Thanks a lot for the shoutout broski. I think the issue with Diet Prada is that they are being lauded as respectable fashion journalists when they don't follow the traditional rules of journalism (waiting for all the facts to come out before forming an opinion, making sure all sources are credible etc.) I think if we collectively realise what Diet Prada is which is just people posting their personal opinions then we can better understand their biases that can sometimes be very uncalled for. In journalism there is literally a code of ethics which Diet Prada doesn’t even remotely follow.
@@scoobaydu8125 for real, point me in the direction of these "real journalists" in the industry, cause I'm not seeing them. I'm seeing pros who just print the corporate provides PR and hidden ads and social media influencers who post speculation and unsubstantiated rumors. I'm not seeing ANYONE actually do the work to dig in and find truth. (journalism is dead, clicks reign supreme)
Diet Prada used to be one of my favorite fashion instagram accounts. There was no bias (accept when it came to Prada itself), they just showed obvious rip offs in fashion and it was interesting to see the difference between copying and taking influence. Now they are fucking horrendous for reasons you mentioned and more
To be fair they still do post those rip off “cancel” things (see the recent Balenciaga/independent artist post) but with the political stuff the recent bad is starting to outweigh the recent good
Women are 50% of the population, 85% of fashion majors, the main demographic for fashion houses (expected to wear a different gown to every event, while men wear the same boring suits), but only 14% of the top fashion houses are run by women. I'd say there is a massive disparity.
But big fashion houses don’t gift those positions blindly to men, they mostly choose a designer who already had major success at his own brand Demna is at Balenciaga because of Vetements Virgil at LV because of Off White, etc
Can you think of any field where men dominate in numbers but all the women have accumulated at the top? One of the top strategy management firms, Price Waterhouse Coopers, tracked and reported on the disparity and found that female led apparel companies in the top 1000 were nearly twice as profitable. They also found that men were significantly more likely to receive promotions without asking. 18% men vs 5% women. Women having more challenging work life balance and men being more quickly entrusted with power positions probably has a greater effect than blind gifting of roles.
@@akram9744 you arent totally right, Virgil was never hired because of OffWhite, there isnt an article talking about his clothes, they werent interesting or new in any ways, Virgil was hired cause he was black, lets not get it twisted, he had already a following and was connected to huge celebs like Kanye, its was perfect for LV and a great PR move, the fashion press only always talked about his skin color...

For a while I followed Diet Prada almost religiously, but when I started to do some of my own research I found that they only talked about very surface level problems in fashion, and when I asked them to talk about more important deeper issues they ignored and blocked me. My trust and respect for them immediately crumbled after that.
it's politics disguised as fashion and comedy. It's not funny, it's not cool, it's not stylish, it's just politics, and we should all leave them in the dust.
I think calling an ad racist bc it doesn't feature black persons is actually bad for the movement, bc it takes away the actually meaning of the word racism. Also forcing brands to use people of color in every ad makes it seem like the model was picked bc of his skincolor and not as a result of his modeling skills, which is in my opinion very disrespectful to everyone involved
That's why all diversity politics are total bs. If you force people to do that it becoming tokenism. Also the problem with people who force that is that they often don't realize that often brands don't create ads just for USA but also for Europe and let me tell you: There are not that much black people here as in USA, damn in some countries there are close to none.
I hate it cause you'll see the ONE black person like inserted in and I just feel soooo bad for them like they said "oh we need a colored one" it's disgusting and they always get the same type, same with Latinas or any race they have to fit the narrative and can't deviate and there cant be "too many" cause that wouldn't be relatable apparently. These models also get treated like trash, not equals in terms of pay/respect. Add to the fact its acceptable to pay models in clothes (or months LATE) i dont need black/brown women being exposed to that abuse. Support B.O.B., not coorporations pandering with their one black model.
