Thanks! Definitely will be using this! It just seems like a great way to start using my PS2 again after so long! Also I read the fine print can I have a heart?
Cool and helpful video. But I have a question. Can you update opl on any fmcb memory card you get on the internet? Ive heard from another youtuber that some fmcb cards cant be updated and you need another one to update opl.
I just found a SEALED silver ps2 with a good remote with rumble and everything. So i definitely need this. My friend gavs me some cds but they all keep freezing after booting up or dont load at all. They are all scratched. I was hoping someone would make a video on a modern ps2 hacking. Thanks man.
Does this work on JPN slim? Just as long as it’s not the 9000 model? What about games over 4 GBs? I know the limitation of exFat is the 4GB limit, and had to use a program that fragments some files in games for the PS3. Or is that not a concern because all files in the iso is small. Also do you have any recommended PS2 AV adapter? I have a Kaico one (silver one) and it’s just feels off where it stretches to 16:9 and my family TV does not have an option for 4:3 aspect ratio.
It should work on a Japanese slim. It doeswork on a 9000 model, you just need a FreeMCBoot card with FunTuna installed for those. Most that you get online are not, so you'd need to make one yourself or have it commissioned. The 4 GB file limit applies to the Fat32 file format, not ExFat. You may be able to adjust cropping in your tv settings
@@MCDNetwork thanks! I did saw the tuna fmcb but I just didn’t feel like installing it since I already have a non tuna one, but I’ll keep that in mind if I ever get shipped a 9000 model I always forget the difference between exFat and Fat32. I was thinking of getting a video card like retrotink but they’re pretty steep so I was hoping a cheaper alternative.
Hello. I am new to Homebrewing. Where do game save files go? Are they automatically saved with the MX and SD? Forgive me if this question is ignorant. Thanks in advance
@MCDNetwork do you have a reccomend plugin? I am most likely going to do this setup for my slim when I find it. So both my card slots will be taken. I appreciate your reply man!
@MCDNetwork Dude. Good lookin' out. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. I have a bit of experience with Emulators, so I have some faith. Thanks again man. Keep up the content, I'm here for it
Got everything working with the MX4SIO, games run great but noticed that FMV cutscenes are super choppy, for example the starting video on Kingdom Hearts, even the first cutscene on Going Commando. Is there no work around for this or is there settings that need to be tweaked?
Unfortunately there isn't a fix at this moment. It may be tweaked in a future opl update. Your best bet is to run those titles from an internal HDD if you have a fat PS2
try running a smb server it gives slightly faster speeds then the disc drive i havent seen any fmv issues yet you just have to store the games on your pc and then connect a ethernet cable to your router from both systems and do a slight bit of messing around in some settings menus on windows and opl i highly recommend it .
It cant play a few games. For example it cant play any of the jak and daxter games And some minor ones like Shrek's carnival party Donald quack attack But overall pretty good and compatibility will get better with updates
It could be an issue with your mx4sio card or the SD card your using. You could also check their game compatibility list to see if it's an issue with the title your playing
My ps2 is from the old days but when I turn it on it says Sumo light, i think i did change the laser lens before maybe it is from it idk. Does that affect the process? And if I want to save the game can i just remove the free mcboot memory card and use normal memory card? Thank you so much and I dropped a like and a subscribe 😉.
Thank you 😁 The "Sumo light" text is from a region free mod chip installed in your PS2. It shouldn't have any effect on the process for the MX4SIO. You also should be able to pull out the FreeMCBoot card when you go to save the game, I would just replace it after your done.
Thanks for the tutorial and all but you do realise aliexpress now have freemcboot SPECIFICALLY designed for the slim ps2s? all i needed from this tutorial is where to copy the game i have (tekken5) and that was that, i didn't need to download stuff, or update this OPL program, i couldn't anyways because the step that says "copy to APP" folder and then delete the original OPL was pointless as I don't have the "app folder".
If you're using a standard freeMCBoot memory card from one of those sites it most likey doesn't have the correct version of OPL that works with the MX4SIO. Hence why I go over how to update it in the tutorial. if your card is all good to go then just add your games to the MX4SIO's sd card as shown in the video 😀
Yup, I had a sandisk microsd card that I used on my phone and it randomly died after copying some files to it one day. I only had it for like 2 years. I've since swapped to a Samsung microsd card and it's been fine so far.
Ps2 fat owner from back in the day why are there so many dumb steps to download a game i had hdloader and have used a mod chip why can't i just load games straight to hard drive
Yes they're separate cards. As for saving, you could use a virtual memory card to save your games to the MX4SIO. Then for the few games that don't support saving to a vmc, save them on the FreeMCBoot card. Alternatively you could swap the FreeMCBoot card out for another when you go to save your game.
Why is EVERYONE on RUclips acting like this is something new ???? I've had this since 2018 when some Spanish or Brazilian guys released it along with the Guide on how to make your Own wich is when i made 2 of with old Memory Cards and a Soldering Iron. It's like you Americans only now found out about this when you could've just used Google Translate back in 2018😂
Thanks! Definitely will be using this! It just seems like a great way to start using my PS2 again after so long!

