When market failure happens and someone wants a bike like this enough, they jump through hoops to get them! I bought my MC19 from Canada. Drove 2000 miles round trip to get it. So my bike has been grey market imported at least twice, I wasn't there to talk to the previous owner, so I have no history from them.
Hey mate ive had a 89 mc 19 250r under cover sitting for 5 years after i basically restored it, super close to mint condition, brand new tires ,grips ,fairings , battery, oil, coolant, lights, plugs, exhaust, levers, powder coated rims, new ignition and fuel cap, painted and cleaned in and out tank. 20,000 ks on the clock.. Mechanically sound and clean. it really is mint.. My question is.. What sort of price should i be asking for a bike of this condition? I live in NZ and there's none i can compare price to here... A rough estimate would be appreciated.. Thanks =)
About $6,000 - $6,500 (with a years registration) . If it is as you have described (exchange rate considered with Australia) . An excellent equivalent in Australia would fetch about $5,500 - $6,000 . Gumtree Australia will give an indication for this one & the MC22 version which is more often seen . I rode a Yamaha FZR 250 2KR in white/blue which I had in 1990 . I now have a black with blue graphics Yamaha FZR 250 3LN1 to ride which has better appointments / specifications, EXUP etc & dual front disc brake rotors . It is a way for me to remember old times & reminisce when riding her . I wouldn't ride anything else due to this happy memory she brings .
I own one of these. Mint condition no limiters on it and it is a little demon. It sounds like a swarm of angry hornets and damn close to a F1 car when your opening it up. Video on my channel of a 20 min ride on my one the other day.
They have limiters ("ROM chip from Intel to control ignition coils signals, timing advance in degrees & rpm limit CPU 280khz clock speed technology borrowed from early personal PC'S.) with a pulse wheel with teeth on it attached to the crankshaft to give the crankshaft position signal . I have done work relating to this when converting a MC22 to programmable ECU & Fuel Injection with a mate in his workshop a year ago during a Tyga project . We cut an old Ignitor open & converted it into a circuit diagram after dissecting the integrated circuit , transistors, resistors & electrolytic capacitors , circuit board tracks .
@@robertmcfadyen9156 the MC19 some have limiters and there is a little red dot on the speedometer that is how you can tell if it has a limiter or not. Mine was pre limiter.
@@Nano_Noodles The dot is easy to remove , it is a phototransistor reflector . This is a well known hack for speed limit lifting . The Ignition chipset is the primary limiter for other aspects like engine top speed & power output characteristics .
The best motor oil for these is Caltex Delo 400 (30 - 10) which has a shear load ingredient making it great for wet clutches . I use it on my Yamaha FZR 250 3LN1 with excellent results , the engine sounds smooth & the clutch feels positive with it .
I sold it, then bought it back two years later than sold it again lol it’s on the East Coast now. I think it went to New Jersey or New York. Something like that

I wish these would make a comeback, multi cylinder small engines they’re so cool
They ARE making a comeback, heard of the new ZX25R?

Screamingggggg! That's insane man! Cant wait to see the progress on this one!
Am always fascinated when an AMERICAN has a mc19 or mc22. I wonder how it got to USA! Heaps here in Australia. I own one myself

A headlight restoration kit will work for the windshield if you want to save some cash.👍👍✌️
The 3M brand perspex cleaner can do wonders on motorcycles for presentation .
Man I bet that things gonna be fun to ride!
One great bike!!!!
The mc19 was just called the cbr250r the mc22 was the double r