@@noodlessurprise reading an interview where they felt really comfortable and the interviewer was making them feel really cool , was so enlightening to how terrible and detached they are . Wish I could find it it’s been wiped from the web I read it in a physical magazine
The ancient Greeks, similar to the later Romans, were pretty diverse. The word "white" didn't really mean anything back then (or now, if you know you know), but there was a range of ethnicities native to Greece supplemented by immigrants from all over the Mediterranean, primarily their close trade partners in the Middle East and Northeast Africa. The vast majority of native Greeks were mid-toned, with the paler peoples contemporary racists would consider "white" living more north among the tribal peoples of northern Europe. The Greeks and Romans did have a problematic proto-colorist streak in that they believed fair skin was more beautiful and attributed those tones to their goddesses, but the majority of the common people of the time tended to be darker than their modern day counterparts even if they were racially similar. That said, it's important to remember race and skin tone have a complicated and more tenuous relationship than people typically believe. Most peoples' skin tones back then were more likely to be reflective of where they lived rather than who their ancestors were, with many Grecians being no darker than the Egyptians (who were "black" by our current definition of the word). TL,DR; Skin color and ethnicity are not the same, the Greeks were a racially diverse series of city-states with a healthy population of non-Grecian traders and settlers from around the Mediterranean, the modern conception of "black" and "white" don't cleanly map on the Greeks and Romans because they only exist to inflame racial tensions and don't have a coherent scientific meaning, and Dior's film was unambiguously colorist though that doesn't make Diet Prada any less cringe.
Tabi boots lol. Margiela ripped it off Gaultier (where he worked at) who in turn was inspired by actual Tabi shoes by the Japanese. This is the cycle of fashion
The Problem is that even if there is not the smallest bit of truth behind the Gosha Allegations. he has already fallen and willnot recover.wich pisses me off
Just fyi i think It's important to look at dior from kim jones and mgc's as separate visions. Mgc has a history of randomly sampling cultures for dior womens every resort collection as rich people do to other cultures, crediting them sometimes and sometimes not, which is why i don't see her as trustworthy or a successful modern ally. At the same time i feel like diet prada represents a toxic sassy fashion culture that isn't very healthy to aspire to in fashion as it already has a history of that. There has to be an easier way to weed out the drama in high fashion. Most of who they pick on are the same few designers the high fashion industry agrees are touchy subjects, so i agree with them but not the execution. "Being mean and gay isn't a personality trait" -Big Mouth

Also just because Mat is the head of Givenchy doesnt mean that he wont have a diverse team, whats virgil at lv if his whole team wouldve been white, they gotta looka at the whole picture
big agree, but I would be cautious on using diet Prada as a way of dismissing very real issues within the fashion industry. Great video, been wanting someone to give a critical eye to these egotistical blue checks.
I remember seeing the post they wrre trying to sell the account lol all downhill from there I read an interview about them in an indie magazine and it was the saddest cringiest interview I’d ever read . They seemed so detached from reality and expressed loving to argue with people when you have the upper hand
First off, "cancel culture" is some nonsense.Name one designer or brand that got "cancelled" because of Diet Prada. It's a buzz-y name for the media and somewhat alt-right contrarian types to use without really understanding it's more of a hyperbolic social media term than anything actually happening based on so-called SJW whims. Gosha Rubichinskiy doesn't count, because he continues to work and his fashion brand was always meant to be a temporary project, according to him from the very start. And at the time, in the wake of fashion creatives like Terry Richardson and Anand John being proved to be sexual abusers and, in the case of John, a verified now jailed rapist, the call out of Gosha was not out of line. You didn't mention the part where the young person he was chatting with told him his parents weren't there to okay sending photos and Gosha was basically, "Whatever, take off your shirt, go to the bathroom mirror and take a photo and send it to me." That's is HIGHLY suspect. But you and others are quite right that Diet Prada is very questionable and problematic. They often accuse designers of rip-offs when they actually just make references not direct plagiarism of designs. I think because Diet Prada needs content and rushes things out AND because their knowledge of Fashion is actually quite shallow. A problem, I will add, that young social media fashion critics ALSO have. *nudge nudge*
