I have made same machine. But I can not manage to keep equal density of twisting along the rope lenght. It come out to tight near the machine and too weak near the rear hook. What am I doing wrong?
try stroking the twisted ropes to distribute the twist evenly and adjust the weight holding the single hook, also watch so you dont overtwist the strands before you start moving the wooden placeholder

This is an antique machine and very hard to find. I will be making some copies of it when I get the time for it during next winter.
