You are a mad genius. I've been watching, and re-watching your videos for a while now and have learned so much. It's so refreshing to see your wild bright colors, and techniques. I'd love a video on less expensive alternatives. The glue crackle is smart. Love it all.
Folk art is my absolute favorite style! These are INCREDIBLE! I've seen these moulds used quite a few times since the release but none compare to this!!! It looks as if the pieces came carved! I'm in LOVE! thank you for yet another fantastic video. ❤
Yes, doing a video on how you got started mixing your own paints, etc would be great! I’m really starting to love the folk art designs. Thank you for showing its potential. Super pretty!!
Sharon, same here. Thanks to Lel, I've developed an interest in using folk art style design on some of my elderly furniture. I want to look into the folk arts of where my DNA came from and have fun with it on a little China cabinet. Don't you just love this channel?
Just got these molds and the stamp and I can’t wait. Those cabinets are absolutely gorgeous. I would not be able to part with them either. Your joy and love in your work and each other has made a really bad week better.. Thank you both.
These are adorable. Love the folk art! Awesome technique with beautiful outcome. You made this look absolutely doable. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us lel.
I was so excited to see the video on this. I was at the retreat last week in Maryland and the finished photo popped up in my feed. The IOD sisters where there and I showed Josi and she immediately showed Sally. They loved it! I also got to meet Aimee Robinson of Mama Bear Blue. It was such a great week. As always Lel, LOVE YOUR WORK! Thank you to Martyn for all his behind the scenes work, I know what that is like as I'm always the wing man, never the front man.
Never in a million years would I ever have considered creating a piece like this...traditional folk art...... UNTIL I WATCHED THIS VIDEO! OMGOSH! In my garage working on a piece and I couldn't stop "rewinding." I love these soooo much! There wouldn't be a place in my home for them, but I can imagine how thrilled someone else would be! Absolutely stunning! And looks like so much fun to create. Mark my words, I will be creating a folky piece! Masterful!
Wonderful job! Love how you enhance all the colors--clear wax, tone them down, antique/crackle, it just all comes together so well. Lots of good tricks!
These are fabulous and I’m not a huge folk art fan! They remind me of cabinets I saw in Germany. Your color sense is superb and the PVA crackle is so effective. I’d love to see a video on your DIY techniques. Thank you for more Made by Marley magic! 🥰
I really like these two primitive pcs of furniture. I’m fascinated by the plaster in the latex paint look. I just love that flat, chalky look. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I have an older friend ( I’m old so she’s really old! Lol). She has for the last 50 years filled her Log Home with antique traditional folk art. It’s almost like a museum, so much so she charges people $10 to come in and take a look. You could take these cabinets and put them in any room in her home and they would look absolutely perfect. I love them! You should sign all of the Furniture painted or repainted by you as really are an artist. Furniture is just your canvas.
It would be brilliant if you could show us how to make stencils, chalk paint, and pass on your experience in using cheaper art stuff or making it more original. It would be really interesting and particularly helpful for those of us who live miles from big cities with art shops! The Internet is only so good.
Sure thing it's how I started I didn't have all the fancy things that I now have and I was able to get them just by making beautiful pieces incredibly cheaply and selling them for GH oid money ....I have all the tips ha ha 😂
This is absolutely gorgeous! I just acquired the Primitive mould and this video has given me a lot of ideas as to how to use the mould. You inspire me to be courageous and try new methods. Thank you!
Wonderful job!! I love how these turned out😍😍😍😍😍 I didn’t think I would like the moulds when I first saw them, but seeing them used to create a beautiful design and paint it really changed my mind☺️ I definitely would like to learn how to make my own paint, so yes if you are open to teaching I’m up for learning…🙂
Lel & Martyn, they are so beautiful! I love the traditional folk art. It's becoming much more popular now and I've found myself trying to mimic it myself in my painting. So, I make my own 'chalk' paints much more often than I buy them! I love making my own colors and getting the texture and consistency just how I like it. I get the mistints at Lowe's or even color samples from Benjamin Moore. They come out beautiful (like you say) and yes! Super hard finishes. So instead of paying $37 for a quart of store bought chalk paint, I can make my own for
Those turned out so neat! I really love that more elegant- if I can say that- folk art look that looks old but well taken care of and loved. I can totally understand wanting to keep them, they are classics! ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes yes yes I love these! The legs are so stylish! And I cannot wait to use the Pennsylvania Folk stamp and this Folk Art mould. I think they are my favorite! These turned out really really pretty❤️❤️❤️
Aaaaaaa-mazing! So many great techniques to try in this video. I would love to learn more about doing different techniques without all the fancy new products. A person just cannot keep up with buying every new IOD mold, and stamp, and transfer. Not to mention all the new paints, and glazes, and stains, and waxes! It’s too expensive. And no one will buy such an expensive piece! So I am so grateful you understand and are so practical and willing to share your ideas. You and Martyn are my Sunday evening date and I’m never disappointed. Thank you!
