      My eyes got big and my mouth hung open for files to come and go when I saw that. I have 1,000 albums and NONE of them have ever see a finger print and were cleaned of dust before and during playing. They are all like new.

    I was fortunate to be given the Mary Poppins vinyl soundtrack in a box of records given to me, and was pleased to hear bits of music on there that, ironically, still have never been added to the special edition soundtrack CDs that have been released. My daughter, when she was a toddler, almost damaged it, by running the stylus back and forth over the record. Fortunately, it was only the stylus that had to be replaced. At first, the damage did show, but only a mild skip, during a moment when the music paused for a remark in the song, I Love to Laugh. Thankfully, whatever happened got smoothed out, and now it doesn't skip anymore. I don't know how that worked, but I am very happy about it.

I recently added the special editions of Logan's Run, The Dark Crystal, Alien, and The Thing to my vinyl collection. Still have the original releases of Close Encounters of the Third Kind and The Empire Strikes Back.

    Vinyl doesn't undergo digital degradation. You keep it in the right conditions, a vinyl record will last thousands of years. Our video discs unfortunately won't do that. Also, you need to put some fuckin' outer sleeves on those jackets, man. They're not expensive, they're like 0.20/each.

    Some really cool album you have there! My favorite piece in my collection is A Night at the Opera by Queen (my favorite album of all time) pressed on a gorgeous purple/pink galaxy effect vinyl. Two of the luckiest record finds I've had so far: I found a nice copy of Led Zeppelin II at a thrift store in a bin of random 50 cent records, and the other one was at another thrift store where I found Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd and A Kind of Magic by Queen for $1 each (Queen is by *far* my favorite band, I really like them lol)!

      Oh, and I have seen Queen live twice (with Adam Lambert, though obviously I would have rather seen them with Freddie, but he died when I was a baby and I think Adam is still awesome and I am glad that it gave me the chance to see them) and they were AMAZING! I also saw The Rolling Stones with my Dad which was also fantastic!

    If you’re not into the sound much, you should probably upgrade your turntable. Once you hear a decent hi-fi setup, it’s hard to go back to anything else. It’ll be worth every penny and will rock your world!! You’ll love your records even more, and develop a stronger passion for collecting.

    Dude you need get a great copy of Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys. It is the album that pushed The Beatles to make Sgt. Pepper. I would hope you track down a good vinyl of the original mono mix (the only way you could hear the album in 1966) as well as the recent stereo mixes. I don't it on vinyl myself but I imagine it must sound amazing. Also check out The Smile Sessions, the aborted follow up.

    I’ve got both versions of the bladerunner soundtrack on vinyl. Originally they couldn’t get vangilis to sign off on releasing it so they had to get an orchestra to play the entire soundtrack and they released that. Then years later they released to soundtrack as it was in the movie for a record store day release I believe.

    Hi Jeff,
    Have almost all of those LP’s, first editions of course, I’m from the baby boomer/Woodstock generation and have been enjoying my vinyl discs yet again.
    Had my TT professionally serviced after 40+ years stored away. Sounds so good today with all this digital sound, bought some Jimi Hendrix albums, a 1979 reissue, Axis Bold As Love, another one in mono and a posthumously released Valleys of Neptune.
    Alison Krause w/Robert Plant a dbl disc set, so yes vinyl is very much alive and well, hell, I’ve been buying type IV metal cassettes as I’m an analog guy in a digital world.
    So if you like big album covers for the art work, I’m surprised you’re not collecting Laser Discs.
    I bought 170 of them in 1996/7 for $1. each when a video store was selling them off as DVD’s we’re going to be the new it thing.
    I used to rent them from Laserland as buying them was too expensive.

    • @Theomite
      @Theomite 4 года назад

      Laserdisc is it's own rabbit hole in a series of rabbit holes. He has to choose his paths carefully. BTW, did you keep those OPs or did you sell them off in the early '00s like most people did?

    • @gabrielspiropol9418
      @gabrielspiropol9418 4 года назад

      @Theomite, thankfully NO! lol
      I’m a collector, sort of, well these days I’m a music aficionado, a movie fan certainly, but I had this habit of keeping things I bought and took excellent care of my possessions through my decades top side living life. It wasn’t always easy or perfect but today I’m glad I had the perseverance and foresight to not sell everything I owned when times were difficult.
      I certainly appreciate the sonics today with a TOTL sound system and having a 4K ULTRA HDR capable TV to enjoy the video too, I have seen and heard all the changes in our A/V technology to better enjoy now what I couldn’t back in the 60’s-70’s. I knew one day I would reach a point in my life where I would settle down with a good woman and we would build a nice and comfortable home-life and enjoy the fruits of our labors.
      Timing and tech came together and as LPs were unpacked and played I was rewarded with wonderful sounding memories.
      One thing led to another and cassettes were another source of rediscovered pleasure, but being away from audio and video so long I was surprised that high quality decks were rare and scarce. My Sony deck was MIA, but I found a pristine, recently serviced one on Tapeheads.net and made a purchase from a tech there. It was the model above mine and got it pronto. Laser Discs were next and then many boxes of Hi-Fi VHS tapes were put into the media storage cabinets, I did a lot of time shift recordings of TV shows when I was working non stop. I found that those tapes are also rare and make for super audio recordings of music!
      Today I binge watch older sci-fi shows from the 90’s. This CV plandemic has given me the time to catch up on old favorites and still buy a new 4K release on occasion, JAWS 45th anniversary limited edition was recently released, I preordered the steel book and we just watched it this past Sunday. It was better than I remember! Top Gun is another preorder but Dec 21 is when that’s released, also as a steelbook.
      Criterion preorders are due July, a 6 movie set of Bruce Lee’s greatest hits and War of the Worlds both B-R. I have an oldies but goodies bent and seeing them restored and remastered is a treat.
      Hey, you only go around once in life, make it count! 😁🍿

      It's kind of surprising a collector not knowing how to handle their own collection. Well, not really. Many don't know what they're doing, and what they're talking about. I remember that one RUclipsr, Cereal at Midnight, claimed he used tap water to clean his records, but he wouldn't do that with an expensive LP... HOWEVER, if you allow a tap-water-cleaned pressing on your turntable, it'll likely muck up the stylus, thus degrading the other LPs in their collection. I didn't bother telling him, because he got snarky with me. Best to leave these collector's to their own devices. I mean, if they ever sell them the next person to own them will be getting a possibly bad album, but... You can teach 'em all...
