- Update September 2014 to all the comments about destroying the bike or that we don't know what we are doing or that it looses power; We really don't care about any of that. We bought it with money we earned and we'll destroy it as we like. Just enjoy the video.
We removed the baffles from a 2005 Honda Shadow stock exhast using the 2 1/8' hole saw modification.

No rejetting required. However, we're going to replace the exhaust.This mod is only temprorary. Nothing beats and actual aftermarket exhaust sound, you know.

I agree. I don't hear any motorcycle until they are right next to me on the hiway. You won't hear an loud exhaust on any bike on the road until they are right on top of you. As for people saying loud pipes save lives, they are highly misinformed.
I like the sound better before, it was much deeper. Taking the baffles out made the sound higher pitched.

i think that is the camera's cheap microphone compensating for the increased noise coming into it. i doubt there was any loss in deep sound

which pipes did you put on? what else did you do besides switch them out?
I have a 2005 vt1100c spirit and just cut the buffles off, which set up do you recomend for rejeting, I really need it backfires on idle all the time
@lilrebal131 lets see, almost 10,000 miles later and its still running just fine. and all the valves are just fine too. Compression is still what it needs to be.. and I'm hurting my engine?
Cobras or Vance & Hines is the way to go if you can afford it. I like the look of the Cobra pipes on my 1100 Spirit because they are not tapered like the factory pipes. The Cobras have baffles but are low resistance so the bike is quiet when cruising in the neighborhood (20 to 30 mph) and loud when you roll on.

I'd just mod the baffles while they are out, put em back in and drill and tap some holes to hold them in place, it'll sound sweet and still have some back pressure.
who cares about back pressure? its a 40hp motor. You'll lose what 1 ft-lb off idle? who cares

it sounds even louder than the aftermarket exhaust (at least in the video)

What displacement?
one would think a pilot & main jet increase would be required to keep from getting lean at high rpm's.my experience is they are jetted so lean from the factory that a decrease of backpressure often makes them run worse.(lean burn,not good).

What about those warnings stamped on the mufflers to not modify the exhaust system. Do they think they are not going to risk being pulled over for a resultant noisy exhaust and besides i am a motorcyclist who knows what goes with a noisy exhaust even if I was on a literal ride of pig headed bliss with a V twin that can snort many times louder than a pig!

after you take out the Stock Baffels you can buy after market baffels and cut them down to modify the sound and the back pressure..still LOUD and FAST..I got stopped and the cops stuck a stick in the pipes and to their horror, there were the Baffels..TaDa..and down the road I go..if it pops...REJET....

GOOD JOB...i DID THE SAME THING AND HAD A INCREASE OF 20 HORSEPOWER...10 FROM EA EXHAUST PIPE..I WAS GOING TOP SPEED ON MY 750 OF 121 MPH NOW I HAVE GONE OVER 125MPH ALONG SIDE A VTX 1800
There is NO way removing baffles is going to give you 20hp man… sorry to burst your bubble.

I did read it, and also read that the MAIN CAUSE of accidents are vehicles not yielding to the right of way of the motorcycle, due to not seeing or noticing the motorcycle. Read it, study it, and remember it...

Loud pipes can save lives... but the issue isn't the pipes. The fact of the matter is that most drivers just plain arent paying attention. Nobody is going to hear or see a bike if they are texting on their phone while blasting music from two twelve inch subs. That's just the way it is. I've had several people tell me they knew I was coming up behind them because of my pipes. But I'm also a realist, if it helps, it only does so much. People just don't pay attention...

So many people do this - or change the silencers/mufflers without re-jetting, and so many have a ruined engine afterwards.....

I'm not really into that "PAP PAP PAP PAP!" sound, but it's your bike, if you like it, good for you. But, that may very well shorten the life of the engine, so be sure to tell the buyer if you ever get tired of it and try to sell it LOL.

They actually put it in to reduce noise levels. Hence the name. Baffles.
actually you gain power if you open the exhaust and rejet the carbs to match.
its better if you just take em off all together like i did and run it on straight headers but then you have to re-jet, makes it loud as a hell lol.
but if you do the "hole-saw" mod you better off to drill out the welds and not drill it out. it takes less time, or at least it did for me.

^Gotcha. One thing you've got to remember too is a lot of these guys on youtube are fair weather only riders, who probably put less than 5000 miles on the bike a year...
my buddy did that to his bike,now it runs like crap,its slower,louder,exhuast pop's and the motor heats up more....no where is the advantage here?

Actually, most accidents are caused by the driver being unaware of the rider... not saying loud pipes DO save lives, but that IS the number one cause... not because the rider is breaking the law or riding reckless.

These comments are funny as hell I did this to my 02 spirit 750 and it's running fine some backfires but no more than before the baffles were removed plus I got the bike for $750 USD with 7.5k on the odo do this if you plan on rejeting in the next 6months to a year

I'd go to your local motorbike parts supplier.. they'll be able to inform you of your choices better than anyone here, as some parts may not be available in your local. I have a pair of Silvertail's [with baffles] on my VT 125C there more than loud enough.. I can imagine a 1100cc without baffles will be deafening to an absolutely ridiculous level.

That wasn't the point. The point was that you claim the hurt report claims that loud pipes don't do anything. I was making the the point that ANYTHING HELPS! The hurt report you seem to live eat and breathe by states that the VAST majority of these accidents are caused by vehicles not yielding to the right of way of motorcycles because the motorcycle isn't noticed. If loud pipes get me noticed, than sweet. I have loud pipes, but it's not to save my life.

Bike sounds like crap. Small displacement bikes do not sound good with loud pipes at all. Sounds like a lawn mower to me. I work on bikes all the time, and with the baffles removed, you are risking burned valves. And a leaner running engine. They were designed from the factory to have a certain amount of back pressure, and by modifying the mufflers, you screw up the entire system.

People thinking loud pipes save lives are full of it. Attentive driving, years of experience, and not showing off saves lives. Loud pipes are only annoying. Next time a bike with loud pipes is coming up on you take note as to where they are in relation to your car. By the time you can hear them they are close enough for you to hit them. If they are going away it is loud, but I am not worried about cars I have already passed, they see me. Loud pipes sound cool, but they DO NOT save lives.