I'm with you although I have a very extensive craft stash I remember when I did everything on the cheap it didn't in any way stop my furniture selling it just enabled me to get that stash. So many products when basic items work just as well and sometimes even better. So many others here in the comments have asked so I will do a video on doing furniture art with no money and no fancy products X ❤️
Tulips and Hares IOD are fabulous. I love what you have done. Reminds me of South American art... maybe that's what you are going for. Thank you for sharing. So inspirational.
Yes yes yes please do a video with points we should consider when just starting out. How to pick you crafting name..how to create a logo, and a brain dump on painting furniture we you are getting started. This might need to be a series 😊
Hey sandy I will do a video on how to do a piece on the cheap, everything else you mentioned will probably all be in our channel membership where Marty will tell you all the business stuff and I can discuss all the creative stuff X ❤️
@@MadebyMarley when is your channel membership launching? Also, I was born in Greenock Scotland! My father was stationed in the Holy Lock in the US Navy and was there 4 years.

I was so excited to see what you and Lexi would do with the new IOD folk and primitive IOD release products!! Love your channel! Thank you for all the inspiration!!!
So beautiful and the composition of the moulds placement is superb. It's really interesting to see how the moulds sit on a piece. I love Folk Art and recently purchased the IOD moulds and stamp set on release day; I was finding it hard to visualise them but your lovely video has helped. Thank you for showing us your process and how you mix the colours which I find quite baffling, mine seem to turn out muddy !
If you keep the cool colors together and do the warm tones together, never mixing the two you won't get brown. You get brown by mixing yellow, blue and red.
I haven't watched the video yet, but had just a quick look. Adorable! "Adorable" is probably not the most favorite word in your lexicon, but these are. Right out of a story book!! Will come back at the end.
Ok, I'm back. These side tables are the visual definition of the word "whimsical," which, in a lot of ways, is also a definition of you, though only one, because there are many different Lels. I can see these in a child's room along with your fairy piece, but I can also see them in the room of a soon to be 77 year old inside of whom is a half mad 4 year old with a fistful of crayons. Your rebellious generosity in giving us paint and crackle recipes to start with is one of the things that makes you so dear to my heart. I do worry a bit for your safety, though. You might want to think of hiring a security team. You should seriously consider starting your own paint line with colors such as, dirty whitey beigey brownie, and brownie, beigey, goldy. Your videos are filled with your quirky, delightful color descriptions that are so far removed from Sunset Pink in Tuscan Winter and the like. OK, last thing. Every Sunday you pick me up and swoop me away to another corner of your prodigious imagination, each one like a different country where I want to take up residence. In the world of artists, whether furniture or canvas, you are a singular stand out. You're self effacing; you laugh at yourself, and you don't paint with the goal of your work hanging in the Chicago Museum of Art. You paint for yourself.. Caravaggio drank a LOT of wine while he painted, and probably laughed until he passed out. Monet surrounded himself in peace when he was painting. Van Gogh saw things as no one else ever did and probably thought anyone who didn't see what he saw was in some way disabled. It would have helped though, if he'd been recognized even a little. Matisse was just pure joy with a brush in his hand. You have many of their qualities all rolled into one which is what attracts so many of us here, and who wish every day was Sunday. You also have the dependable, heroic Martyn who knows how to fix anything and everything, can spot the place where you forgot to put a mold, is brilliant with his camera and indefatigable in searching for the perfect music You guys are the best. I love that the words latex and glue made their appearance here.
The IOD ladies should be honored by the beautiful pieces you create with their products. I love folk art, love these molds and how could I not LOVE these small tables you designed. Adding those stamps added just enough to the finished product. I did notice that despite you always having your hands covered with paint and wax, you do bother to manicure your nails.... I never bother other than a good scrubbing. I have a sincere question for you >> Which furniture artists do you enjoy following? I hunt around looking for someone who does really creative work, and although there are many talented painters, I have rarely come up with ARTISTS who paint furniture. So, who do you look to for inspiration? Thank you for another great weekend delight, always such a pleasure! Hugs & Love, Sydni
So glad I watched this, I just got the mould and folk stamp. Will be using resin for these lovelies as I make a Scandinavian Welcome sign for my Swedish girlfriends covered porch. Love everything you make, you’re so talented. Maybe with my Scottish ancestry I can create a bit of your magic.
I’ve been hanging out for you to use these moulds and they look fantastic. I love the colours. I love how you say it’s so tactile. I think that’s why I love the moulds so much. It’s just so hands on and get in and get dirty! I have low vision and I just love the moulds coz I can get so much detail from them! I love the techni ur of layering the colours on the moulds. And the dark wax is great! Thanks again for another fun video you guys! 😀
Also I love the folk art design and adore the colors. I'm from the South.. GA 🇺🇸 .. Farmhouse is very common design in my area and I think Folk Art would be an excellent addition to that style and give some pops of color.
I love, love, love these. When you did the Lana piece I was just getting ready to do a small dresser for my granddaughters bedroom. You so inspired me that I used all of your techniques. I would share a picture of it but I can't see how to do that on thIs platform . I can't wait to copycat these tables as well. I love to hear you and your husband laughing together.
