Regarding double burgers, Napoleon famously said "An army travells on its stomach." Evidently that is not known to the modern commissariat.

Knowing how badly US military budget is managed the money was probably being embezzled by the base manager or something similar.

My friend lived in the city, I stopped to see him one day when I was there for a vet appointment, for my St Bernard. I leashed her, and walked her in his yard, while I waited for him to come out. I noticed his neighbor sitting on his porch, smoking a joint, about that time he opened his front door, and out rushed a pitbull. Straight at my dog, who promptly tried to hide behind me. As the pit rushed past me, I grabbed him by the neck, picked him up, held at arms length, and shook the stuffing out of him, while bellowing, don't even try that again, you won't like my response. Then tossed him back into the neighbors yard. The pitbull ripped the screen out of the door going back into his house. My friend said he's never had a problem with that dog, or neighbor again. You just have to set the ground rules, I'm the alpha dog, not you, and they will mind. Works with some slow people too.

I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB, MT in the late 60s. Sunday evening meal was cold cuts and cheese (not fun in the winter), if you asked for extra they’d tell you were only allowed a few slices. The same if you came in for breakfast after working grave shift, no extra sausages or bacon. When the tray was full. Wondered if the leftovers were going out the back door to someone’s hog farm.

Story 2 - you're a military member as soon as you show up for basic training. Otherwise, how would you get paid, receive medical care, etc if you had to wait till you were finished with tech school?
And it's been many years since I was active duty but the chow hall had regular meals available, not just stuff from the grill. Meatloaf, baked chicken, mashed potatoes, etc. One of the cooks at my base was an excellent baker and we had some very good desserts on offer too.

OP called it 'tech school', so it was obviously Air Force. I was Army (78-91) and out mess halls would give you whatever you wanted, as much as you wanted whether you were on meal card or not.

My niece was working for a German bakery. Good bread especially the cheese pretzel loaf😋. Just one problem he hired my niece all was great did her job great worker got praised & promoted. she didn’t know she was pregnant until the symptoms showed up. well things changed after that she was treated like a badly given the worst shifts the owner/boss constantly complaining then one day he just up & fired her after she had asked for maternity leave. He got fined by the state for violating a few rules & was investigated for other violations as well she got her unemployment & maternity leave.

Yard story: I know the OP seemed to be a first time buyer in this story, but I can't imagine buying my house without having the property lines clearly defined and cleaned off prior to signing any paperwork. And as other have said, put up a fence (maybe a stone wall) and get police involved with threats against my animals/personal space.

I'm in Australia and I find it kind of weird just having property lines. we have fences . You check the edge when you buy it and fence. if it's against someone else's which doesn't have a fence, you share the cost after deciding what colour fence

Most states require new surveys with marking pins and clear title as well as bring all buildings to current code BEFORE YOU CAN PUT PROPERTY ON THE MARKET. and especially court permission for all real estate sold after death.

OP with neighbors A, B, & C should've put up a fence first thing. Also, unless your cats are trained to walk in a leash, they should ALWAYS stay indoors. Not saying the other neighbors weren't in the wrong, they were, but getting a fence put up would've put a stop to all of this a LOT sooner.

Happened to My Friends (MF) They were successful in their professional lives. They purchased a multi acre lot that held a big yard, house & pool. MF had a couple of kids. The children turned the pool into the kid gathering spot for the subdivision. MF frequently held barbecue pool parties.
Time marched on. MF’s kids graduated college & moved away to different states for jobs. MF reached the top of their professions. Their days began early & ended late. They frequently traveled for work. As a result they hired lawn & pool maintenance crews.
One day MF/wife was working from home. She discovered unsupervised unknown children using the backyard pool. Then, to her surprise she saw adults would drop by to swim & sun themselves. When she asked all then to leave she realized that these strangers had come to believe their pool & backyard was a community space. She then used preexisting heavy duty locks to close off the pool & the backyard.
Her husband totally agreed with his wife~potential liability issue. Still, there were many social posts on local community boards.

Yard story: OP, as expensive as it may be, it sounds like it may be time to put up a fence. Not necessarily a privacy fence, just a 3.5 feet tall chain-link fence, although if you let your cats out into the yard, a 6 feet tall privacy fence may be a better choice.
Pool story: Oh come on, what were the results? Burned skin, damaged hair or something else? But don't you have a fence around the pool itself? Those are usually required, even in rural areas.

Family members are the worst... The reason I am no longer with my fiancee is because of family member. My father just passed this years and though I am no materialistic there are a few things I did ask for before his passing and they were promised to me. My brother just a few days ago texted me and said you took the box with Blah blah blah . Why could I not have looked at it and seen what was in it in case I wanted something. Mind you my brother took almost every expensive tool my father had, gas generators, snow blower. all these were new and easily cost $ 1000 each. and that just what I know of. His wife took it upon herself to start selling the furniture in the home. The one my mom did not want to keep and they were making bank on that. I know cause I was there when she sold to lazyboy style chairs for $800 .. So in my box there was almost nothing , some keep sake's for the ranks my dad had passed some medals and a few coins. Yet my brother still had to make things difficult. No Family regretfully is just a pain in the butt sometimes.

Funny Chowhall story: One of the bases I was stationed at relied on the snowbird retirees to make the chowhall "economicly feasible" because none of the active duty would eat there.
As for the "double burger" debate, Chowhalls are run by the bean counters. They are trying to feed each member for like $7 a day. They only get "paid" by the number of people fed.

From the second story, it's beyond funny that they won't let personnel get "double" burgers, for expense reasons; when the DoD just failed another audit (they have yet to pass one) and cannot account for something over 60% of their assets. (more than $2 TRILLION) Last story; lets be honest; if the karen in question looked anything like the one in the teaser photo, this wouldn't be a complaint.

I agree in my experience every company that says no one wants to work and they can't find anybody that's willing to work for them has a few things in common. They all have terrible reputations amongst the local public. They all have extraordinarily low pay, almost no benefits and if they do they're crappy benefits and all their employees are severely overworked and micromanaged

You can get extra food at night as take out meal boxes (fa--irly boring and not very appetizing), but during daytime hours they are open for (1.5 to 2.5 hours) For Breakfast, Lunch, and dinner. Not any other time during the day. Want something else, or better, go to the food court (on base somewhere) or order a pizza. Luckily, most of the time I was in the USAF I was on BAS (paid to get my own meals as and where I wanted or buy gorcerias and cook my own). Happens when you work odd shifts, or spend lots of time on call.
Who cares about "the crew" who are responsible for making orders, they were all either Officers or very senior NCOs.

Trillions in the budget? The DoD doesn't have an annual budget of a trillion, let alone trillions. When there's 3M active duty, reservists, and civilan contractors, payroll makes up a very big chunk. Bases are under constant construction which makes up another. Parts for maintenence and fuel to support ongoing training, along with the ranges, a 2000lbs JDAM doesn't cost $100, more like $40K
Seevicemembers get money deducted when on meal card, it averages out to around $15 being generous. Tell me where you can get three meals for $15 when you aren't preparing it yourself and it starts to make sense why messing facilities can be strigent; they're already working at a loss of sorts and can only augment the budget so much.

Frankenstein thousands of dollars on a hammer that at the time you could have got at the hardware store for $4 and what they paid for the Hammers the amount of hammers they got. At that price they could have bought enough hammers that they would still have them today. But they can't give their servicemen double portions of food. That's why you need women in charge of the military
