Dallas Cowboys was the premier team to contend with in the NFL playoffs back in the 1970s and early 1980s. I remember when the Philadelphia Eagles won against the Cowboys in the 1980 NFC Championships. A year later, in the 1981 NFC Championship, the San Francisco 49ers won against the Cowboys. Then a year after that, the Washington Redskins defeated the Cowboys in the 1982 NFC Championship game. The Cowboys were still the team to contend with in 1985, when the Chicago Bears finally won against them. Then the Cowboys team had noticeably declined in performance. They were revived under new ownership by Jerry Jones, and by the 1992 NFL Season, the Dallas Cowboys, under coach Jimmy Johnson, returned as Super Bowl Champions.
Having the greatest pro football broadcasting duo of all time the great Pat Summerall & John Madden when the Cowboys Redskins in the early 80s was CBS main late game whether the game was in Irving Texas or Washington DC plus it was must see TV
A hard fought win for the Cowboys. Unfortunately they couldn't repeat this for the NFC Championship played in that same stadium later that same season.
I remember this game. The strange thing about this team and other Cowboy teams of that era was that the defense, even if they weren't best in the league, they were always formidable and came to play ALWAYS and watching this video reminds me just howvastly superior this defense was compared to anything we have fielded in the past 20 years or more. Look at the defensive line getting penetration on almost EVERY DOWN. That was a redskin team that won the superbowl that season too! with the best offensive line in football! Our defense isn't even in the same zipcode today. Sad.
@@Ranman1 No point! Only stating facts. After getting tired of watching these Dallas Cowboys dominate the NFC all through the 70’s until this season, I was happy to see these Redskins beating Dallas in the NFC Championship Game.
One of my favorite Cowboys wins of all time and if Danny did not get hurt in the playoff game we would have eventually won and in that NFC CHamp game Everson Walls picked of Theismann but they called it INC...such a bullshit call. Rod Hill should have been traded or cut after this game because he missed bed check the night before the game as well. We never should have traded Saldi after this season eitther...he should have been second string after BJ DuPRee, Cosbie starts
No no. Didn't matter who the Quarterback was. Redskins were better and outplayed them. Should have been a safety for the Redskins at one point if I remember correctly. 50 GUT!!!
I felt sorry for Randy White in the championship game. Got slapped around like a nerd. I heard Russ Grimm and Joe Jacoby gave him a swirly after the game.
cowboys were really suppose to be the defending super bowl champions because in the 81 championship gzme cowboys were robbed against the 49ers because danny white didnt really fumble his arm was going forward when the ball got knocked out of his hand
I know lol ..u trashed us....seeing this great rilvary back then was awesome...the talent was excellent..the announcers were great...and even the uniforms were nice and looked good together on the same field
Brings me back
Thank you!!! Old school football at its finest!!!!
Best game that Dallas played that year. They should have saved it for the championship game.
Ron Springs springs for it! 46yd TD run. Underrated fullback who made some clutch plays and was very dependable.
Art Monk was a heck of a receiver. These videos bring me back to my days of being a young football fan.

This is nothing new for me since I already know the history of the NFL and every team
Love these classic games , especially with Pat and John. Todays crews are no where half as good.
Loved the fake punt by White and the 4th quarter TD by Springs to put the game out of reach.
Man...why they couldn't do that in the NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME the following month.
Time machine, take me back to when we had fabulous football and the best booth tandem in pro football history. Ahhh, thank you.
Back in a time when team owners just signed and cashed big checks and didn't meddle in day to day football operations.
24:33 Ron Springs administers the coup de grace.
Heckuva game!!👍

drew pearson and tony hill out patterns, screen passes to Dorrset, Danny White Fake punts, cowboys were so good.
Until they weren’t !!
Classic game cowboys vs redskins get riviarly

That's true but strange considering that the game passed Landry by just a few years later.
Bad draft picks sunk Landry. Look at the Draft picks 1979-1988 pretty bad.
The Only Loss the Washington Redskins ever suffered during the 1982 Season!
@Orn Gorn And they still only lost 1 game, what’s your point?

@@Ranman1 That was his point. Sheesh you're touchy aren't you.
Such a nice job cutting this together👍
24:30, turn out the lights the party's over🎵🎵🎵.
fab rivalry, Cowboys won 2 in the 70's. Redskins won 2 in the 80's. And they combined for 4 in 90's. 35 yrs of dominance.
A funny thing happened to them in 1983 on the way to another Super Bowl Championship however
Redskins D didn’t focus on defending the fullback position and they were burned by Springs and Newsome.
Am l the only one that wants to know what happened with the news bulletin of New Mexico head coach that day...lol
He was hired that day as HC at South Carolina. Got curious and had to google it. Lol
That was a great day to be a gamecock!!

@@shanetrimble9265 true. You are right. I watched both games that year

The people that took away the redskins name and logo are evil people
NFL glory days... todays game is garbage compared to the games played in this era. Even media coverage was a million times better.
Major facts 👍🏾💯
Hey do you have the game footage from the falcons vs saint October 20th 1985 or the first game of the falcons season in 1986??
Only lost of the season for the Redskins
Only played each other once in regular season because of the strike
The Cowboys have played better in the darker blue jerseys, not so much of a jinx
The pre “Jerrah” cowboys!
My guy tony Hill etc cliff branch Tim brown 🤎 etc issaic Curtis Mike quick billy jo Dupree .. etc where not to bad
The redskins next loss came at rfk, to the cowboys
Opening night 1983 Cowboys 31 Redskins 30
The Redskins' only loss of that season.
Redskins got back at them in the title game
The Redskins would get their revenge against Dallas in the NFC title game 🏈
Unfortunately!
Neither team has done anything in the last 25 years!!!
