I'm not a native english speaker and I totally "listen" and understand the difference between MOM and MA'AM in scotish accent, american accent, english accent. How can americans not get it!?!? Beats me!

    • @breek6053
      @breek6053 2 года назад +1

what americans don't get it. We get it it just sounded different. Did it occur to you that people who live in different areas tend to hear other countries words different and vice versa?

I really like this interviewer’s charisma and the whole “ma’am” thing was pretty funny

The Ma'am thing had me blown....I never thought anyone confused them. Mum (mom) & ma'em (ma'am) have different inflections. But we all hear different things I guess 🤷🏾‍♀️

Wow. This makes Americans look so clueless!
It only took the first time he said ma’am for me to know he was saying ma’am.
That part of the interview made me cringe. 😳

I am Saudi Arabian fan and God I adore the way he says ma’am and just how he acted in general .. it was on point for me!! And apparently for many across the world

"Mom" is also how most locals in my country pronounce "ma'am". Can easily relate on this with Richard.
He's absolutely gorgeous & very pleasant.

“So it’s not ma’am meaning ma’am, it’s mum meaning mom?”
“No, it’s ma’am meaning ma’am, not mom.” - “I’m not calling her mum! I don’t call my boss mum.”
    “So you’re calling her mom?”
    “Ma’am”
“But what does that mean, it’s like your mother?”
What is wrong with this woman?

whys everyone being so damn harsh in the comments? the interview was actually quite a breathe of fresh air compared to most other formal boring af interviews. i loved how she made this more like a laidback conversation they could laugh over and you really cant blame her for not understanding what he was saying. as a brit myself i couldnt even get him at times. lol

It's amazing how people couldn't understand the dialogue due to a different accent. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out and I'm south african/not black african. Then again most Americans elected trump and his administration. Bodyguard was pretty gripping. A solid 86% for everything from story to action . Acting in bodyguard will get 90% though .Thumbs crossed for Season 2 of bodyguard . Maybe Julia returns ?

She was embarrassing us Americans with the whole “mum” “mom” “ma’am” thing. We all know that Americans aren’t all that great, but in a professional setting, you call your superiors “ma’am” obviously. Recognize that it’s a different accent

Here’s ipa for the vowel in American dialect mom: /ɑ/ and Scottish dialect ma’am /a/ the former is way backer in the mouth. American English dialect actually contrasts these two vowel (e.g. hot and heart)so try harder. In most British dialects mom and Scottish dialect ma’am does sound more easy to distinguish though. (Former /ɒ/, latter /a/ meaning in British dialects you round you lip to pronounce mom so easier to distinguish )

As an American, this is SO embarrassing. Really, you never heard of ma'am? Ok , I get the pronunciation may have been difficult at first (like the first few minutes of the first episode), but use your common sense. Oh, and maybe ppl who are going to interview international artists SHOULD TRAVEL!! i will never watch EXTRA again.
