I always use the Magneto in Nuendo. Its warmth is mushy and hot at the same time. It has been in Nuendo since the very first version 1.5 from back in 2000.
I have matched a vocal chain with Cubase stock plugins - exactly same sound like my Waves 1176/LA2A chain (you have to adjust a bit, but it actually works!) Hint: in a full arrangment with many other tracks you can´t hear the difference. Great times...
Thanks Chris. I applied your ideas to a vocal I'm working on at the moment and it immediately sounded better. The setup is now saved as my default insert chain for vocals. Do you have other such advice for guitars, bass, drums....? I realise that the context of the recording can mean big differences but maybe you have a "go to" setting for the start of a project? Anyway, thanks again for all your insights.
Hi Chris, Thanks for this very practical steps for mixing vox. Could you make a video about using Reverb and Delay on this vocal? I'm so curious about using Slap and Long Delay as well.
Fabulous Video and as usually very practical. I am looking forward to see your way to deal with the Reverb and Delay by using also stock Cubase Plugins. Thanks a lot.
Very interesting tutorial, but, yes there's a 'but'... i'm french and the choosed voice / words are very very hard in my ears ;) Thanks again for all your work !
Hi Chris I bought the SSL UF8 and got the channelstrip 4kb plugin with it. But where do I put the plugin? Do I do that on the first insert Slot in the mixer of Cubase? Or is there a summing slot in the mixer? Thanks Chris Gr.Ness
Hey Alain...Nop, it's the same as sending the signal on a Bus. An EQ added on the Bus or duplicated track will create phase shifts, and that's normal, and not necessarily a negative issue, might be more noticeable on low frequencies of bass instruments
Hey Chris, for the parallel compression you use a bus. I suppose that is "post". When you apply parallel compression by duplicating the track, you are likely to run into trouble quickly because when there are many fader moves these also need to be done on the duplicated compression track. Am I seeing that correctly? Sincerely
Yes, I use a Bus (Group or FX channel) in Pre Send, when I use a VCA Fader to control both channels for Fader Automation, if these 2 channels are routed in a Group channel, that I then Automate the Fader volume, like in this video, then don't need a VCA, and my Vocal Send to the PArallel Bus can be Post or Pre, it doesn't matter since the Fader level of the Vocal channel will not move...The Vocal Group channel will, if automation is added later. Hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/9dTjWZhJb5Q/видео.html
Hello i have a question: shouldn’t be „peak compression” before saturation (after eq and deesser) because otherwise the peaks are getting more saturated than RMS which would be more pleased effect of saturation? 😊
Hi, Chris do you think that Cubase stock plugins have the same sound quality as 3rd party plugins (aliasing etc) , if not in which area it s started to be toonoticeable that it forces you to use something else (3rd party plugin or hardware)?
Yes, I do think Stock plugins are pretty good, and I do work with other plugins. I made a video a couple of years ago about this ruclips.net/video/Hzs1yWaKBH4/видео.html
@@mixdownonline thank you, i re-watch your video (i forgot it) and it was what i understood to but i don't have too much experience with cubase fx plugins => i used cubase since sx3 , so i'm so used to not use stock plugins (except frequency 2 for the multi side chain and track gain/high pass/low pass filter and variaudio) maybe i should try to use them now and maybe i could sell some of my 3rd party plugin...(but as i am writting this it might be a bad idea if have to reopen older project..🙂).
The high quality of the standard fx in Cubase is one of its important features when comparing to other DAWs
Cubase Plugins are great!

The c plugins are amazing

For what you've done with your parallel channel I use Distroyer instead to add the blended distortion/harmonics.
Thx Chris, love your tutorage!! Surely there must be a 'magic' vocal treatment button to do all you just showed us? ....yeah I'm a little hasty!!
Yes, I would like a video on your delay/reverb plugins! Thank yoou.
Noted!
Yes! Video for the reverb and delays
I would’ve thought you’d use a dynamic EQ on the tracks to bring the vocals up front. Why doesn’t lowering the mids push the vocal back?
This was a very useful clip for me, Chris - thank you so much 🙂
Thanks Chris. Another relaxing 15 minutes that makes complete sense. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I love those cubase plugins
This was very nice! I used them on 2 songs and they bumped real nice.
Another Great Video Chris!!! LOVE the shirt too btw!
Thanks man!
The dynamic EQ function of Frequency2 also works great as a de-esser.
Of course, because any de-esser is actually a dynamic equaliser for a narrow hi frequency bandwidth.

That's a good experiment to do, Thanks for sharing!
I remember this mix from a previous tutorial on parallel saturation and was really hoping you would revisit it, thank you so much
This really beautiful
Would love to know your approach to the reverbs and and delays

I would like to see what you use for delays and reverb, and WHAT you are trying to achieve by adding them.
Noted :-)
@@mixdownonline yes please me too Chris, interested in delays and reverb in cubase for Vox
oh add me too!!
Thanks Sir

Thanks! I will work on this one :-)
otimo video, fala mais sobre os delays e reverb
Noted, will do!
Chris, am curious if you ever use any other DAW? Do you often get jobs that you need to mix in other DAWs?
You could re do this video with the new vocal chain in Cubase 13 , would be interesting .
The bearded looking awesome! Great education as well.
Glad you think so! LOL. Thanks, bro!
Very good tutorial thank you Chris
You are welcome!
Thank you for sharing this !
Do you use parralel compression when you have already used upward compression like the MV2?
Did Chris produce his effects tutorial? Where is it? Thanks!
What a timing, I just posted the FX video a few minutes ago ruclips.net/video/98znXN_8Zd4/видео.htmlsi=iyoR3wSCJDBL-F89

Will do :-)

Salut Chris! At 10:30 you mention one way of doing it is to duplicate the vocal track. Would this not create phase issues?
Hey Alain...Nop, it's the same as sending the signal on a Bus. An EQ added on the Bus or duplicated track will create phase shifts, and that's normal, and not necessarily a negative issue, might be more noticeable on low frequencies of bass instruments
Excellent!
but it's possible have a vocal chain direct in cubase?
Why oh why doesn't this have a Mix Knob, have I got this wrong and I simply can't find it?

you need to be more detailed on routing and creating fx channels and group channel , that's a lot of stuff to overlook
I already have videos on Routing, the vocal chain on the vocal track itself is what I focus more about on this one :-)
I'm French Canadian LOL
@@mixdownonline i know! I'm a big fan 😉
WOW! I had to go through almost 10 minutes of ads to see the video. First and last time. Sorry brother!
It's just few seconds
your 1st 2nd compressor was EQ , and then you said my 2nd compressor was a compressor .
Chris selim you have more knowlodge of music, but you make video, when you make video dont talking more & more just showing plugging settings ok
It's a tutorial, and plugin settings aren't for copying every song will have different needs, why are you doing music with a dumasss mind
