    Dude, your killing it! Your regularly uploading more and more content and it's all still well articulated and and easy to digest, even unscripted. There's been a speed route at my gym in Nashville, TN for months now, I've climbed it, but never taken the initiative to climb it seriously. This video makes me want to actually get to that hold and try the technique myself! Thanks for the motivation, keep crushing it!

    there's a video of alex honnold trying this move with a speed climber, and the beta is interesting. If I recall, honnold never gets the move. Obviously, Honnold is not out there crushing top tier comps, but he's a pretty good climber.
    And for you Albert, if you watch that video, you get some good pointers, a couple of which you retroactively point out yourself.

    We have a speed route at my local gym! It would be great to see you do a tutorial on how to get started speed climbing! I really can't start since I always take it so slow and it seems that one really needs momentum. How can I start to build up speed?

    I got to try the speed climbing route a while back and it only looks easy because of the training that many athletes have put into it. My first attempt took me about 2 minutes and I still had slipped on a hold. (granted, this was at the end of my climbing sesh, but still!) - and also, before I tried it, I had never realised how the incline of the speed climbing wall is also something that one has to take into account. it's a minor thing, but it does add to the challenge.

    • @AlbertOkay
      @AlbertOkay  3 года назад

      Yeah it's not the hardest route in the world, but to do it at the speed that they are doing it is extremely difficult!

  • @JDawg12329

    I tried it at my home gym. It’s a lot harder than it looks. You watch the video and you’re like, not too bad, but it is so hard.

    I can definitely respect how hard speed climbing is. Usually it gets flak for being repetitive to watch and an illogical inclusion into the climbing medal, not for being easy.

    Don’t know why i see many people pull their arms very hard then get their foot up first when trying it but i think your suppose to step up first with arms straight then smear with other foot and pull at the same time. This should help you get to the tile.

  • @Lunarl4ndr

    I'm very new to climbing. Wouldn't a more angled foot be better on the step up? The closer your heel could be to the right side of the hold the closer you could keep your hips to the wall, right?

    • @oaxacenio
      @oaxacenio 3 года назад

      I think the idea of having a soft shoe is to be able to use the wall with your right foot before placing your left one. Softer shoes help getting more surface and friction

    • @Lunarl4ndr
      @Lunarl4ndr 3 года назад +1

      @@oaxacenio I get that the softer shoe would allow more flex and thus more surface contact. I mean to manage a more lizard crawl position would be better right? More open hip means closer to the wall?

    • @AlbertOkay
      @AlbertOkay  3 года назад +1

      It's extremely difficult to generate in that position (If I"m understanding you correctly) as your foot would be extremely high. I'm just a much taller climber and even though I'm very flexible it was difficult for even me to get it to the position that you are referring to. I'll definitely be trying to nail this move down in the future and I"m sure if I have more time than I had I'll be able to get it!

    • @Lunarl4ndr
      @Lunarl4ndr 3 года назад

      @@AlbertOkay you may check out the lizard crawl exercise. Looks goofy as hell, but the movements and flexibility, to my laymen eyes, look like they could apply to speed climbing. Love your videos. They get me motivated. :)
