Cheers and thanks for watching!!

@@joesalyers HW is always better, and I've found the IK, which I already have, to sound similar to the HW-not 100%, but comparative to the HW. The sound of the HW is more 3D than the IK, but I think when using the plug in a busy mix, you cannot identify which is which. I am happy with IK convenience-wise, speaking of plugins vs. HW.
