    thanks for compare experiment
    it's good for dist.
    if FD3N for bridge and BH2 for neck maybe is a perfect combination (have a low and high, it's balance lol)

    If it was me I would stick the dingwall pickup in the middle position sandwiched between the two bartolini pickups like Dingwall models with three pickups. That way you keep all the bartolini low end and can roll in more Dingwall cut/punch

      Totally fair! I think when i made this video the dingwall pickups werent wired correctly. Ive since upgraded the preamp and rewired it all and the dingwall pickups have plentyyy of lowend :)

    Hi I have the same bass and was thinking of doing the same replacement.
    Was it a direct replacement? Any wood working you had to do to fit the DW pickups?
    Did you leave the stock Ibanez preamp or did you replace it with some Dingwall preamp of some sorts?
    Also, have you tried wiring the pickups in series instead of parallel? I know that our god and savior Nolly does this a lot.

    • @elireardon
      @elireardon  Год назад +2

      No wood work was required! It was super easy.
      I used the stock ibanez preamp, but am thinking of replacing it later down the track.
      And they are wired in series! Not parallel 😊

    There must be wiring issues with the dingwall pups. I believe you can get much better tone than that

    Dingwalls sound great, are these the 5 string or 6 string ones? As I know people put 6 string sized pups in these sometimes to fill the whole cavity. Looking to do this to my EHB SMS!

    For anyone not able to buy new pickups (or not willing to, one simply doesn't pay 1300$/€ for DEAD pickups -not even half that, which I paid for mine-), the BH2s come wired in series, BUT they can sound like a damm normal pickup when you wire them SINGLE COIL. Not parallel, as scoopDEAD as series, just zingier (while still no mids/hi-mids to be heard). Correct color code is in this guy's video... ruclips.net/video/QZeHJvZzFEE/видео.html
    Also the VariMid onboard treats the single coils signal WAY better (no compression/distortion going on, which I was getting, when boosting bass/mids too much with the stock series wiring). Choose whichever coils you prefer for tone. I used the neckside coils of both pickups, which don't even hum cancel with each other when both are on, still have the same (negligible) hum level I had with them in series. This is my EHB1005MS's neck pickup in single coil. I might get better pickups down the road, but this way at least it can sound not far from your average Jazz Bass, I mean, USABLE... ruclips.net/video/fU6zdMXmAzY/видео.html

      If you've played with them BH2s are dark like a blanket over the speaker compared to even the acoustic sound of the bass they are in (also most passive pickups are fairly similar in the low-end, the character that differentiates them is almost all in the mids and highs which our ears are much more sensitive to), so its more like all the missing high-mids and treble become apparent with the Dingwall pickups (though neodymium magnet pickups tend towards a more aggressive high-midrange than most traditional alnico or ceramic pickups as they require less wire on the bobbin to attain equal output). It generally sounds more natural to cut frequencies with active EQ than to boost, so the Dingwalls give you a wider frequency pallet to sculpt out a natural sound with in my opinion (listen to what a player like Lee Sklar can do with his Dingwalls, which can sound fat and warm- of course the longer scale of those basses changes the foundation of the tone as well). Cool mod, though i think I prefer the Nordstrand pickups in the EHB1500 basses as they are a bit tamer than the Dingwalls while being much more aggressive and clear than the Bartolinis
