    This Cardridge, 60mm, HE M49A2 was used in Nam also. The bore riding pin pops out when set back pin releases bore riding pin as cartridge leaves the mortar tube. There is a delay in these actions so cartridge will clear any above obstacles. In Nam we had crews killed due to jungle canopy at times. A new safer fuze and cartridge was designed for use in Nam. Also Comp B was used rather than TNT. It was safer as when TNT got old, it chemically separated exuding nitroglycerin around fuze joint to ourside of body. No handling after that. I was Technical Engineer of munitions at that time, testing quality and safety.

      Yes, very few were thrown. I only head it from a neighbor in Korea, they would be over run so they just threw them as weapon without banging them. Not enough time and trying to throw them was idiotic as too close, thus friendly fire results.
