  • As England buries their beloved queen, other members of the commonwealth realm prepare for what could be a swift breakup with the monarchy. The British empire enriched themselves by enslaving Africans in Jamaican fields, and that history has not been forgotten, or paid back.

This is completely misrepresenting Jamaicas relationship with the British.
We live as an independent nation and the only effect the UK has on us is economic support.
Be careful of this propoganda that would rather have us left out to the world like Haiti to be pillaged.

The British Royal Family has done less to damage to Jamaica than the years of evil politics there. Look at how prosperous the Cayman Islands remains and they are still under British rule. So many Jamaican’s go there to work illegally because they have no opportunities in Jamaica because of the mismanagement of the economy. Don’t blame the Queen for gun violence, constant murders, corruption and lack of opportunities. Blame the leadership of the country who squandered our best years and wasted tax payers money. I recently visited and the place felt so run down, expensive and dilapidated. If and when Jamaica drops the King as head state, the UK will actually feel more relieved. As for reparations, you think if Britain decided to give back billions any Jamaican would get a red cent? The same corrupt, dutty politicians on both sides and their cronies, families and friends would steal it and hide it in foreign accounts in the same UK. So, stop that BS about reparations. Jamaica had the opportunity after independence to be the jewel of the Caribbean, just like the same black people who help to coerce us onto the slave ships 300 years ago, their very same ancestors do the same thing 300 years ago. I’m not a monarchist, but I know hypocrisy and BS when I see it. Big up Cliff Hughes still, definitely one of the most important minds and thinkers in Jamaica. Also remember, the Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew visited Jamaica after Independence and was impressed with our economy and infrastructure, he went back Singapore and used his visit to Jamaica to make Singapore what it is today. Just remember that. Those politicians who declined to talk to you, go find them and ask serious questions.

The British left behind a system for their descendants but ofcourse as political changes start to creep in and poor getting access to better education calls for more reform and that's where Jamaica declined. It's infrastructure and capital couldn't cover the expense of its actual population making it hard for Jamaicans to keep up and with more ambitious educated Jamaicans leaving the country . When immigration to the US opened in the late 60’s and 70’s, many Jamaican’s took the opportunities there too. It wasn’t necessarily because of pressure, it was simply a backup plan. Many people see that the power of those two cousins was a threat to the countries development. Bustamante, Hugh Sharer, Donald Sangster. The minute Michael got power, it turn upside down. Can't be done immediately. JA consit requires a referendum, and then intense, drawn out processes and time requirements. That involves a lot of drafting, debates in parliament to have an actual republican constitution. Andrew has a new constitutional ministry working on the plans, but appointed malahoo-forte as minister so that ain't going anywhere for now. Bless that last little kid, cause monarchy hasn't done anything for us. Literally. Check out the early 2000s when they made visas a requirement. And no, being a part of the commonwealth doesn't allow each citizen to move freely or easily into another commonwealth country.
As an aside, people forget that the uk has parliamentary supremacy and therefore even if the royals wanted to do anything for us, they'd have to pass through that horde.

Becoming an independent republic is good for all.
As for the expensive visa application for Jamaican's to be able to visit the UK.. it didnt used to be that way. Used to be easy as pie for Jamaicans to go to the UK, but that changed in the 1990's (it was the 1990's right?).. "trouble" started to emerge with organized crime (wot we call Yardies) and the drugs, human traficking, and violence that accompanied such (And YES.. I AGREE.. Many others were doing this too, it is NOT unique to Jamaica, not by a longshot (*cough-cough* Turks.. and Turks.. *cough-cough*). I recall when the level of crime got to be high, was when I recall this heavy handed turn of policy was implemented. Many other Caribbean commonwealth citizens have no such bother coming and going into the UK. The troubles for Jamaicans going to England has an origin.
Talk of reparations is foolhardy. It wont happen! Only way you gonna get that is the declare war (or vice-versa) then beat 'em, then have it as part of terms...else not sue for peace, and straight up conquer them (or other 'owned' territory), effectively pacify the populace tow quell rebellion/uprising/revolution/etc., and take back your shyt or its equivalent in capital..with interest.. thus planting seeds for later revisitation of said subjuct whoknowshowmanyyearslater.. No nation/empire/corporation EVER has compensated legacy persons for past financial exploitation from centuries back.
Have they even broached the question of the level of indebtedness Jamaica was "compelled/hoodwinked/complicit" into after independence by the IMF? This has hamstrung Jamaica's economic and internal development potential since the start.
Not than remaining with the British Monarch as ceremonial head alleviates any of this.. I mean.. they've (monarchy) has had plenty of time to set things right..

Therefore it is my view as an American that Canada is in a unique position to rise to power above America, particularly with the thawing of newly fertile farmland in the Yukon, a singular boon of global warming.

Unlike Jamaica, Canada is one of the colonies where the Indigenous population were killed in such high numbers that they're vastly outnumbered by white people who are far more likely to desperately cling to an archaic monarchy than majority POC nations like Jamaica.

Why would we ever leave the commonwealth? It gives us more of a say on global issues, gives us more links to major powers like UK, Canada, & India, links us more with several African countries, gives us the right to vote & be in politics in some commonwealth nations like UK, & if something happens to us abroad like we lose our passport or it gets stolen we can apply for an emergency British passport if there's no Jamaican embassy

The monarchs are the few establishments who can stand on their own merit against the encircling crush of international mega corporations.
The corporations supersede international borders, and do not have the intentions of the people at heart.
Say what you like about the British monarchy but they understand how the it's the people who give them power and will stand with the people over their shareholders, because their shareholders are the people.
People think rejecting the ideas of monarchs is an easy argument, yet don't fully think about who will fill the power gap left by them if they go.

The problem is that becoming a republic may not offer much other than the satisfaction of thumbing your nose at the former colonizer. It can be a political and constitutional nightmare. Will the president be elected? What powers will they have? If their role is anything more than symbolic how will that affect the country? It's also not necessarily any less expensive than having a governor general, just the added expense of having presidential elections likely makes the republican option more expensive. It's these concerns that give Canadians and Australians pause when thinking about republicanism.