Cool and helpful video. But I have a question. Can you update opl on any fmcb memory card you get on the internet? Ive heard from another youtuber that some fmcb cards cant be updated and you need another one to update opl.
As long as the FreeMCBoot card comes with a copy of ulaunchelf so you can edit the files, you should be able to update it.
Wait… that’s my couch!!!! 💙

That's an amazing find, it's unfortunate about the condition of the games you got though. Glad the tutorial could help you out 😁

You'd need to install a plugin to the mx4 card in order for it to hold save games. Without it you can save to a standard memory card
@MCDNetwork do you have a reccomend plugin? I am most likely going to do this setup for my slim when I find it. So both my card slots will be taken. I appreciate your reply man!
@ttano1117 you'd have to update opl to the BDM4 version, from there you can create a virtual memory card for saves

Thnx, that works when you take iso file on dvd, but when download game on cd with bin file and put on cd folder they dont recognizes.
Help 😢
can you do little tutorial 😊 movie
Every game download is .7z file, and extract is .bin
Please help if you can 😢
Will a micro sd with a sd adapter work, of does it have to be a dedicated sd card?
That can work
how are you suppose to save games to a memory card if your using the freemcboot in one slot and the m4xsio in another
You can make a virtual memory card on the MX4 or swap out the freeMCBoot card when you go to save
You can take your free McBoot memory card out of the PS2 when the game is loaded. Put in a new memory card and boom you're done
It cant play a few games.
For example it cant play any of the jak and daxter games
And some minor ones like
Shrek's carnival party
Donald quack attack
But overall pretty good and compatibility will get better with updates
not being able to play jak games is criminal
@@Kmarksmanyou can still use a usb stick for them lol
i used this setup before but i always experience freezing after a while into the game. I used the most updated version too. any pointers?
It could be an issue with your mx4sio card or the SD card your using. You could also check their game compatibility list to see if it's an issue with the title your playing
@@MCDNetwork gotcha what micro sd card are you using? The brand name and size

heeeelppppp it stuck in Saving config screen after editing open ps2 loader and took long time, what should i do?
How do you convert CD bin/cue files to iso?
You can use this www.softwareok.com/?seite=Freeware/WinBin2Iso
How can I make the PS2 read the flash drive? It has everything it needs inside and I've formatted it to FAT32
Make sure it's an MBR partition table, not GPT

I believe so, you may need to add a PS1 emulator and run the games through that. However I could be wrong
I already have one few weeks ago with Ali express
Not the only reason to avoid Sandisk, even if they were compatible they are known to have the memory die randomly.
It's really strange that their cards are the primary ones to have compatiblity issues with these adapters
Yup, I had a sandisk microsd card that I used on my phone and it randomly died after copying some files to it one day. I only had it for like 2 years. I've since swapped to a Samsung microsd card and it's been fine so far.
Where do you go to download ps2 games online .
look up r/roms they have a megathread with safe links to every game pinned on the subreddit i highly recommend that
black screen right after opening opl v1.1/1.2 on fat 39004
Which version of fmcb is compatible with mx4sio?
Any version, you just need the beta files for opl linked in the description in order to recognize the MX4SIO
@@MCDNetwork so I need to correct opl version right? OK cool
When I open opl I just get a black screen
Is this working in CHD files?
Ps2 fat owner from back in the day why are there so many dumb steps to download a game i had hdloader and have used a mod chip why can't i just load games straight to hard drive
You can using FreeMCBoot and had loader, we have a tutorial for setting up FreeMCBoot on the channel 😁
Sub for only ps2 videks
This thing plays a LOT of ps2 games, but not all are compatible. Hate click bait shit on here.