Hi ya guys . Hope your both well 🤗 That turned out Absolutely Awesome It just looks like a tapestry ❤❤ It I just ❤ watching you create your magic and a laugh along the way 😂Take care guys till nxt time x
Yes big standard white glue Linda and you know what it never fails you always get crackles sometimes really big fabulous ones .....plenty of crack to stick lots of wax .....ha ha ha 😂
You've done it again. Every week you seem to outdo yourself. ❤ 1000% yes please to more of how you started and diy hacks. These little cuties turned into beautiful little fairy princesses. That final reveal left me smiling and toe tapping. Was the rug you staged them with an inspiration for the colors, or was it kismit that the colors matched so perfectly?
OMG..ANOTHER STUNNER!❤ you are amzing Lel.. Have you thought of creating decoupage paper of a magnificent Heilan Coo heid,a ginger one with attitude ..like the Sour Puss A2 tissue paper , that is awesome, (and i cannotwait to receive it all the way from USA) ..every one loves a Highland cow, specially the ones with attitude 😁 or even a stencil..im soo happy i discovered your channel with the help of the Universe..❤ hugs from London
Ps ! ❤to watch you making your own paint , I also make my own chalk paint now and then when I want a specific colour plus it’s much cheaper than bought paint
They look great!! I would keep them. They look good on the rug, or is that an oil cloth you stenciled??? I think you need to brush up on your birds and bee's. I mean flower's, lol 😂 Always a delight watching you two. Have a pleasant afternoon.
Look up iron orchid designs website and go to the stockists page and find one near you, have a look at the stockists website and look for the primitive mould x
Pennsylvania Folk Art is usually primary colors in a darker shades. The colors are very bright and vibrant with no shading or lighter colors used. It's really quite boring, I live in Pennsylvania and see this art everywhere, everyday, so needless to say, saying different colors is soooo nice. Very pretty.
Every video I learn something. I was doing my dishes when you got to the crackle and I was like what kind of voodoo magic is this? Diy crackle? Yes please.. I'm fooling around with a recipe holder thing that looks like a cutting board and couldn't decide what to do.. now I got to give it a go.. so white school glue is what is in your big jug?
I would love a video on how to make my own paint. Here in Europe, it’s just too expensive to buy/order the name brand paints ( diy clay or Annie Sloan, etc). What is the ratio of plaster to paint? Why latex and not acrylic? Soooo many questions! Thanks. ☺️
Latex comes in large tins acrylic can be used to tint it but you would need a huge amount to do a piece of furniture. So you need some old wall paint and add about 3 or 4 table spoons of plaster of Paris to a jam jar add water till it's the consistency of thick milk. Then pour it into your paint and keep on stirring. Then if you want to add more colour add some acrylic to tint it. If it's in a jar with a very tight lid it keeos for a few weeks.... Good luck x

It’s just so hands on and get in and get dirty! I have low vision and I just love the moulds coz I can get so much detail from them! I love the techni ur of layering the colours on the moulds. And the dark wax is great! Thanks again for another fun video you guys! 😀
I love moulds and I love moulding it's as we both agree very therapeutic X ❤️
Also I love the folk art design and adore the colors. I'm from the South.. GA 🇺🇸 .. Farmhouse is very common design in my area and I think Folk Art would be an excellent addition to that style and give some pops of color.
I like farmhouse and I love seeing it, for me it's so clean and fresh.
Maybe one day I will do a farmhouse piece X
@@MadebyMarley that might be a challenge for your boho heart
I love, love, love these. When you did the Lana piece I was just getting ready to do a small dresser for my granddaughters bedroom. You so inspired me that I used all of your techniques. I would share a picture of it but I can't see how to do that on thIs platform . I can't wait to copycat these tables as well.
I love to hear you and your husband laughing together.

I'm so glad you liked it ☺️ and the rug I borrowed from my bathroom ha ha 🤣
Folk art! 😍 I love it so much!!! ❤
Yay, thank you!

They look great!! I would keep them. They look good on the rug, or is that an oil cloth you stenciled??? I think you need to brush up on your birds and bee's. I mean flower's, lol 😂 Always a delight watching you two. Have a pleasant afternoon.
Cindy ha ha it's my bathroom rug it worked so well X ❤️
Hi ...still havent been able to find the moulds ...its such a lovely finish to the piece . I'd love to try it myself ❤😊
Thanks so very much ❤️
Okay, so the glue... just regular white glue? And sealed up with wax? So good friend, amazing.
Kim yeah just white glue we call it PVA here in the UK ...but yep 👍 go for it
Wow love them.
Thanks Melanie x x
Every video I learn something. I was doing my dishes when you got to the crackle and I was like what kind of voodoo magic is this? Diy crackle? Yes please.. I'm fooling around with a recipe holder thing that looks like a cutting board and couldn't decide what to do.. now I got to give it a go.. so white school glue is what is in your big jug?
Yes it's just a big jig of white school glue ....go for it X ❤️
Good luck x
🥰Q: your clay doesn’t shrink up. Is it bc of the DAS clay , or the heavy glue used, both? Thank you
Pack them tightly I really think Dad out of all the clays shrinks and cracks less but it's only my opinion ha ha 😂
